Bush twins denied seats at NYC restaurant

Status
Not open for further replies.
Are people really comparing two overprivileged twits being denied seating in a restaurant to denying seating to blacks based on skin color which has its roots in four hundred years of institutionalized oppression?

Can I own a business and deny blacks service but provide it for whites? Of course not.

I think the reasons for them being kicked out were made crystal clear, what with the whole "four years" thing.

This wasn't racial, don't even attempt to make that comparison.

It's the same TYPE of thing, though. Lordy you people don't know how to make comparisons. Of course it's not as severe as racial discrimination during segregation, but it's in the same vein.

They were denied because of something they had no control over.

brooklyngooner and skrew summed this up nicely. Olimario should stop being so dramatic. And how exactly is this discrimination? The restaurant had a personal reason not to let them in, it isnt like theyre not letting in any polititians daughters.

Barely out of college, I don't think anyone forced them to actively campaign for their father. It's a private business, if the guy doesn't want overtly political figures in there who might offend other customers, that's the deal.

You can't control your race, you can control your politics.

Are you telling us that the Bush twins couldn't have campaigned, fundraised, or voted for Kerry?

edit: erm, beaten by previous poster

He wouldn't have let them in regardless. The were denied because he was a liberal and they were daughters of a conservative president.

Can I deny all liberals from eating in my establishment becase I feel the majority of my customers will disagree with their views? Nope... I can't... Not unless I want a lawsuit filed against me.

The attempted justification of this is sick.

What about the possibility that the owners just didnt like the twins aswell. Like someone said earlier in the thread, they have been acting badly recently.

There are also plenty of clubs that would let them in on the basis of them being famous but not let me in because Im not. Is this 'discrimination' too?

Since when was this all conservatives? Also, you should note that there are many stores that have a "we reserve the right to refuse service".

More justification of this sick, freedom impeding act. Wonderful.
I don't know how you people support this.

Replace 'Bush Daughters' with 'Kerry Daughters' and 'NYC' with 'Nacogdoches, TX' and you'll have GAF in an uproar.

olimario said:
Then you're delusional. As much as I dislike people like Obama and Moore, I still would HATE to see their freedoms violated and them discriminated against.

Wow, equating Obama with Moore. I would really love to hear what it is you have against Obama, please.

You didn't even bother defending your arguments from our critiques.

Anyways, the Kerry daughters are better educated and don't have the drinking/smoking reputation that the Bush daughters do.

Not true, they could vocally oppose their father's policies and curry favor with New Yorkers, but they chose to blithely go about their business of being fabulous neo-con spawn.

Let 'em eat at Kenny Rogers Roasters.

Better yet, replace 'Bush Daughters' with 'Cheney's Daughter", replace 'NYC' with 'Nacogdoches, TX', and replace '4 years' to 'we dont serve queers'.

When you can't win an election and you are desperate and ignorant,
then things like this happen.

No, I didn't vote for Bush. Just the cold hard truth.

What happens when the democrats/liberals don't win the next election?
Going to do a Rodney King?

People just listen for a moment. Persons should not be denied because of their political leanings period. This much should be agreed upon. However the owner has the right of refusal to serve them.

That being said, I'm just glad since this is NYC, that they probably went to another restaurant and contributed to our economy.

:D

Funny you mention karma, considering this incident is a direct result of just that. *COUGH constitutional amendment *COUGH war on Iraq ;)

Karma? yeah, this has nothing to do with Karma. It has to do with people who are sore losers and still act like they are 13 years old.

The constitutional amendment never happened and the states turned it down for good reason anyway.

The person I quoted mentioned karma...which goes both ways. And regardless if the amendment passed or not, it's the intent that did the damage. Although I do agree that it was immature, regardless what Bush has done, or intended to do.

Uhhhh, it's totally legal to discriminate based on political affiliation. (and this is ignoring the fact that the owners haven't banned all Republicans)

All this hilarious whining from a group that made people sign motherfucking loyalty oaths just to get into a speech or political rally. Where was the whining about discrimination then?

Are the situations the same? Not exactly. Are the results the same? Yes. I'm not saying shop owners shouldn't have the right to serve certain patrons if they dont want to (this wasnt an even an owner but simply an employee, although that's beside the point) -- I just find it supremely amusing that Liberals scream out for equality and yet when there is a clear example of the descrimination they claim to loathe, they cheer for it. It's absolutely hilarious how hipocritical it is.

Liberals loath discrimination based on race, creed, religion, sexuality, gender, etc. Political affiliation is not really considered one of those inalienable freedoms...

"Clear example of discrimination" my ass.

First, there is a huge difference between discriminating against all members of a group, and denying service to a PARTICULAR person because you don't like them or fail to pass some standard. There is a difference between saying "You cannot dine here because you're black" and "You cannot dine here because you're not dressed appropriately," for instance. Conflating the two situations is simply piss-poor thinking.

Second, reacting to a particular situation has nothing to do with your general beliefs. It is perfectly reasonable to believe that service businesses ought not to discriminate against groups, AND to believe that this story about the Bush girls is pretty damn funny. There's no hypocrisy there.

Finally, I swear to fucking God if you make one more sweeping generalization about "Liberals" [sic with the capital L], I'm going to find some way to make your life more miserable than it probably already is. It's pretty clear that you have no clue about politics other than the talking points inflating your skull...so stop making blanket statements.

He probably assumes that we have already immigrated to countries with "Liberal" parties.

Dude, just because a few liberals on here may have done that, you go and label all liberals as being guilty of this? You have a very limited scope of reality.

And Olimario, you say "as much as I dislike people like Obama...". Do you have any actual reasons to dislike him, or do you just not like him because he's not on your "team"?

That's a pretty dumbass mentality I've seen spreading lately. People pick a side, either liberal or conservative, and then just blindly assume that anyone else on the other "team" is some maniacal devil hellbent on sending this country down the toilet. People who do this need to wisen up. I consider myself liberal, but I know without a doubt that there are tons of awesome conservatives who are smart and have a good plan for where this country should be headed. There are also dipshit liberals who don't know what the hell they are talking about.

The whole who's side are you on- liberal or conservative- is starting to piss me off.

Yuk yuk we sure got those Bush girls. That'll show those stupid, bible thumping, right wing, racist, neo-cons. One more shining example of how childish some of the democrats can be. I mean they're just the guy's daughters wtf. If some one treated Kerry's daughters this way I'd feel the same way.

Hey Jinx where was this condemnation when people are tossing generalizations in the other direction? Do you smell that...... it's the stench of your hypocrite ass!

So according to you, an acceptable standard for not dining at a restaurant is being the daughter of a certain person and that it's on par with being dressed inappropriately? So if you went into a restaurant and someone for instance didn't like the shape of your bulbous, bald head, would you be okay with them turning you away? I certainly hope so since this is apparently completely fine in your viewpoint.

And miserable? Hah, the Liberals are the ones who havent stopped crying into their soup for the past few weeks and will continue to for the next four years -- why would my life be miserable? I'm young, attractive, have a well-paying job lined up and am having a great time. Life honestly couldn't get much better for me. You on the other hand are a jaded 30-something who isnt getting any younger and certainly isnt getting any less bitter. If you want to talk about miserable, just look in the mirror dude.

If you're the government, you can deny blacks the same voting access that whites have and get away with it. See: Florida, 2000 and Ohio, 2004.

Also, the absolutely idiotic statement you made about the Kerry sisters being denied access to a restaurant in East Badass, Tejas needs to be addressed. I know you're struggling to comprehend this, so I'm going to go easy on you. The Kerry sisters could care less about Texas. I'm sure they would have no reason for ever going there. Texas is a wart on the ass of America, a big, unsightly wart that the rest of us must struggle to deal with and one day either accept or cut off(I'm advocating surgery, myself). NYC is the cultural and entertainment mecca of the US. You mouth breathing red staters want to bash progressive ideals, causes and thinking, but then still show up and enjoy all of the benefits that such thinking creates. Well guess what? No more. You don't get to. Or let me put it in words your Tejas educated mind will understand: Don't let the sun set on your back in NYC anymore, cracker.

Edit: PS, Meier is a douche.

jinx did look pretty miserable at the office, actually. I guess that happens when you have to go on business travel with a cold. He should stop doing useful work; maybe then he'd be able to stay out of the airport for a couple weeks. :)
