Mostly because of the edit. It was unprovoked, and what's more he openly admitted to buying them for the purpose of flipping. He's not giving "scalper pricing" -- he is a scalper, and one who feels he needs to justify himself, probably because he knows what he's doing is a dick move.
I don't recall a lot of people selling off those consoles at scalper prices, but I do admit I never really payed much attention to said console sales back then. Were they even in demand to the point where they were sold out and unable to be attained via retail?
Anyhow, the key factor here compared to other similar scalp listings is the fact that this user made it a point to blame people for not purchasing the item as it was made available without accounting for availability or finances. As someone mentioned... approaching your customer with contempt isn't exactly the best way of doing business let alone to a private community.

I am not trying to make a living here. My asking price takes into consideration the cost of my time, and what I feel is an acceptable amount to make off selling these items. I agree, but only to a point. As a regular user of this thread, I think it's at its best as a place where the community can give and get good deals in order to sell what we want to, purchase what we're looking for, and foster a greater sense of community at GAF. Not to backseat mod at all, just my two cents. So when it comes to the point where there are people looking for eBay-level prices without the haircut those fees come with, it feels a bit out of place in this thread. Generally prices are sub-eBay at their highest here and I think negotiating is generally welcome, too. So anything far outside that standard, especially from people who are infrequent participants of the thread, can cast a bit of a pall over the proceedings here.

And general tone and attitude goes a long way as well. It's fine to sell rare or generally unavailable items for a higher price here - that's part of being in a community where you're able to find items that would otherwise be inaccessible.
But how you go about it - there's very little reason to openly label yourself a scalper. That's not really GAF protocol, and it's expected that people receive suggestions about prices just as openly as they label items with high markups in the first place.
Either way - we need to be level-headed and allow people to conduct business. Just be rational, approachable, and willing to suggestions if others show where cheaper prices can be readily found. You don't have to change anything; just listen and dialogue with others, and this community can be a good place to be.
Lets keep this thread back on track please.
FWIW, I don't know that people are whining per se. At least, I can say that wasn't my intention. I think it's healthy that we discuss these things as they pop up. But I agree we should get back to the regularly scheduled programming.
