Call of Duty: Black Ops site live, game releases Nov 9th

As long as there's no God forsaken Commando perk included, it's already a huge win over MW2. I like MW2, but I absolutely hate that perk...

And yet people will still hate on Treyarch despite the inclusion of dedicted servers.
Treyarch hate stopped for the most part when people played MW2 and realized that hey, IW isn't infallible, Treyarch isn't that bad after all.

The Treyarch hate is still going strong for the majority
on GAF
I think.

The idea that IW > Treyarch is a joke.

WaW was a lot better than MW2. I love MW2 but it's not better than WaW.

Okay, hold on a second here. So the company that made Minority Report, Spider-Man 3, Call of Duty 3 and Quantom of Solace is superior to the same team that made MoH: Allied Assault, Call of Duty 1, 2 & 4?

Look, I understand the distaste for MW2 and as a result Inifinty Ward, but Jesus, you people are just flat-out lying to yourselves now. I'm not saying Treyarch is a bad developer (despite their less-than-stellar track record leading up to WaW), not in the slightest, but I have yet to see them make a single stand-out game. World at War was a very solid game, and the company's best to date, but it was still playing it safe, they took zero risks with World at War.

If you're going to consider Infinity Ward a shitty developer because MW2 didn't turn out to be as good as Call of Duty 4, because one of their games didn't meet the community's expectations, then by that math Treyarch would have to be considered about six times shittier than Infinity Ward. Fair is fair.

Petty bickering aside, I'm definitely excited for Black Ops, Treyarch appears to have been awarded a lot more freedom to do what they want this time around, which peaks my interest :D

I didn't mean that Treyarch is better, I think at this point they are equal.

Now all we need is some nuclear claymores!

Happy with the confirmation of the game coming to the Wii the same day as the other versions..
Treyarch has supported the Wii quite well, so I was a little disappointed when Black Ops wasn't mentioned for the Wii..at first.

Heck they even ported Modern Warfare to Wii and basically received no credit for it (when you start the game the only logos that appear are Infinity Ward and Activision..and I didn't saw the Treyarch logo on the box neither.

Spider Man 3/QOS and W@W all at the same time.

Pre MW2:

IW>Treyarch

After the constant shit they pulled with MW2 coupled with their arrogance:

Treyarch>IW

IW evolved into a bunch of tools and their PC support was laughable. IW is good no more especially with their talent moving onto other studios.

To me a developer's reputation depends on the present.

Am I the only one that enjoyed MW2's campaign? sure the story was complete shit and the dialog was some of the cheesiest in a while, but it was so over the top and cinematic that I found it really awesome.

Maybe it just me.

It really isn't the campaign getting the majority of the hate.

Nope, I felt the same way. I had to read the wiki to get the story, but I loved playing through pretty much every sequence.

CoD campaigns are one of my favorite guilty pleasures. The only one I didn't like was 3.

Those scans are mighty impressive, the 'ugly' of WaW looks to be gone. Gonna look shitty on Wii though :lol
Maybe not.
Obviously won't look like the 360/PS3 version, but Modern Warfare Reflex looked quite nice (and better than World at War on Wii)..of course, as many Wii games..the pictures don't do any justice to how the games look on TV.

Same here, I loved it. Don't let the negativity get to you. The internet is a breeding ground for bitching and complaining. It didn't quite top MW, I still consider that the best SP campaign ever, but it was definently great fun. The constant flip-flopping between stories killed it somewhat and I really wanted to play more of the US-Russian invasion missions. Those were awesome.

Apparently Treyarch asked for input on MP and the MP lead responded to this Machinima guy's BO wishlist video:

"What do you think about Blame Truth's video feedback?

RE: Dedicated Servers. Dedicated servers for console (Xbox, PS3, Wii) games. The cost/reward structure of dedicated servers for console games is complicated as All Get Out. I am not talking about PC games. That's a different, and much easier, conversation. My point is simply that error you see that you think is lag, is not necessarily caused by latency, and dedicated servers won't solve every perceived error you think is lag.

Re: Matchmaking.. We have a few very specific ideas to improve host selection. Yet, no matter what you do until you can build a profile/library/db of who is a good host and who is not, the first couple of times someone ends up host he is going to be as good of a host as anyone else. The game can't see into the future. His connection might of been awesome at the time host selection was made.

Generally, however, we like the "make matchmaking as fast as possible" approach. When you start adding in matchmaking criteria, such as: "I only want to play with people who think cussing is OK," you end up making the matchmaking process slower.

I like the idea of allowing the user, in matchmaking preference, to opt out of joining games in progress. But, I don't think I would turn it on by default. I will discuss that with the team and see what we can do.

Re: Map Preference. We did do some work in this area. Blame Truth wants to go back to the COD2 way. What we have is more simple and requires active participation.

Re: Bare Bone Playlists. This can be done right now except for the "no weapon attachments" part of it. I would say that if people want a playlist, then they should lobby Josh. We have features that require more post-launch support than ever before. Playlists can be updated.

Re: Weapon Balance. Black Ops is trying to find some place between the skill of World at War weapons with the accessibility of MW2 weapons. Easy to use, difficult to master. I added a guy to my team this year, who is working on this nearly full-time.

We are committed to this idea and committed to fixing what we don't get right. I get a lot of feedback that the guns "should be more like MW2" and are "too hard to use, and should have less kick and sway."

The more focused (dare I say hard-core?) competitive FPS gamer seems to prefer the World at War tuning. I am like you. I also prefer it, but it would be arrogant to complete dismiss and ignore the other 10 million people who are not like us.

Get rid of overpowered akimbo weapons
Get rid of commando perk
Get rid of lightweight perk

then we may have a good game.

"Less is more"

Hopefully Treyarch uses that motto.

Whoops, sorry for the double post, thought someone would post.

I keep thinking I'll get sick of CoD but the trailer looked crazy good to me. Hopefully the campaign is better than MW2 though, I thought that was pretty terrible.

Good trailer but I don't really care about the campaign since it'll be "decent" at the very worst. I want more MP information, and hopefully we get that around E3.

Looks great :) I'm still withholding judgment until we see extended gameplay (dev walkthrough, or something akin to that) which we won't likely get until E3.

I will say though, while it did look great, a lot of it appeared a little too Modern Warfare 2-esque. It's likely that's simply the fault of the way the trailer was cut, but still. A few of those scenes could have come from the MW2 trailer and I wouldn't have noticed at first glance.

Ah well, still looking forward to more info at E3 :D

Honestly, if the game gets rid of "evolving perks" then I'll be interested. The reason I was okay with going prestige in a game like World at War is because there wasn't much detriment to gameplay, and I could still hold my own with everything offered at level 1. In MW2, you are pretty much forced to invest a decent amount of time into the game before you get anywhere close to being on a level playing field, because you don't get stingers at the start, and all your perks suck compared to everyone else.
