WaW was so good. The brutal and grotesque side of war was very well presented. It felt so haunted with corpses hanging from trees, especially when that creepy background music that sounded like a distorted 'crying' started playing. It felt ugly, intimidating and scary.

Exactly, It needs more love. I've been watching The Pacific recently and the scenes on Peleliu are so familiar to the missions from WaW that it made me appreciate Treyarch's effort even more. I also feel kinda sorry for the guys because their products are decent but they are getting ass-raped by the community most of the time.

on a side note: did anybody watch the latest episode of th Pacific on Peleliu where a US marine
throws rocks into a Japanese soldier's blown off head?
Talking about brutality...that shit was more grotesque than "No Russian"

I think we're talking about the Treyarch hate here.

Though with all the praise I can give them for CoD:WaW they better not slouch on Black Ops.

Fuck, the GT pop up trailer looked incredible. Should be an awesome roller coaster ride, now that WWII has been exhausted, one would hope that Treyarch went balls out with the action sets, Modern Warfare style.

I agree, it actually resonated with me as a gamer. I also thought the way that also addressed the level of HATE that the Russians had for the Germans was something that normally gets glossed over. W@W really showed it, and it felt like an accurate showing of what war is like: scary, brutal, and full of confusion. The Blackcat level also gave a real sense of urgency in wanting to rescue the sailors. The voice work was also excellent. I'm really, really looking forward to what Black Ops will be like.

MW2 SP had none of that. It was fun to play, but every level was just, oh come on this makes no sense, after I played it. There was no emotional registering with the game. The only part I felt an emotional connection with may have been DC and the White House.

at the end of the day treyarch are hard working team who turn out good games... they deserve respect for their effort.

slating them is pretty basic in a lot of ways... especially when they have made some very enjoyable software.

while it's fashionable to hate on activision and it was fashionable to hate on waw... it;s worth remembering that for all the crap heaped on treyarch and waw... not everyone was blown away by MW2 just look in the MW2 thread..... and activision / infinity ward are not the only developer and publisher to undergo a legal meltdown.

folks need to grow up and realise the world is many things other than just black and white.

Also, in the beginning of the trailer you can see various digits that say 2010:0112.

So I'm pretty sure it's present day.

I think I would pee my pants from the general awesomeness that would happen if Activision were to lose the rights to make a CoD past Vietnam per the alleged agreement.

"Um... so... do we create a new brand and release the game nobody has ever heard of? Or do we send it back to development to cut out all the bits we're unable to include?"

Watching Activision deal with the problem would be flippin' phenomenal. :D

Is this even possible?

Cold War + Blackbird + ICBM's launch + Russians + Helicopter Action = Preordered.

I don't care if it's treyarch(COD 3 was abysmal, Didn't play WaW since it was another WW2 game.) I'm buying this one.

I have doubts about the whole Korea thing. They're going to end up doing three campaigns lke the oldschool CODs and WaW, and most likely we already know the locations.
What locations do you think they are? Korea makes perfect sense to me given that the tagline below the trailer states you "witness and partake in the birth of special forces".

Quote from Wikipedia:

"Since the initial Special Forces unit, the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) was activated on 19 June 1952, and the Korean War broke out on 25 June 1950, US Army Special Forces did not operate as a unit in that war. Experience gained in the Korean War, however, influenced the development of US Army Special Forces doctrine."

Sounds like the Korean War is a good fit to me, since it would give some good background on the aforementioned "birth".

wat

I thought [my country] had the best special forces.

Anyway, this does look pretty cool. Liked WaW from the little time that my friends played it. Hope they include a Nazi/KGB/Vietcong campaign.

WaW was better than MW2, Treyarch hate is misplaced. Tons of developers making games that are truly bad that don't get the shit that Treyarch does.

End of the day, doubt Treyarch cares: WaW still sold a ton and did very well with its DLC.

I think I was too hard on waw. Was really disappointed with mw2. black ops pop block trailer was pretty awesome. I might try to pick up waw on the cheap now.

I haven't seen a damn thing on this game bud fuck me that ad on GT.com is rigoddamndiculous Those type of ads should be illegal. Am I an idiot how do you close that thing?

Didn't like MW2, I think this looks far more interesting storyline wise at least! that saud it will be the same old gameplay though :(

Mw2 isn't that bad. It isn't balanced, but its a fun game, its just not a serious game :D

Not balanced = Not fun IMO. MW2 was frustrating as hell in multiplayer. I had to put it down in January for fear of elbow dropping my 360, and haven't looked back since.

I'm burned out on CoD... I don't find much value in it anymore, I don't like the MP (I prefer single player games), and the SP is either short (MW, WAW) or it ticks me off (MW2).

But maybe Black Ops will be interesting. If it has an excellent story and a good length, then I'll give it a shot... maybe, next year, if the price drops (MW was still 60 bucks like 2.5 years after release).

I'm not British. =P

For me its all about what they'll do with the multiplayer if they copy MW2 I won't buy it, they need to do something new not just copying stuff like they did in WaW.

And so is Delta Force and SEAL Team 6 and the CIA's SAD SOG, etc., etc., etc...
If you believe the Medal of Honor type, then Tier One guys are better than the best. I haven't found much about them to back that up though.

Exactly how the fuck is co-op in Gears any different to co-op in WaW? Oh, you have to select a path which is just a few feet away from the other? Please.

Halo3 and L4D are in no way different either.

What?

Arent most of the people that were at Gray Matter not there anymore?

According to Gray Matter's Wiki-page, most of the people who were at the company when they were merged with Treyarch are pretty much gone now.

The campaign in MW2 made no sense at all.

Yep, I really just want to start a thread dissecting all the fucking nonsense in that game level by level. Yeah, I realize it's fanboyish, but goddamn the crap that happens is MW2 is by far the Grand Canyon of Logic Jumps for a game of such high production value. Like I've said the SP is fun, but it just makes no sense how it could be going on. W@W while nothing new made sense and was logically which made for a better overall experience.

Yeah WaW is a cool game, replaying the campaign right now and it's kind of surprising how savage everything in it is. I like that the combat in WaW is brutal enough to make you feel like you're a participant in in something utterly hideous. I like that this message wasnt communicated in the ham fisted manner of,say, No Russian.

I loved the tone of WaW and it was even brought well over into the multiplayer. Tons of Saving Private Ryan moments. Like seeing a guy run up to a tank with a satchel charge and not getting clear of the blast range exploding himself to bits, or a bazooka rocket nailing a guy up in a church tower and just seeing a red blood cloud and limbs. Really grotesque and gritty stuff that made you go "oooo" as opposed to MW2's Halo ragdoll stuff which was more on the funny side. I have faith Treyarch will bring this tone back.
