Can someone explain to me exactly what quick scoping is? Does the game auto-aim when you first open your scope or something? At work, can't watch a video

If you hipfire a sniper it'll be pretty inaccurate, even if they are on the center of your screen. You try to put them in the center of your screen then tap the scope and fire immediately after to get the accuracy of a scoped shot with the damage of the snipers.

When it works it looks nice but it's pretty inconsistent for almost everybody.

so still havent cracked open my hardened 360 copy, probably wont get around to playing it until mid or late december (skyrim, uncharted 3, halo cemake, zelda) will i be missing out on any content or benefits by waiting?

Maybe it's just rage, but I swear people are worse at taking down air support than ever in this game. I feel like I'm the only person even attempting to do it half the time. My entire team just got annihilated by helicopter after helicopter that were barely visible because of all the fucking buildings on the tiny map.

No, because you'll still get founders status with the elite card code.

I love when the enemy calls in air support. It's free points.

Oh, and I love love LOVE when they call in an escort care package or Osprey gunner.

I down that thing as soon as I can. Not only do they lose out on kills, but all of those packages they are expecting are gone as well.

Wellllll, you may want to redeem the Elite code to get Founder status (I forget what the date is you need to redeem it by to get Founder status). If you do that, then you can take that Founder card and eBay it to make back a good chunk of the price of the Hardened Edition. It used to be that you had to redeem Elite before the 13th, but I think they extended it due to the issues with Elite. May be worth a check.

If I can sell my Founder card for $80 then I will have essentially gotten the game and all DLC map packs for free, considering I had a $20 discount when I bought the game. :)

Black Ops still has a community of 200,000 which is an absurd amount to have after a sequel. One of the good things about CoD games: they don't lose their audience. I can play BLOPS for more of the traditional mid to long range with some close and MW3 for almost all CQB. It's a damn shame the map packs come up to $60.

The architecture is a big part of it. The other part is that the stingers are fairly high level so you can't take down an attack helicopter in a single life without unloading a shitload of gunfire into it.

I know this is purely anecdotal but turning off Theater Mode made an instant difference in the feel of multiplayer. 3 bar matches play pretty well and there's very little "Die in what appears to be one shot but it's actually 2 bursts" stuff. Could just be a good round of matches, but even in games where my team got annihilated I did pretty well.

I was actually looking for the setting to shorten names in game (didn't find it) when I saw the Theater Mode option.

Yet another nice feature that Treyarch introduced that IW completely ignored. I just love seeing those fucking skittles popping up in everyone's clan tags!

Important updates about Call of Duty ELITE

To our Call of Duty® ELITE Founders:

This week we launched ELITE and MW3 with the goal of bringing together the Call of Duty community like never before. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer has been off to a smooth start. Call of Duty ELITE however is off to a rocky start. Many of you have tried to get into the new service and have had difficulty.

Simply put, we have not lived up to your - or our - expectations with this launch, and we owe you an apology, and an explanation of how we are fixing this.

The sheer number of MW3 gamers coming online at the same time crushed our registration and login systems. We fixed that specific issue, but have now found that the demand is now also crashing our data servers. We are deploying multiple additional servers, and are also going to temporarily limit access to ELITE services on both the console applications and website while we build additional capacity and scale. We have deployed resources from across the company working 24/7 on this problem, and we look to increase access to greater numbers of users as soon as possible.

If you do not see all your recent matches or career summary, don't worry - your gameplay data for your entire careers in both Black Ops and MW3 are safely stored, and it will all be available to you once these issues are resolved.

As a Founder, know that granting your status and in-game benefits in MW3 is a priority. We will also be prioritizing your access to ELITE in order to ensure that you are among the first to get fully into the service. Also, to make sure that you are still getting the value you deserve, we are immediately and automatically extending your membership to Call of Duty ELITE by 30 days at no additional cost.

We hope that you will bear with us as we tackle these initial issues. Our commitment to you as an ELITE Founder is to deliver the best possible service experience, and outstanding value for your premium membership. We are working around the clock and will not rest until ELITE delivers the full set of features we promised you.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

- Chacko Sonny, Studio Head, Beachhead Studio
- Jamie Berger, VP Digital, Activision

So, is the card that came with my Hardened edition not linked with the code that comes on the flimsy paper inside the actual game case? There is, effectively, two ways to get ELITE in the box?

At the very least they need to give an option to turn off visible clan tags in game.

The Founder site makes it sound like you can use the card that came with the Hardened Edition whenever you want to get Founder status. The deadline was only for people who upgrade to Elite Premium.

I bet those codes will be pretty valuable.

Yep, the Founder card is for people who got the Hardened Edition as a Christmas gift, for instance, and were unable to redeem Elite before the 13th. If you redeemed the Elite code before the 13th, you get Founder status without needing to use the Founder card. So you can sell the Founder card and make back a nice chunk of change. If some moron was willing to buy MW3 for $1700 a few days early, I'm sure some people will be willing to pay an arm and a leg for the chance to get Founder status.

Far out. Now to either capitalize on this now and get some money, or wait and risk getting less...
Is there a way to tell if I've used my card? I tried using it when I first got the game, but it may not have gone through due to the Elite site not functioning. I hadn't realized there was a code to redeem through XBL at the time.

I think I'm the only COD player who despises Domination. I'll play TDM, Kill Confirmed, and Demolition all day long, but Domination just annoys the hell out of me. It's fun when you have a good team, but it sucks so much ass when your team sucks and you can't hold a flag for longer than 30 seconds. Pretty much every pro video I watch is of Domination, and I don't understand why this mode is so popular.
It's popular because a lot of famous CoD players like to abuse the spawn system when the opposing team has only 1 flag. As a result, a lot of the good non-sandy-ravage players tend to just switch from spot near enemy flag spawn to spot near enemy flag spawn.

That and the fact that more kills (and thus more points) are obtainable in domination.

Personally, I like Kill Confirmed, TDM, and Search and Destroy, mainly because they all are great modes for rushing.

I don't think the website allowed you to redeem the code before the 13th. I tried, but there was no place to input it on the website.

Oh, interesting. So it's a way to rank up quicker and get through all those prestiges. Lol, reminds me of grinding in MMOs. Yeah I can't stand Domination, I prefer more rush-y modes like the ones you mentioned. That's also why I love Black Ops: much more of a rusher's game than MW3 is.

as much as i loved using the olympia in black ops, the maps in MW3 are much more for rushers (except for Fallen and Resistance, but those two are still less campy than shit like array, hazard, and nuketown)

I've been getting dropped halfway through games all night. Stopped playing completely after I was 12-1 and got dropped from the fifth game in a row. I decided it wasn't worth it and I resumed my Veteran run of the campaign.

You think so? I just feel like there is so much crap in the levels you can hide behind that it makes rushing a death sentence. You really have to take your time rounding corners, checking a lot of different spots, making sure you don't run past a guy crouched behind some piece of wreckage who can shoot you in the back. Not to mention the vast number of flanking routes available in each level.

I feel like in Black Ops you could figure out a rushing route for each level that was effective and limited flanking options. So far I'm not finding the same is true for MW3.

I don't think I can play Domination in this game anymore. It was my preferred playlist for MW2 and Black Ops, but it's just so bad on most of these maps. If your team is only holding one flag (or worse yet, none), the combination of the map design plus the horrendous spawns make it worse than ever if you don't have a competent team.

It's a shame. Luckily, Kill Confirmed and Team Defender are both awesome, so they'll be taking it's place for me.

To me, the point of rushing was to either get first blood by getting a guy before he realizes he should be on the defense or quickly getting to the other side of the map so that you can flank the opponent from behind. Though there is a lot of cover, that shouldn't matter so long as you make sure to turn and aim at the common hiding spots first, use well thrown semtex for areas that you know people tend to hang out in groups at, always go for an alternate route with lots of cover to hug, and throw special grenades in places where you just aren't sure. Stalker pro is much more effective with rushing past a bouncing betty, ims, or claymore than the jammer and scrambler.

And then you have the support strike package, which was pretty much designed for the less defensive of players.

Hmm, yeah I guess I don't know the levels well enough to be able to do that just yet. Maybe it's just a familiarity thing. Surprisingly I actually do extremely well on Fallen and Bakaara, which are more open, long sightline type maps. I also really enjoy Hardhat, but that's because I know quite a few spots to check as I'm running through it. I dunno, maybe you're right and the maps will grow on me over time.

Finally prestiged today and used unlock gear on 4 different things. This is the easiest cod game to prestige in, especially if you have 3 extra tokens. Feels good man. I'll just alternate between unlocking gear and unlocking an extra class. IMO, this is the best way to go. Spending tokens on double xp and all that other nonsense is a waste.

I don't know what Sandy Ravage was talking about when he said the Spas 12 was back in one of his videos. I was shooting people form 5-10 feet and not dropping them. Sometimes it took 2 or 3 shots for them to go down at point blank range. Shotguns blow so far in this game. My only complaint so far. I hope they tweak it soon.

You need the damage proficiency.

It feels like I've been working on getting blind eye pro forever. I shoot down anything I see. The stinger is so bad ass btw. The only annoying thing is when I'm playing with friends it's a race to shoot down air support first. It's a shame about domination though. That was our go to game type with my friends. Honestly, we've played nothing but kill confirmed and team defender though.

Hey guys quick question, in mw2 the silencer basically didnt affect the weapon at all. Is the same true in mw3? When I used it, I felt like the range was actually really affected. Anyone know?

When you select the silencer, you can see the 'range' bar go down. So yes, it affects the range. I believe it did the same in MW2 (it does in Black Ops, that's for sure).

in MW2 the range bar did decrease, but it honestly was not noticeable at all. That's why I was wondering, but I guess they fixed that issue.
