Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 |OT| Got 99 Problems, But Sales Ain't One.

There will be enough idiots that would buy a $20 map pack at this point.

I'll be one of those idiots and i'm proud of it. I can't be the only idiot on these forums who feels this way, lol.

I was really debating it but I much rather wait for these collection packs instead of buying elite. Saving $10 just so you can get maps early isn't enough for me. Spec ops missions aren't a big deal either. Play it, get 3 stars and move on.

Winner verification for Clan Operations is taking longer than anticipated to ensure that winners didn’t violate the Elite Code of Conduct. Rather than distribute prizing before verifying all winners, we've chosen to take the time needed to accurately identify legitimate winners to ensure the integrity of Clan Operations now and for the future. We'll update as soon as this process has been completed and awards are distributed.

To shorten verification time in the future and avoid any miscommunication as to what constitutes a violation, we'll be posting additional guidance in the Code of Conduct sections of all Operation detail pages and here in the forums.

They'll probably remove the Elite playlists until the next batch comes out.

Yeah but that's just delaying the inevitable. At some point there will be DLC+ELITE+REGULAR

Everyone in the top 10-20 or whatever for the dom caps basically boosted the operation with people on the other team. Too bad you can't watch people's recent matches like you could in blops. It would expose them REAL fast

I'm about to prestige for the first time? Whats the best use for my first token I go 1:1 most of the time so I'm not great. I was thinking of the mp7, I know the double xp uses are a waste and I don't really need a custom class.

I get the mp7 every time I prestige because it's my favourite gun. My advice would be to get a weapon or perk you like the most. Double XP, as you said, is pretty worthless

Wait, do i have to use the token on the mp7 every time i prestige or does the first token keep it for all 15+ prestiges? All the past COD games I rarely made it past lvl 20 rofl. I really am loving the mp7 with silencer on it, I seem to be able to hit people with how it changes recoil or whatever it does, I can't hit shit when using rapid fire for some reason. If I keep it with my token I'm thinking of trying silencer + extended mags.

Ah no it stays unlocked, so if you get the mp7 with the token you don't need to do it again at the next prestige it'll still be unlocked

Have you tried silencer + rapid fire together on mp7? it's the best combo imo

It's obviously completely up to you, but I'd try to go with something level 60 or higher.

I'm more excited about the fact that along with the new map will be a title update that buffs the LMGs.
I haven't been playing much or paying much attention, where was this mentioned? Thanks

Just a heads up, rapid fire does less on the MP7 than any other guns in the game. I believe it's only a 10% increase compared to most having 30%.

I've always used Double XP for tokens. (12th prestige)

There are enough guns available from the start that are good, and you really shouldn't be so dependent on a gun that you need it from level one. I don't even use the six custom classes I have either, so there's no need for that.

Hey CoD-GAF, quick question. I've been out of the Call of Duty loop since MW2, I tried Black Ops a bit but never made any real attempt to enjoy it. I'm wondering what the overall consensus on MW3 is in the CoD-pantheon now that it's been a few months? What pushed me away from MW2 - like many - was the focus on killstreaks instead of gun combat and the stupid number of ways to die from explosives (grenade launcher spamming and such), in addition to the amount of hacking that eventually started happening.

I guess I'm just curious how MW3 stacks up now that it's been a few months since the game's launch, since I'm starting to think about getting back into the franchise again. I'm not specifically asking "hey has all the shitty stuff from MW2 been removed and the game has gone back to being like CoD4 awesome??" because I know that's really asking too much at this point.

I've heard the maps are smaller than ever, which isn't that big of an issue despite the fact that I tend to enjoy larger ones. But as long as the game is relatively well balanced (for a Call of Duty title) and killstreaks/explosives don't completely rule the landscape a 'la MW2, I'm definitely willing to give MW3 a go.

Got bored of specialist and wanted to try assault just for care packages and predators since i dont go on much higher kill streaks. I got a ac100 and ended up with a 5:1. It felt amazing lmao. Those missiles it shoots on the map mission sure can wipe out a lot of people with each shot.

Its far from being CoD4 awesome, its still a bit unbalanced I personally wouldnt recommend it but my reasons are probably not going to apply to you. I dislike it because it seems like perks have gone from being cherrys on top of playstyles, to really affecting how you play the game. For example, without Quickdraw it takes your character longer to recover from nade throws / take longer to aim down sights. In the past perks might have made you quicker in certain areas, but it never felt like they nerfed your base character to balance perks. There are a few perks like that which I feel ruin the fundamental base gameplay unless you use them.

Basically, I go on the CoD forums a lot and they have a hotfix/title-update thread there where one of the developers posts.

While he was attempting to defend the developers' decision to not buff the 1887 and AA12 nor buff the spas-12 and ksg-12 further, he stated that one of the things the developers use as an indicator of what needs to be buffed is the total KPM (Kills Per Minute) with each weapon.

I pointed out that if KPM is important than clearly the developers noticed how next to no one uses LMGs, which he acknowledged but claimed it was because of the slow movement and lack of long range sightline on most maps. In his argument he gave incorrect data regarding the damage on LMGs, leading me to point out the error he made as well as the numerous ways that LMGs are currently inferior to ARs which was basically everything except ammo and the prone bonus (even the range is worse on LMGs on average than ARs)

As a result of said discussion, the developers decided to buff the LMGs, and indications point to the common theme in said buff being an increase in long range damage.

Here's the title update thread on the CoD forums:

Everyone bitched about the $15 MW2 DLCs and it turned out to be the highest-selling DLC ever.

There will be enough idiots that would buy a $20 map pack at this point.

Agreed, but I know surprisingly few people who bought Elite, and just about everybody I know who didn't straight balks at $20. I think the extra $5 is seriously going to be the tipping point, especially because there seems a lot more negativity about MW3 than MW2/Blops. I know at this point the only reason my group of friends is still playing MW3 is because there's no other solid game for us to all play right now, whereas with MW2/Blops we played it because we wanted to over other things.

Also the fact that they're now predicting that MW3 will sell less lifetime than Blops did is indicating to me that we may have hit the CoD fatigue/breaking point. Even though I really liked Blops (and even more in hindsight after MW3) I kinda don't give a fuck about what they're putting out this year.

I like it. I've had to change the way I play though. I used to run&gun a lot but it's hard to be consistent at that with the way the net code is. I've switched to a more slow moving AR playstyle which is different but fun. I do run a couple smg/shotty classes but most of my time is spent with assault rifles now.

I definitely almost never knife anymore which used to be a staple of my gameplay. It's just way too inconsistent now.

As for explosions and killstreaks, the only one that annoys me is predator but there are ways to avoid that (blind eye, trophy system, scrambler). Most people I play against in TDM never go past that. Explosions have mostly been toned down. Frags have the same explosion radius as semtex (both pretty small). Grenade launcher requires you to basically be right on. RPGs/SMAW can still be somewhat annoying though and there are deathstreaks like dead man's hand which I absolutely hate.

I'm not sure if I like it more than blops or cod4 but I have enjoyed my time with it. If you want to focus on gun combat you can run a support class with uav+ballistic vests which is one of my favorite setups.

Again, get 73000 XP on a Dome demolition match (45k in challenges) and I get 0. This XP cap is fucking stupid.

Also, was just 1 away from a MOAB. Got killed by a modded MK14.

Thanks for fighting the fight man. I've been trying to get 1k kills with some of the LMGs and it is such a grind. They lose out at all ranges + I rarely ever go prone. I guess I'll hold off for the buff

Cool, good to see that there are some on there that aren't completely irrational. Looking forward to some stronger LMGs!

What's the cap? I'm surprised I've never run into it. That said, as a workaround it shouldn't be that hard to spread the challenges around a bit.

It's good that they are buffing them, because the prone bonus is actually a really nice idea and when you try and use it for any straight, open corridor it works decently. I just hope they are at least doing 2/3 of the following for each of them:

- decrease recoil
- increase long range damage
- increase range by 40%

What is this cap that you speak of? And yeah, I played a dude that had a modded controller and only used the MK14 and the semi auto snipers with an acog. Shit was infuriating.

Thinking about trying to screw around with a LMG. Any setup I should try? I know they are a pain, I just want to see how much of a pain :)

L86
Stinger
Sleight of Hand
Quickdraw
Marksman

Good starter class. The L86 has the least recoil out of all the lmgs right off the bat.

I use L86 with 2 attachments: grip and infared with Focus
Stinger

Blind Eye Pro
Hardline Pro
QuickDraw Pro

Thing is laser like with the infared

Lol I remember using the L86 in MW2 with a red dot and a heartbeat sensor. When you aim into it, you can actually see the whole monitor while aiming! I wonder if its the same in MW3. Been putting some hours into ME3 demo. Man that's a fun game.

Back on the subject, is there any chance there will be more than 10 custom classes? I see some extra space after the 10th class when choosing your class in combat.

Speaking of which, Overkill Pro should let you use two proficiencies (sp?) at the same time. That would have made it a much more liable red perk.

Overkill's problem is that IW/Sledghammer thinks that machine pistols being as good as primaries is a good idea.

If they didn't have machine pistols in this game (or made them shitty at most ranges) I'm sure you would see more snipers (and possibly shotgun users as well) using overkill.

Funny how people actually stayed to get killed. Most of the moabs I seen with my friends everyone leaves. Congrats btw. I only got 2 with a type 95 and an AK47 (I think)
I had a lot of close calls but this was my first full on moab.

And people say I need to let it go?

I'm just teasing. I actually wish that I was better at adapting to other people's playstyles and slowing things down when necessary.

Try this:

Mk46 w/Red Dot and Grip
Akimbo Magnums (mostly for the quick swap so I can pick up someone else's primary)
Trophy System or Tac Insert + Bouncing Betty or C4
Blind Eye Pro (you don't need Stingers with this perk)
Quickdraw Pro
Stalker Pro (a must)

Specialist Package: Sitrep Pro, Sleight of Hand, Hardline or Scavenger
Of course, the other packages are fine too, but getting Kick and Faster speed don't hurt.

you had some times where you could have been grabbing some enemy tags, but at least you won.

on the "camping-rushing scale", you were started slowing a 5 when you decided to stick to the back side of the map and just kept switching between A(downward road turn), B(broken fence area), and C(tourist shop).

Yep.

Definitely became more careful when it came to which tags I should and shouldn't pick up as I got closer to the moab. Luckily I had some solid random teammates. I made a lot of mistakes and got lucky at least a handful of times too.

Or, it's going to be like Blops where everyone has AA launchers making any air support useless. I don't think strong machine pistols are that bad; I still prefer rapid firing PP90 over akimbo FMG9. One of setup is using Overkill with PP90 and T95 that covers all range.

This isn't Blops where you needed a launcher to have any chance of taking out air support. In MW3, a couple AR mags or 2/3 of an LMG mag is enough to easily take out anything that isn't an osprey, reaper, or ac130 even without blind eye. You can even use a sniper rife against air support effectively.

Plus there are all the obstructions that make it harder to use launchers.

Forgot to post this here. Apart from one miss, probably the best sniping spree I've ever had.

I don't know what it is, being hearing that hit confirmation sound and seeing all those names pop in the kill feed makes me tingly * orgasms*

Give yourself some more credit man! pulling off a MOAB with an unsilenced UMP is impressive, and they're aren't too many moments in your video I would describe as lucky; You played and a nice, controlled pace and made mostly smart decisions. It is kinda obvious you tensed up a bit though ( I know because I do the same thing on a high streak!) but you played well in spite of that.

seeing this clips makes me want to play, but I know I'm just gonna end up annoyed sooner or later. Oh well, MW3 is still fun to watch at least. I think I'll upload some matches later though.

So I'm playing Free For All and having a really good game, about 30 seconds left get on another streak and quickly drop my care package in hopes of a Predator Missile or something and someone kills me and then (pretty sure intentionally) dies from the crate, I think "Awesome!" say thanks and that was the winning kill cam and I got the Head's Up title. While that's pretty awesome and I'm stoked someone did that for me I didn't get the Droppin' Crates title, is that a glitch or do you need to be in a specific mode? Either way I'm proudly displaying my new emblem but I find this pretty strange, perhaps it doesn't count if it's the last kill before time runs out instead of reaching the required score to win?

EDIT: Just as a side note I have the challenge unlocked in the barracks, checked that out and seemed all clear.

EDIT2: Nvm, support guy reckons it's only available in Team Death Match

Ok I was using my Stinger last night to shoot down a recon drone. Both missles missed from what looked like countermeasures dropped by the drone. I have never seen this before: does the drone have counter measures like an AC130 has??
