MWIII will be my first CoD game. I'm only interested in the campaign. I'm looking for something short and linear with excellent gameplay. Is this a good one to start on?

Damn… I went to cancel the download (since I selected MW2 and 3 campaigns to download) and it apparently deleted the base game/container it was in too? Now I have to download 200gb again. Maybe I won't get to play this today

sure, MWIII has excellent gunplay.
Infinite warfare is probably the best campaign wise.

I've been very pleasantly surprised. And as someone who isnt going to play multiplayer this kind of gives me a general idea of what some of the maps, level design, and item placement might be like but its packaged as a single player level. You have some freedom to explore the map and pick your route a bit. Story isnt very hard to follow at all.

I've never played a CoD before, so a lot of this is new to me. Played about two or three hours of the MWIII campaign tonight and, hot damn, this game is great! The gameplay is so tight and polished. Most of the weapons I've tried are super fun and satisfying, especially the weird gimmick ones like the drones and air strikes. There's just the right amount of auto aim for controller use, and so many little QoL things all over the place. Plus 120fps is real nice.
The levels are pretty cool, too. I'm less of a fan of the more open parts, but I love the more linear missions. The story is fine. Same with music and graphics and whatnot, but it's all still very polished.
The game feels really homogenized and generous to the player, but for someone like me who rarely plays FPS games, it's really indulgent. It's kind of like eating a Reese's cup. Having a couple when you're craving it is amazing. But you wouldn't want to eat 15 in a row.
I'm probably around 30-40% done so far and I want to keep playing but I have a flight tomorrow, then I'm gone for a week. But I'm looking forward to finishing it when I get back.

Might be harder than people think, Pretty sure the MS Store games are really locked down to the point you can't even view the files. If they are playing it from other locations then yes but I know MS did some funny stuff to stop people from pissing around with their games.

I'm really enjoying this game, but good lord there are waaaaay too many cutscenes. I just want to get to the gameplay, but I don't want to completely skip everything.

Finished High Rise. Honestly one of the coolest FPS levels I've played in recent memory. Felt like the Raid going up the floors in interesting ways. Constantly having to watch corners. Switching to night vision on certain hallways. Seriously loved it.
Reminded me of raid too. I accidentally dropped to the ground near the top, but luckily i had gotten ascender. So getting back to top was fast since there is no checkpoints.

Finished the campaign. The last level was incredible. Honestly loved it. I'm super hyped for any more of these coming to GP. Way, way more fun, and just way cooler than I ever expected.

Glad you enjoyed it. BLOPS6 should blow your socks off later in the year hopefully as MWIII is regarded as one of the weaker campaigns.
COD gets a bad rap around theses parts but I've been back onboard since 2019 and had a great time with the various editions, Vanguard excluded.

I tried subbing for a single month to get my COD fix, and gave up after 20 minutes.
I find it funny how stupidly bad the pc xbox app still is, but the 13% positive reviews on steam also got me to skip it even on sale.
Can't wait for black ops 6 though, that fucker is a day one purchase.

I didn't know they added split-screen back in MWIII. My girl and I played a couple hours last night and it was really fun. The image quality takes a huge hit when splitscreen but the framerate was smooth/10 on the XSX.

Might have to check that out. I'm playing PC, but my wife wants to try it so I might have to throw this onto the X. Only downside is she gets terrible motion sickness, so this may end horribly.
This is my first COD game since MW3 in 2011, so it's been interesting getting back into it a bit.

Well, I tried it, couldn't get it into. I suspect we don't play the same games for different reasons. In my case, most of what I miss is because I check gaming out once a decade. I'm on my way back out; apart from MSFS, I wasn't missing anything. Maybe I'll see some of you some years down the road, but I can already tell that if this board is still here, I'll likely bump the same old threads and see everyone's been banned.

Lol, from all the vitriol aimed towards its single player campaign I expected garbage, but it is actually a pretty damn cool game. From all the ten or so SP CoD campaigns I have played this is nowhere near the worst. The mix of stealthy open maps and tighter corridor shooting works really well.

I just hate the menuing in COD. WTF is that shit ? You download for exemple BOIII you end up with a fucking... I dunno how to call it, menu with dozens and dozens of options, to download Warzone, to download old COD games, all in the same menu, which you have to go through with L1/R1, up and down, left and right, and there are sub menus, and then subsubmenus, and then subsubsub menus...
When I see that shit 2 things happen. 1) I delete all that shit, with that in mind : "ok I loved you COD but I'm done with that shit", and 2) when I see the clusterfuck that is the menuing/UX design in COD, I think that they indeed belonged to MS, since they make the same kind of shit menus in their consoles OS since the Xbox One.

Menus were made before the acquisition, and ironically there's supposed to be an improved menu system in the upcoming BLOPS6.

I'll never understand the "menu" complaints, the top/default row is simply popular/last played modes, below that is MWIII, below that is Warzone, below that is MWII, and that's it; why is it so hard to just pick the game/mode you want to play?

I think it's jarring if you just don't know what it is. Once you understand it, it's really well designed honestly.
It's a Call of Duty Launcher. That's it. Then from inside there, download the specific things you want. Took me 10 min to get that, but after that, it's fine.
