Calling all DS owners: How's the screen holding up?

I don't have the brando, but I would think they'd last forever. You can remove them and clean them, and they're pretty durable from what I can tell. I put them through some rigorous testing after I put mine in, and no scratches, and I tried fairly hard.

I could ruin it and my ds with a nail, but as far as I can tell, under play conditions, they'll last as long as you need them. It's just as guess though, but like I said, they seem pretty damn hardy.

On a related note. How long do screen protectors last? Do they need to be replaced at some point?

The Brando ones, for example...
i've been using them on my DS and PDA. My PDA gets far more use and it still looks great after three months. If you notice scratches, they can be cleaned with warm water and reapplied. They've lasted longer and much better than the Fellowes protectors i was using before, and they fit the screen better as well.

Edit: i've been told that washing the Brando gets rid of light scratches and ink marks, but that the Brando's are more durable than most, if not all, other protectors. Still, the texture of the Brando (similar to paper) feels much better than other protectors to me. i've also heard good things about the Martin Fields protectors (http://www.overlayplus.com/US/modeldevice.asp?category=Others), but i haven't used them myself.

I have a number of scratches on mine, and a single huge scartch that can easily be seen while playing. Annoying as Hell. I got that one from a particular session of find boo, and I could practically see (and feel) it happening in slow motion. As it turns out, I think the stylus had an imperfection on it, so at a particular angle, it would scratch the screen. Changed to the spare stylus, and not as many problems.

My 2 DSs are holding up just fine but that is more due to the lack of anything to play rather than the durability of the system.

Mine's lookin' good. I don't know what you guys do when the screen attracts some dust, but I've found that a micro-fiber cloth -- got mine from Sunglass Hut -- is excellent for wiping it off without fear of scratches.

Thanks for the Brando feedback. I THINK the protectors might be coming in before my PSP, and I've actually toned down my DS play out of sheer paranoia. Last thing I want to do is fuck up and generate a scratch a day BEFORE applying the protectors.

One other thing, I understand that applying the protectors can be tricky, particularly if you accidently trap dust between the screen and protector. Any advice for screen protector noobs?

I eventually had to use a sewing needle to pry the edges up very carefully... worst product I have ever purchased.

Yikes, a sewing needle?

Thanks everybody for all the screen protector feedback. Is there anybody that's experienced several of the different "good" protectors that you guys have mentioned (nushield, brando, martin fields)? Any recommendations between them? Or should I just pick one? The Pelican one's got to go here, and I'd like to only have to replace it once.

EDIT: Well, I ended up getting the Pelican one off without too much trouble. The responsiveness is better now, but doesn't seem perfect. I'm a little worried because when I calibrated the touch screen and those four boxes pop up for you to test the calibration, the bottom left one didn't always respond very well while the other three were just fine. Sometimes I had to push a tad harder to get it to respond, and sometimes I would tap the screen once and it would either register a double tap or not register anything at all... :(
