Like if I burn it the same way I would a CD, will the burner read a vcd on a dvd... because I have no blank cds, just dvds

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking here. A VCD is a type of disc, a DVD is another type of disc. VCD's are movies, obviously, as are DVD's usually.

Any DVD player can usually read VCD's just fine, although VCD's in my experience are fairly low quality. If you're asking if you can rip a VCD and transfer it to a DVD, I assume you can if you find a program that will rip VCD's. I've never ripped a DVD, but I would imagine some of those programs would be able to rip a VCD also.

EDIT: You can put any video onto a DVD that is playable in a DVD player if you can convert it to the correct format, that's the hard part as I understand it.

I have a movie file that is a KVCD and is over 700MB and I can't convert it to a normal mpg to get DVD Santa to work (to get it on a DVD and I can't burn it as a normal VCD or even SVCD so I'm screwed with that movie.

use nero, goto vcd... and uncheck the box that says use for vcd (or something like that)... then burn... it should work

BUT MY QUESTION WAS: I dont want to convert anything... instead of burning a VCD to a physical CD... I want to burn it to a DVD... but it would still be a VCD, no converting. Is this possible?

I doubt it, a DVD disc is physically different from a VCD disc I believe. I can't imagine why you'd need to do this though, DVD players can be had for ~$20 if you shop around. :)

Yes you can use the VCD video on a DVD without reencoding, but you'll still have to create the DVD file system and IFO files. I think you can do that with Nero (not 100% sure, I don't use it)
