That doesn't make sense. Images in posts are hosted externally.

But images don't cause server load for NeoGAF, only for the image hosting sites' servers.

They need to switch to newer vBulletin code or similar, but they won't do that before E3. I know why they haven't switched because they are sticking with the devil they know so to speak.

Gaf servers couldn't even handle an announcement of a new Sonic game during the latest Nintendo Direct; the site is going to be buttfucked to oblivion come E3.

Very simple solution: Increase the message posting interval to 3 minutes.

This makes posters make more judicious posts instead of everyone repeating megaton! omg! for 2 5 pages. This will also allow servers breathing room for bandwidth and hopefully less 505 errors.

Combined with disabled avatars and restriction from posting in community threads can make the servers powerful enough to handle e3.

Or just buy more dell edges.

We hit 36K concurrent during the Microsoft conference, so it's no shock that we were down for a lot of it. NeoGAF is growing really quickly, and GameTrailers is promoting the NeoGAF documentary heavily.

temporarily employ some sort of elastic system to deal with demand during the regular busy schedule and revert back when everything settles down. no need to spend extra when its only needed a few times a year
