See the thing is, I wasn't a mod/admin back when the PS2/XB/GC were unveiled and subsequently released. I also wasn't 1/50th as pessimistic when it comes to console alliances back then either.
So yeah, it is going to get worse when E3 hits and the Xenon or 360 is unveiled and the PS3/Revolution are discussed, and it'll get even worse come November when the 360 is released, and even worse next year when the other two are released. It'll get bad.
But I'm an admin that fucking hates fanboys now. So it's also going to get good.

Well, not everyone has or will buy all three consoles. I don't have the freaking time to play all the games I want on the Xbox and PC, much less two more consoles. Besides that, I can only think of two games on the PS2 that I like and 3 on the Cube that I'm interested in playing. I'm sure others feel the opposite, and wouldn't touch an Xbox.
I'll see how it pans out nextgen, but I'm definitely on board for a Xenon. I will consider the PS3 and Revo depending on the hardware features, online execution, and games available.
In any event, the point is that competition is good for consumers; and monopolies generally suck for consumers.

I will admit I am a Sega fan all the way, but I stopped being a system fanboy when the Dreamcast died. Now I will go where Sega goes. If they support the X-box 360 the most I will go there. If they support the PS3 I will go there. If they support Nintendo the most I will go there. Nowadays I don't understand the fanboy for one system because all the systems have good games. Even I being a Sega fan, owned both the Genesis and the super Nintendo back in the 16 bit days, even thought I enjoy the Genesis the most.

There's a difference between a fan and a fanboy. Fanboys typically have an agenda that they want to push forward. It's why they troll threads, or start threads that are negative in some way against their competition. A fan will just talk about what he/she enjoys and just basically stay in topics about things they enjoy. I hope people will reconize this difference when the time comes.

This gen has broken down my system bias. I started off somewhat anticipating the gamecube, and not giving a shit about any of the others. I found myself impressed by Halo and PGR and Morrowind, ended up taking over my brothers Xbox and enjoying the system quite thoroughly. Got my fill of the Cube launch with my best friends Gamecube, very disappointed with SMS and SFA. Waited until the platinum cube/gba player bundle and snapped one up for 150. Bought a bunch of games and love the system, but mostly for its excellent multiplayer games. GBASP quickly becomes my favorite system, play it nonstop. Moved out, bought my own Xbox. Love it. Got a DS a few weeks after launch, love that too. GT4 loomed on the horizon, and I love racers. Always hated Sony hardware, and only interested in the RPGs on the software side. I caved in and picked up a used one a few weeks ago for 70 bucks from a friend, GT4, a few used/cheap games, and have been playing it nonstop. Just got my DFP wheel tonight. It is definately a solid system with a huge selection of great games. I love all my systems, and I can see myself fleshing out my libraries for each for years to come. Definately looking forward to PSP, Xenon, Revolution, PS3, and upgrading my PC.
The one console future arguement is stale as hell, they all offer something unique that can't be done on one system. If you can't afford them all, then exercise some self control and wait.

Ditto. At the beginning I was pro-GameCube/Nintendo all the way, with 10% loving my Dreamcast. I asked for a PS2 for Christmas, as I didn't want to buy one, and enjoyed Smugglers Run and SSX, but it was still a 'foreign system'. The XBox I barely ended up buying on launch because there was no point in waiting 3 months for JSRF (which ended up sucking, and Halo which I was skeptical as fuck on ended up being one of the best games of the last decade).captainbiotch said:

I support MS for a couple of reasons, and I would rather see them win than sony, does that make me an xbox? well you decide..
-If sony has 100% marketshare with PS4, since they're also a media company , they'll try to shove everything through the ps4 or whichever it is. Even though their hardware division kick ass, since they're also a media company, playstation will always be forced to bear whatever the media division comes up. They'll no doubt try to sell their own media more than other media companies. There's also no chance of them licensing PS4 tech to other companies since they make money on the hardware by producing everything themselves. In this case Sony will control the hardware, platform, the content and the delivery.
-MS just wants to have the platform. I'm sure they're not pleased with having to built the hardware themselves, something they traditionally do not. They create the platform and have other license it. If they get 100% marketshare, they'll just create a hardware standard and let all the CE companies produce their own version of it. They're not a media company at all so they have no intention of trying to aggressively shove media. They'll just provide a platform (which they already have in the form of xbox live) for downloadable movies and music and then transfer the control to others. They'll also encourage some Windows connectivity such as the media center stuff. I think it's a better win for consumers, they'll have more choices when it comes to hardware and content. MS will just control the platform, which is what they're all about really.
- Nintendo, I don't think they have a chance to win in the console/set top box business unless they come with something truly revolutionary and something that is not a gimmick, which I give very very low probability to. I just have a feeling they'll just come up with some new control method that is not too revolutionary, and continue to churn out Mario Zelda games on it. I hope they focus on the handheld space though, they produce the best handheld games.

This may be extraordinarily naïve, but really, how many regular GAF posters don't have all three current-gen systems? Or don't plan on getting all three next-gen systems? This whole fanboy thing has been beyond me for several generations. I mean who the fuck cares about the hardware? Buy it all, then buy the games you like regardless of the system. It's all about the games, isn't it? I haven't had to choose since I got a job...like 15 years ago. Am I being some elitist, rich-ass prick? Are there that many single or dual system owners here, or do fanboys still exist who own all three? If so, why? WHY??
I'm obviously a Xbox fanboy (running a Xbox centric site and all), but I certainly can appreciate games on other platforms. I just finished FFX and I will start playing Dark Cloud 2 tomorrow and I'm sure I'll enjoy it as much as FFX. I have a huge backlog of great PS2 games, and even since I'd rather play them on my Xbox where they would have had less graphical flaws (being the graphics whore I am...), they are still great games.
I'll get Xbox360 (EU and JP versions at least) at launch, and certainly PS3 as well provided it's got a better launch lineup than PS2. Getting a PS3 for me is guaranteed, especially now that it will have a great GPU for sure. As a graphics whore, I'm totally delighted
As for the next E3, unless Sony or Nintendo have a huge ace in their sleeve, MS will totally own it. Almost everyday I get a few more informations about 1st / 2nd and 3rd party games that will be unveiled there and it's just awesome. There will be at least 50 never seen before games for Xenon unveiled there, and so far (provided I only got informations for rather big and good publishers) they all have potential. I'm certainly biased, but I don't think there has ever been such a incredible unveiling. And yes, there are sequels, but also new franchise. The MGS Japan developed or published titles are all brand new franchise (obviously) and I can't wait to see what they will look like.

DC charlie, its probably not going to be sparks, my bet is which barrels have better physics apllied to them when you push them over. As for system wars, we have this every time machines are released. Xbox is way more powerful than PS2, and yes it did have better technology but when push come to shoove theres not a massive difference between what PS2 games look like and what XB games look. The same will be true of XB360 and PS3 the differences will be minimal.
