This is pretty fucked up...

Convicted killer Karla Homolka has spent time in a classroom with students at the Montreal private school where her young children attend classes, CTV News has learned.
Greaves Adventist Academy, a Seventh-Day Adventist private school in the Notre-Dame-de-Grace area of Montreal, confirmed that, on one occasion, Homolka was asked by a teacher to come into a classroom to show the students something related to knitting. School officials stressed that she was never alone with children. Homolka also accompanied students on a field trip that included adult supervisors.
On another occasion, she brought in a dog for a show-and-tell class.

Homolka served 12 years in prison after being convicted in connection with the rape and murder of Ontario schoolgirls Kristen French and Leslie Mahaffy. Homolka was released in 2005. Her then-husband Paul Bernardo, who was also convicted in the murders, remains in prison.
The school says Homolka is not a regular volunteer there.
On Wednesday morning, CTV News cameras captured Homolka dropping off her children at school. She did not speak with any reporters.
Tim Danson, the lawyer representing the families of French and Mahaffy told CTV News Channel on Tuesday that his clients struggle to cope with news of their daughters’ killers.
“As Doug French says, it’s like getting a kick in the gut, when you realize she has all of these freedoms and she participated with Paul Bernardo in the brutal murder of their daughter,” Danson said, adding it’s “tough to swallow.”

I sincerely hope I never see her in the streets. Not because I'd be afraid of her, but of what I'd do. This fucking animal should be dead.

What the fuck, she's back in Montreal? I was under the impression she had changed her name and fucked off somewhere in Guadeloupe or something.

Parents who criticized Karla Homolka say Greaves Academy asked them to leave

Several parents told the Montreal Gazette they became aware of Homolka's involvement with their school only after a man, who called himself a concerned citizen, passed out leaflets to parents in March. One parent, who tried to raise the issue with the school, was told he would not be welcome back when the new school year starts in September.

"When I first read the (leaflet), I thought it was a hoax," said Andy Maraj, whose daughter attends Grade 3 with one of Homolka's children. "But then I saw her and I saw her walking around with her dog for the children to play with. I told my daughter: ‘This lady, I don't want you to go near her please. If she calls you, don't go near her and call me,' because I don't trust the school."

Maraj said he's upset Homolka was permitted inside the school and to interact with the children.

"Because once you have a (criminal) record, you're not supposed to be in the school," he said. "They could have asked her to stay in the car, and have someone escort her kids into the school, and not to bring her dog. And it's not her fault, it's (the school's) fault."

Maraj said he started discussing Homolka's presence with other parents in April, and on May 2, he received a letter that he would not be welcomed back in September.

Stéphanie Deligne, whose daughter attends Grade 4 at the school and is in a class with one of Homolka's children, said she would have liked to have been informed about the situation.

"It's really unacceptable," Deligne said. "My daughter was playing with the dog of Karla Homolka, and I was right next to her, but I didn't know who she was."

After she raised her concerns, Deligne said she was told she will have to find another school in September.

Normally I would say that if a person has served their time, they should be reintegrated.. but the circumstances around this person are abnormal. She should still be in prison.

I would be incensed if my kids went to this school.

Whenever I got my current job I had do a bunch of background clearances because I may come in contact with children.

Treating worried parents like they are in the wrong because a serial killer is a volunteer? That is so fucked up. What the fuck is still school doing?

Or maybe just don't have her work around children. She could be rehabilitated, but still, she shouldn't be placed in situations like this.

Here's the challenge... where I have trouble.

Do we ever want to allow murderers to live normal lives? To be redeemed, or absolved in any way of their crime? Because if not, why not just keep them in prison forever? Why not just kill them? This woman has kids, she takes them to school and wants to be a part of their lives, like a lot of mothers do.

...

Should that not be allowed? I guess I might be in the extreme here, but I believe very very strongly in a rehabilitation focused criminal justice system. One where once you've 'done your time', have had therapy, and are allowed and encouraged to reintegrate into society and do good, redeeming things.

I believe in rehabilitation as well. That being said, our prison system isn't really built around rehabilitation like Norway's system.

I also think that precautions are worthwhile. I don't care if she is a complete and utter angel now, the parents of these children still deserve to feel uncomfortable and question the decision-making of the school. Karla Homolka wanting to be part of her children's lives does not have priority over every other child and parent involved with this school.

She knowingly lied about her involvement/participation in the abduction, drugging, rape and murder of three girls, one of them being her own sister.

She should not be anywhere near kids!

By removing the say of other parents if they want their kids exposed to a serial killer?

This woman drugged and murdered her own sister, doubt she will give a damn about anyone else's kids

Between this crazy bitch, the crazy fucking teacher inviting her there and the fucking school trying to play it off as no big deal...

Canada needs to get that shit straightened out - this is a fucking travesty.

I'm down for rehabilitation in most cases, but with the foul shit she participated in she shouldn't be near children, hell she shouldn't be near other humans. Even if you were to ignore everything else, she allowed and assisted in the rape and murder of her own sister.

She selected her own sister to be raped and murdered. Then raped a teenage girl with her husband, tortured her, filmed her husband piss and shit on her before cutting her into pieces. Then did that all over again.

Paul Bernardo himself said she was worse than him. She got away with it because they found the snuff shit they filmed themselves doing AFTER she lied to investigators that she was just an unwilling victim. Psychologists here have said over and over and that's she's a brutal psychopath that's a threat to everyone, but because of the deal they gave her before they knew she was a killer herself, nothing could be done.

If you think Homolka is rehabilitated, you are a fool that's being played just like these investigators were.

Yeah, I have never heard of this woman so I just looked up the details of her crimes and holy fuck. The crimes she committed were absolutely atrocious. There is no grounds for this woman to be allowed near a school or even children. I mean what the fuck, seriously?

Sorry, no. Not for this monster. Struggle no more, she's a devil.

Isnt it an error of the system that she's free now? Afaik was she convicted of manslaughter before the police found the evidence that she was an active participant in the murders and coverup. But because of double jeopardy she only had to sit off the time for the manslaughter.

At the end of the day, it's a private school, so it's their call, no matter how bonkers it is.

Yeah, I'm entirely aware of her crime - but I'm also aware the end goal of the criminal justice system is to reintegrate all criminals back into society.

Well the parents can protest, or whatever - but there is no obligation by the government, the school or anyone in authority to remove this woman from teaching kids how to knit, or from taking her kids to school.

I think if anything, encouraging normalcy, encouraging a healthy system of behaviours is the absolute right thing to do.

I actually think I remember something about that, this might be the case. I wonder if she's under surveillance?

WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SCHOOL DOING

Holy shit

Sure, she served her sentence, and her kids have a right to a normal life and education, but that doesn't mean she should a) be allowed to volunteer at an elementary school and b) psychopaths can't really be rehabilitated anyway.

Also, this case is peculiar because she should have never been released to begin with; the trial missed key evidence that showed her to be a full participant, not just a domestic abuse victim as reluctant accomplice (like she portrayed herself), so she got a lighter sentence than she was meant to have.

So the rights of a serial killer supersede the rights of other parents?

HOLY SHIT it's this woman? I remember seeing her on an episode of Autopsy with Michael Baden.

Didn't her and her husband kill her sister too?

She's actively involving herself in the lives of minors after raping and murdering teenagers. This isn't living a private life. People have a right to be outraged that this was allowed.

So the rights of a serial killer supersede the rights of parents?

Unless you can definitely prove that she is a clear and present danger to any of the children there, nobody's rights is being superseded by anyone. Again, this is a private school, so it's their call.

But make no mistake, this woman should be serving a life sentence.

She was not an accomplice. She was an active participant. They found the snuff films they made AFTER they offered her a deal, which is why she is out of prison.

This. Absolutely drives me mad when people pretend she actively didn't torture or murder those kids, even her own younger sister. She just got a WAY too lenient deal to help build a case against Paul Bernardo. She relished in the abuse and torture and murder, even if she was groomed by Paul or abused herself, which is what she claimed. She is just as much of a murderer as he was.

What rights of the parents are being impinged upon?

Why do you ignore the fact that's been stated over and over. She is NOT rehabilitated. She is free because she was offered a plea deal before it was found out she was a serial killer herself.

Prison psychologists here have said OVER and OVER that she is not repentant, and is extremely dangerous and will probably kill again.

And yet you fucking ignore this. Her first boyfriend out of prison was a fucking murderer too. She was looking for an accomplice again! This shit was HUGE over here. And here you are ignoring EVERYTHING to support your point.

What rights of the parents are being impinged upon?

Right of parents to have kids in a safe environment with trustworthy adults.
