Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today revealed plans to establish a new Los Angeles-based Mobile and Interactive Division to expand its presence in the mobile entertainment industry. Headed by Midori Yuasa, general manager and senior vice president, the new division plans to release more than 10 titles in North America from the extensive library of Capcom products. In the coming year, consumers will be able to play classic Capcom favorites such as 1942, Ghosts ‘n Goblins, Mega Man and Resident Evil anywhere they like.

Capcom began exploring the mobile world in 1999 in Japan, making them one of the first companies to start developing mobile strategies. Capcom is currently working with major operators, handset manufacturers and mobile network equipment manufacturers worldwide to secure compelling game content.

“We are excited about this new endeavor and are looking forward to bringing our expertise to the mobile landscape,” said Yuasa. “Our main objective is to establish Capcom’s new division and provide unique game play integration between wireless, online and console sectors. Our new facility in Los Angeles will house all of our mobile and interactive media offerings and we are looking to make our mark in the mobile entertainment industry.”

Joining Yuasa’s team is Stuart Platt, studio and deployment director. Platt comes to Capcom from THQ Wireless where he held the position of director of product development. He began his career in wireless entertainment in 2000 at a wireless carrier company in Toronto, Canada. Initially Platt was responsible for games and entertainment applications, and later helped launch the carrier's successful wireless Internet service.

Stuff includes Phoenix Wright, RE: The Missions, Puzzle Fighter II, and Lost Planet (O_O) among others.

(WTF)

There's screens in that link, too...:D

edit: and that's the list of phones from one of the pr's, not all of 'em. dunno if there's any that works on one and not the other.

I fail to realize how gaming on the mobile is appealing at all?

I tried playing a few games on my cell (this moto GP game by THQ) and it was the worst shit ever. WTF, I'd rather call random people instead to kill time.

IMO, the only thing that works with mobile gaming is stuff like Pheonix Wright, Tetris, Brain Training esque games.

Knowing Capcom, they'll put Devil May Cry 3 on mobile and keep the difficulty the same as the PS2 versions...Try pulling off Stinger to Million Stab to Devil Trigger Explosion on a cell :lol

Umm, what provider do I need to use those phones? I'm COMPLETELY out of the loop when it comes to cell phones.

Also, at Circuit City I once saw a sort of "case" for a cell phone to make it play more like a standard handheld system. Is it compatable with any of these phones?

My phone is on that list! Phoenix Wright for me! :D

Hmm maybe I can sell off my DS now. ;)

My phone is on the list too, but I'm moving to Japan soon, so I'm changing phones. D:

OK, another question. That list has 7000 and 8000. Would that be LG VX7000 and 8000. My mom has the 7000, and I could possibly switch with her.

re looks pretty good

i'd like to go back in time to 1993 with SF2 on a cell phone just to see all the punks in the arcade shit themselves.
man I shat myself over sf2 on game boy, I can't imagine!!

The Blue Bomber hits cell phones in this port of the first Mega Man game. Not only does it look like an almost perfect port (although that screen cropping is again a concern), the inclusions of infinite lives and four control schemes to help players of every skill level find their Mega Man groove—improvements that have been a long time in coming.

Matlock, if you wrote that the inclusion of infinite lives in the original Mega Man is an "improvement that has been a long time in coming", you should be kicked in the throat.

Puzzle Fighter on my cell phone? Oh dear lord, bring it on!

Now here's hoping my carrier (US Cellular) actually offers Capcom's games.

Street Fighter 2? Wow, that's... going to be hell, most likely.

I have SF2 on my phone (I would assume they're just going to port all the Japanese cell phone games over, so it should be the same), and it's not as bad as you'd think, but only has two attack buttons. Doing moves is surprisingly easy, and the characters have all their special moves and voice samples.

Some of the 3D cell phone games I've played are surprisingly good and look very impressive. I have games like Xi (Devil Dice) that look and feel very close to the console versions.

Update: I took the list of phones to a Verizon kiosk at Circuit City today. Here's the list of those phones that you can get with Verizon.

KX1, V265, V276, 4700, V65p, 8600, 4650, 4500, A650, A670, N330, A850, 6100, 5200, 8615, PN215, 8910, V710, 7000, 8000, 8940, 8945, 890, 8100, e815, 950, 970, A790, A795, 4400, 9800(V), KX2, 6256i, SE47, KX444, KX414, A680

You'd also go back to tell Jordan not to retire right?

the expansion of capcom mobile is the worst thing to ever happen to capcom.

But I do undestand if I had to commute 60 minutes on a subway it would be nice to play some games, however they should put them on a portable game system, eh i have to fess up, I'm mainly bitter about Phoenix Write. I actually probably wouldn't be as bitter if my phone was on the list.

I have an interview with the head of capcom mobile Monday. I will make her spill the Pheonix Wright mobile-exclusive chapter beans :D
