Capcom Remains The King Of Scummy Microtransactions

You get a free one, plus it's purely cosmetic. IDK about Wilds but you can easily play through World without even realizing that the game has the option to buy stuff. It's not exactly in your face.

There are way worse examples.

I think Middle Earth: Shadow of War's original-release microtransactions were among the most egregioius.

In the single-player campaign, you could pay to buy the in-game currency to unlock Orcs and army upgrades to attack and defend fortresses, speeding up the grindy last act of the game.

It was so egregious that they patched the microtransactions out completely a year after release.

Oh, and Monolith is closed now.

CoD, every professional sports game, Minecraft Bedrock, Destiny 2
Those games are kept alive by that stuff. If they dropped them those games would get stale fast. In contrast, this game is largely standalone. Any free seasonal rewards are absolute rubbish.

P.S. The post above yours is a good example though.

isn't most that stuff cosmetic? I haven't played COD in a LONG time, but I thought all the purchases were cosmetic

the article I listed in the OP starts off by providing examples of where Capcom sells stuff that isn't cosmetic (strong weapons in Devil May Cry, portcrystals in Dragons Dogma 2, etc)

but even for cosmetic stuff, its insane you're defending them charging you money to change how your character looks AFTER you spend $70 to purchase the game

CoD has cosmetic and mechanic transactions, and they shove it down your throat on the home screen like a f2p game.

I didn't read the article because the headline and subheading it decided to present were so dumb.

Many games don't give you any option to change your character's appearance. Wilds gives you a second chance and then charges an idiot tax for people who fucked up twice and are willing to pay to change something so insignificant, rather than restart. Should it be free? Yeah, that'd be nice, but it doesn't crown Capcom the king of mt scum.

And I didn't pay 70 dollars for it, I payed 50, from a site that probably didn't compensate Capcom for that purchase. Just like a lot of other people. So I can't blame them for trying to recoup their losses in such an immaterial way.

Its shitty but it just character creation which something I do once and never touch it again.....its not something it will effect my enjoyment of the game.

COD was alive well before MTX bullshit started. Need to sell turtle skins for large bucks to "stay alive"? Not to mention many skins, even few weapons, were pay to win.Fuck that bullshit.

Any person giving free pass to COD for its MTX should never criticize other companies regarding MTX.

How are sites selling illicit keys? Or what exactly are you talking about here?

I don't even play Call of Duty. Professional sports games are not played on a screen.

Many of the key sellers us keys obtained under false premises or keys bought in bulk from regions where they are dirt cheap.

I would never assume a key from a non-official retailer was obtained in good faith. Especially the ones that act like ebay/amazon, a storefront that pairs you with third party sellers.

Although looking at MHW specifically, I guess I purchased it from Gamerthor, which is apparently an official reseller. So I'll take back what I said about Capcom getting shafted on that one. Don't know how they're able to offer such a deep discount before the game even released.

As I said in the first thread about this, I'd like to know how many you get in game so that I have a better idea where this is on the spectrum of neutral to bad.

Regardless, I love that there's already a mod for it

Not in a world where FIFA and NBA 2K exist.
EA, 2K and other evil corpos are much smarter about it, because they get you engaged in gambling and spending more money if you have no self control. Capcom is an easier target for their scummy behavior, because it's charging people for basic features that should be free in any other game from that genre.

So many people are saying this

But is there actual proof?

I've purchased over 750 keys from various sites and never had a single issue with Steam.
