Capcom Retro Game Collections :(

I'm surprised this hasn't gotten any attention around here, considering how much hype it was getting in two past threads.

The news: A rerelease of Capcom Generations... for the PSOne:[

Capcom has finally lifted the lid on its plans to fully exploit its spectacular back catalogue of software, revealing two medley titles for the PSOne.

Two titles will be offered, at first exclusive to the Japanese market. One disc will see Ghosts & Goblins, Ghouls n' Ghosts and Super Ghouls n' Ghosts - spooky platform fun at its finest. The second will be an up-shooter medley comprising 1942, 1943, 1943 Gaiden.

Is there any problem with it being on PSOne? Last time I checked, none of those games needed PS2's power or anything to be fully enjoyed.

Wait a second...

I thought the Capcom gamer day/summit/fancy-name-for-a-press-conference revealed that there were to be about 20 games in the upcoming Capcom collection.

If that was true, then this can't be the same thing.

Or it's Spong.

No, there's nothing wrong with these being on PS1. This is a cheap way for Capcom to make a little money - the collection is already done, they're just reprinting it. It happens periodically in multiple industries.

It's likely these new releases will actually be worse, graphically -- odds are they'll run in high-res interlaced mode. That's bad, since these are low-res games. It'll introduce refresh flicker and general fuzziness, just like in MMAC and countless other careless releases.

Heh Was just playing Capcom Gen. 2 for the Saturn last night. Of the 3, the Genesis Ghouls n Ghosts was the most playable--meaning, tough but not overly frustrating. That, and it looks the best out of the 3 since it's full screen. Super G&G has borders, which I think the PS1 version didn't. It's amazing how well these game have held up through the years, btw.

Yeah, the PSone Super G&G is like the SNES verison (no borders), but Ghouls & Ghost on the PSone has very dark backgrounds (unlike the Saturn version, which looks perfect). I had to fiddle with the contrast and brightness to make them visible. The funny thing is that the other 2 games backgrounds in the collection are fine.

Man there's many stores that won't borrow the game because it's Psone game. Why not release it as a PS2 disk to get more show???????

The whole point of this is that it's a different distribution method for games. If I understand correctly, these are books that will be sold on magazine racks next to Famitsu for 2000 yen each, including a PS1 game disc inside as well as articles on the games.

If you don't have Capcom Generations these are actually not a bad deal. But they wouldn't fly in America. In all probability, Capcom will do something similar to MMAC -- whereas the six MegaMan games were released on seperate PS1 discs in Japan, they'll be put onto a single PS2/GC/Xbox collection in the US.

That could be the worst post in the history of this forum.

Yeah, I think this is what Capcom will do.
