Capcom's Cannon Spike

psikyo's cannon spike. capcom just published. and the red star -- if it ever comes out -- expands really successfully on cannon spike's ideas.

I loved the brevity of the levels in this game. It was so easy to get non-hardcore gamers to play along with me because it was never too intimidating. I doubt we'll ever get a sequel though... I think it was a CapBomb.

I loved the style and feel of Canon Spike but always though it failed to live up to its potential to be this generation's Smash T.V.

As I was playing it I just imagined it'd be incredible with branching paths in three direction from each "arena", giving a larger variety of stage routes and encouraging replay to see new stuff. It might have been fun if you began with only two characters available and unlocked the others by visiting the right area along a particular right, and maybe beating a specific goal for that room - like a high score, etc.

Neo Contra > Cannon Spike

Zero Gunner 1 and 2 are better, too, for that matter. I didn't like the limited lock-on time, and the controls felt like they could have used more polish in general. I'll be damned if I didn't convince myself I loved it when it came out, though.

Red Star is still alive though still looking for a publisher last I heard. I think someone else on this board that shall remain nameless till he chooses to reveal himself knows far more on this than I...

Canon Spike is probably the game I've played most on my DC. Great characters, great action, great gameplay, and a faithful arcade translation.

Zero Gunner(1/2) is pretty high up that list also - as is Ikaruga.

I would die and go to heaven if more smash-tv styled games came out.

As for Red Star.. there was a demo disc a while back that I tried, and it was borrrrring... maybe they have some improvements, but yeesh... no game there aside from the controls.
