Carmageddon: Rogue Shift Announced for PS5, PC, Switch 2 & Xbox Series

Take a look at the Launch Trailer for Carmageddon: Rogue Shift, an action vehicular combat roguelite game developed by 34BigThings. Players will engage in all-out mayhem on the track to take out enemy vehicles, complete challenges, and unlock new content to continue the carnage. Make use of a variety of weapons, upgrade vehicles, and defeat bosses in Carmageddon: Rogue Shift, launching on February 6 for PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store).

Zombies? Bah.

The originals showed some edgy humor with actual (but comically overdrawn) people.
Even the 2016 (somewhat ill-fated) entry went for that.

This one looks lame and downright censored in comparison right out of the gate.

I'd be down for a good roguelite Carmageddon-style game. But that unnecessary self-censorship just kills most of my interest.
Idk, guess if it gets some raving reviews, but I very much doubt it.

What's interesting is that Carmageddon 2 was censored in various countries outside of the US to show zombies and they had green blood. The developer of Rogue Shift is in Italy, so, maybe what they're making is more "accurate" to the Carmageddon they knew, lol.

Really though, I don't know why they'd go that route. I mean, the game is rated M, might as well go all the way to make it more like the originals.

I don't think it looks like a terrible game, really.
Bit more on the budget side, and certainly twice as expensive as it should be:

But other than the name and the likeness of the cars, I see 0 Carmageddon in this.
The humor is just mostly gone.
What a shame.

Carmageddon also always had so many things you could do - it was much more than just arcade racing. Exploration, challenges, secrets, etc.
This has exactly one gameplay loop and that's it.
Also looks piss easy, but that might just be a "first run difficulty".
I'm almost certain I'd get bored 3-4 hours in.

The devs can repeat the "it's a spinoff, bro!" as much as they want: A game with "Carmageddon" in the name will come with expectations.
And this game just doesn't seem to meet these.

Maybe this should've been a new Death Race game... but even then zombies would look weird instead of... uh, convicts?

Day 1!! I thought the last game max damage was fun, unlike the critics.

We need more arcade and sim racers on console. Especially if they are traditional single player/multiplayer and not gaas.
I like that I can still plug in my ps2 (or series x ) and play an old burnout or gt game. Meanwhile these gaas games will be gone in a few years.

Yeaaaaah, definitely a case of, "this could've/should've been its own IP/game" but for whatever reason they thought the Carmageddon IP would take it further I suppose. From what I've seen it has its moments, which seem pretty neat. But definitely more in the "wait for a sale" territory.

Cannot recommend this game, even on a sale really. It's boring as hell, the handling is sloppy, the perks are good but feel like they should kind of be permanent unlocks. I dunno, seems like a cashgrab that's not gonna grab any cash.

Ouch, not even one Concord worth of players so far.

I didn't even realise it came out? The more I read about it the more I'm put off tbh. Why zombies? I'll wait for a deep sale I think

I'm happy the team managed to burn Saudi oil money to gain some game dev and release experience, but it's a shame it was at the expense of this franchise.
An actual decent new Carmageddon game would've been amazing.

It sits at 47% now.
I think this will average out somewhere between 50-60% in the long run.

At least if they patch it up and slashed the price in half, because it could be a "meh" car roguelite for a few hours of fun.

I hate to see it flop, since devs are from my city too, but I'm watching some gameplay and I really don't see the appeal. Why don't make a classic Carmageddon instead of this roguelite?

I like the roguelite idea, but:

Why not make it like a Carmageddon-styled Pacific Drive?
Open world structure, mission & exploration based, upgrade your vehicle(s) over time.
Could be great.

But this is just roguelite racing with guns 🤷‍♂️

Wait, Saudis were involved in this project? The studio doesn't have the worst track record - they release several Redout games.

I watched most of the video and noticed that this is just Full Auto 2, but slower.

I made the assumption because 34BigThings is owned by Embracer Group where Savvy (Saudis) has a huge stake in. Also because the Saudis suck at quality control.
