Castlevania Chronicles revisited

I spotted this game in my shelves and took it out for a spin. I never did get past that damn level 20, Death keeps killing me, and being thrown all the way back through the level to try again tries my weakass patience. Anyway, some thoughts.

How the HECK did this get away with a 12+ rating (dunno about the US one)? Level 20 is filled with naked dismembered bodies hanging around (literally), and the entire place just makes me uncomfortable. Definitely the sickest Castlevania.

About the video of Iga, it's a sad (although understandable) thing that this game didn't sell at all. Clearly he was planning a remake of Rondo or possibly Dracula's Curse. I wonder if one of them is considered for the portables. Then again Dawn didn't sell too well either ;(

I wonder about that new game he was talking about. Must have been Lament, right? Or was it Harmony? The video was made 2001-ish.

Also, I'd like to see another remake of Castlevania 1 and Simon's Quest, not just with red hair added on Simon but with the gameplay mechanics of Julius Mode. It's so much fun controlling the modern Belmonts (Richter and Julius) compared to Simon and Trevor. With all those games laying around (and several tile sets already finished, like the beginning area of CV1 in Dawn), it should be easier than a brand new Castlevania. A Zero Mission style remake would be amazing.

Heck, anything, just give me more (2D) Castlevania.

If it's along the lines of the game in question here, yes, QFT. No need for another gimped and piss easy adventure style Castlevania (though I'll take 'em when they come around).

I actually played this game not too long ago and found my old save file was still on the Clock Tower level so I continued from there. A half hour later I finally (barely) owned the female lycanthrope. From then on it was smooth sailing (sort of). The day after I played from the beginning and managed to beat the entire game (took two days of on and off play but regardless). Then for sh*ts and giggles I played remix mode and breezed through that without losing a life. Too easy especially coming off of a hell a lot more unforgiving original mode.

Really, this type of Castlevania gameplay needs to return. I need my Belmont with flatfeet and back problems back. Hell, even a Simon's Quest remake (but with a bunch of sh*t tossed in) if they have to, just as long as the game is unforgiving and the Belmont moves like an old lady without her walker.

And the game was rated T in North America.

Indeed. I've often thought about what a refined remake of the original would be like, and when Zero Mission came out, I was like, "Yup, that needs to happen for a LOT of games."

I have little tolerance for the continual repackaging of old games *cough*Namco Museum*cough*, but when a company does it right, enhancing the original, updating it to modern-day standards, and not mucking it up (unlike the crap Sega 3D Ages titles on the PS2), the results can be amazing.

They would definitely have to tone down the difficulty. My God, IIRC, those last two stages were literally Hell on Earth. The controller was thrown (many, many times), and I certainly let loose a tapestry of expletives that would more than make up for my bouts with those retro Mario Sunshine levels. :lol
