Developer Interview added!

This is a MUST-DOWNLOAD not because anyone wants to see Iga's face or hear a dubbed interview with no new info, but because it has NEW footage, and shows off a few more souls (awesome animations) as well as how the top screen actually works. When the top screen is displaying the inventory/menu thing, there's an enemy info display there which changes on the fly depending on what enemy you last hit. So awesome! :D :D

I pray to the gods themselves that more developers use the DS like this rather than attempt to shoehorn "popular" 3D console-type games onto the DS hardware.
 
But isn't it supposed to be all about graphics, gigapixels, anti-aliasing, blurry textures and lazy portable ports?

oh wait, i think i just dissed the n64, psp, gba and ds in that one line. I'm doomed. [/joke]

Anyways, yes, I do hope 2-D remains alive. It's just such a magnificent legacy to give up. Playing Minish Cap confirmed to me the industry needs to keep the high watermark, craftmanlike 2-D games alive. It's truly a work of art to look at the beatiful backgrounds, and settings of these 2-D games.

ok i'm a bit drunk so i'll mention that tonight iga told me that black hat was influenced by van helsing =)

also people who are freaking out about the character art GET A FUCKING GRIP. it's not ayami kojima but it's fucking fine. it's like, solid and competent and adequate and more importantly as novery pointed out TOTALLY FUCKING IRRELEVANT. it's been changed to an anime style on DS cos KCET thinks DS is teh kiddy and teh kiddies like anime, not kojima ayami's hot hot hot hot hot shit.
 
Nice looking but man the art is pretty awful. I'm pretty tolerant of anime styles but even *I* find that generic and horrible.
 
Maybe they should allow you to make your own status screen art with touchpad and stylus!


(Soma would probably look like a giant penis for most folks up close, then)
 
meh, this doesn't look very good to me. but i never could get into any of these anyhow. congrats to all the fans getting an apparently good sequel you all want to play though. i mean, if you like this or whatever.

Good stuff. We already knew about the multiplayer possibility from EGM, but I'm glad they're still considering it, and there are more details now.
 
You know, seeing Castlevania on the DS just makes me sad there's no 2D Metroid coming. We've seen a 2D Castlevania of above GBA/SNES quality before with SOTN, but we never have with Metroid, and I'd love to see what they could do.

Fucking Metroid Prime: Hunters.
 
I'm not counting it out, we have a 2D Mario coming and Zelda is reportedly going to be a Four Swords so that's 2D too, but I'd feel better if there were rumours of one or even just someone saying that a 3D Metroid on the DS doesn't signal the end of 2D versions.

Just as long as I'm not left waiting 10 years for a new 2D Metroid like we have been for Mario.
 
I bet it will be GREAT to have that map there full time if you want, and yeah, if not, it will be much easier to change soul weapons, check monster stats, have the boss stats on the top while you are fighting that particular boss, etc.

It's Nintendo, but it's not wasting Nintendo resources in the sense that valuable creators are being diverted away from other things to do it.
 
Looks great. I'll definitely be getting a DS for this

Unlike other games in which using the second screen for a map seems like a cheap afterthought, in Castlevania a constant map is going to be most welcome

heh, what i meant was... even though the game really doesn't seem to be my cup of tea, i am happy for fans of this to get what they think will be a great sequel (judging from the excitement of some of the early posts in the thread). i didn't mean anything negative, even though someone may have thought that from my lack of excitement. so when i said it was meh to me, i wanted to be sure nobody took it the wrong way.

in other words, i was trying to voice my true opinion but at the same time not be an ass about it. course, I also just didn't want anyone mad at me i guess. ;) that could be odd, as you say though. heh, not sure.

In your first post I thought I detected a hint of snarkiness, an attempt to jab at the game without seeming to. I think I'm not the only one. It probably would have been easier staying out of the thread entirely, but thanks for the clarification. :)
