CBS Interactive (GameSpot parent company) buys Giant Bomb

Like I said in the other thread:

I didn't say this is the perfect outcome, but in a reality where they need cash, they seem pretty happy about going back to CBS.

I think you guys are projecting your own disappointment on them.

I think this sounds like they're reasonably happy with the situation. Maybe things will go tits up, but for the meantime I'm feeling okay about it.

have you ever had a job in your entire life?

He was their EIC for like 10 years before they fired him, rofl.

This is a business, this was either going to be the eventual outcome or the whiskey sites would go under. They were never going remain themselves.

I feel most of the outrage comes from the fact that its CBS...

Giantbomb will continue to be great, and will make me go back to Gamespot (though the work John has done does look good). I worry about Tested and the like though.

PS: Yeah I can't wait to see them on Gamespot's virtual set.

Yup, day/week/month/??? fucking ruined.

Ever since 2008 I've pretty much been waiting for something like this to happen. There was just no way something as awesome as GB could last for too long.

This is fucked up

2012 is a shitty year

And it will only get worse.

Congrats to Whiskey for quite literally hitting it big. Tested + Mythbusters and Giantbomb + CBS

Jesus, that really is some successful recognition if there is any.

This is the absolute worst nightmare scenario in my mind for Giant Bomb right here. The only reason the site exists is because of CBS's douchebaggery. I'm just... wow... they're the last people I thought they'd go to. Still, I wish them all the best and I'll continue to use the site for what it does best, provided nothing gets worse.

Though the Tested.com news is totally fucking awesome! It's just a shame that Giant Bomb never joined them for the ride. :(

I think Alex Narravo on twitter put it the right way.

@Alex_Navarro Also worth mentioning that the regime at CBS is very different than when we all left. It's not like we're going back to an abusive lover.

It's more like we're going back to the bar where we met the abusive lover, but there are brand new, kind people we're sleeping with now.

I don't like this at all, I enjoyed the more "adult" side of giantbomb, And if they are gonna lose that I Am gonna be unhappy.

But.. There are a few people that ARE still at gamespot, That i Think willl enjoy jeff being back. (Kevin VanOrd to be one specific)

How were the subscription numbers for them? So good that CBS couldn't refuse putting an offer in, or so horrible that the owner was itching to sell it off?

Shitty news overall.
