Seems like Claire Holt is one of the people who has tested for the role

The CBS gonna CW?

Supergirl recently got a new, more armored look. No idea if it's permanent, but I wonder if the show could take some cues from it.

Titans can be set anywhere; they've never had a set city. It would be cool to see them use Jump City from the old cartoon.

the last Teen Titan group before Nu52 was in San Francisco.

She would make an excellent Supergirl. It would also be a logic choice, Berlanti has connections with Julie Plec and other people at CW who could tell Berlanti all he needs to know about Holt as an actress. And a lead on a CBS show would be a good reason for her to move to Canada, even if she left The Originals due to the location.

So, Holt is good then?

If this does cross over with CW, I guess she essentially takes the place of Wonder Woman, if Arrow and Flash are basically Batman and Superhero analogs (cynical human hero versus idealistic superpowered hero). I guess that makes Supergirl, what, pragmatic superpowered hero?

she always seemed a bit older on VD/TO, but shes charismatic at least. And easy on the eyes, but...you know...its the CW, who isnt.

So doing my Google searching for "Claire Holt", and....

If she ever said that line to Barry or Oliver, I would fucking spit my drink all over the screen. It'd be awesome if Supergirl was an acerbic snark compared to Oliver's "Bruce Wayne" brooding and Barry "Peter Parker" idealism.

She has an accent, which is odd, but I don't know if it's her actual accent.

Otherwise, good choice.

Looks like I need to finally give in and watch Vampire Diaries
Yes. You should endure the first couple of Twilight-esque episodes. It changes to a different show after it. It is mainly the 'evil' characters that you'll enjoy. Switch to The Originals after season 4 of The Vampire Diaries if you mainly like the Mikaelson family.

This is a ridiculous response. If she lives in the US, then she'd have an American accent. If she lives in Australia, then she'd have an Australian accent.
I'm not a comic reader, but isn't Supergirl already older when she lands on Earth? Superman was a baby,

Well..then I guess every non-american actress that's living in USA right now has american accent? Problem solved then. ;)

Seriously though, if she came to Earth as a teenager it's likely she would still have some accent as a early 20s girl.
Heck, look at Arnold. Dude's been in USA for like four decades and you can still hear his accept clearly.

It really doesn't matter that she was raised on Krypton as Kryptonians have never been shown to have any non-American accent afaik, so for Kara to have one would be odd. Unless they're going to make her back story one of being adopted by an Australian family within the US or being raised in Australia specifically to allow her to use her normal accent, it doesn't really work. And seeing as how they're casting her adoptive sister for a main role, that would mean they'd have to have two leads with Aussie accents as well as whoever gets cast as her family having an accent as well. That's a whole lot of effort simply to allow an actress to use their natural tone.

Didn;t Russel Crowe had one though in Man of Steel? :)

I think it would be a lot weirder if she would have perfect american accent to be honest. An alien who spent half of her life on other planet shouldn't talk like a natural born american. There should be at least some traces of foreign tongue left

Just as superman is handsome, Supergirl is beautiful.

Superman already is balding though, so we can forget about this perfect specimen nonsense ;)

But I won't lie.. if I would have to cast Supergirl from CW pool I think Candice Accola would be a better choice.

But then we can't have Steroline. She also seems more like a Power Girl than a Supergirl.

So no reason to believe she'd have an American accent. You just call the Australian accent an alien accent, problem solved.

Wasn't that for the simulation and like half the comic only though? She lost the armor right afterward when the headmistress talked to her IIRC.

I don't recall Crowe's accent in MoS, but he has a passable American accent in his repertoire.

I don't understand your point here at all really. There is no Kryptonian accent. The odds of their accent sounding Australian would be astronomical. If you were going to give her an accent, it would have to be unique. That's not possible though. So given it's a US show that takes place in the US, her having an American accent is both more likely and makes more sense (since she would try to adapt to those around her)

So no reason to believe she'd have an American accent. You just call the Australian accent an alien accent, problem solved.

As I said earlier, not likely a Kryptonian accent would be like any on Earth. And having an accent that the viewers know is Aussie but having the characters acknowledge as "alien" is pointless and can be confusing.

With no actual Kryptonian accent to source there two best choices are have her use an American accent or give an explaination that explains the Aussie one. Aussie would be easier for her but harder for production.

I wonder if they'll be able to showcase her speed, flight, and fighting as well as MOS did. I loved how they did that in MOS:

Very kinetic. How the hell are they gonna do this on a TV budget though. You could tell Smallville was fucking stretching it.
Honestly, I'm not expecting more than Smallville. Obviously a bit better because tech has improved, but nothing that comes close to the movie.

It is fine if it just doesn't sound like perfect American English. It would make a more exotic form of English like Australian very fitting. She learned to grasp the English language, but she can't quite pronounce it correctly. They don't need to explain, they also didn't explain why Arrow sounds Canadian or why an Australian accent sounds just old enough to be a believe 1000 year old vampire origaniting from Europe. And it is not like an Australian playing a godlike superhero would be so unbelievable, The audience can stand Hemsworth as Thor without an American accent.

I've never seen this actress. How Australian is her accent on a scale from mild - 'oy ollie give us a lighter mate'
It is mild. It is kinda a cute version of British English.

Amell's pronunciation is much harder to discern than an Australian accent. Were his accent more of a deeper Ontario or a Quebec accent, then there'd be a bigger issue. Toronto is so close to the States though that the accent isn't that different and if you're talking about Claire's accent in The Originals, I'm fairly certain she's intentionally trying to sound British, as that's the accent they gave the whole family.

I'm not sure why you bring up her nationality in comparison to Hemsworth's as that was never a point I made. What I'm saying is that I don't know if she can do a passable American accent (which she very well could) and if not, then they're going to need to explain it somehow. Because otherwise it will stick out to the viewers.

Because Hemsworth is an excellent example of people accepting an existing foreign accent as some otherwordly tongue. They don't need to do an American accent. And if she can't do a passing one, I'd prefer for her to stick to her original accent. Because we all know how she is supposed to sound, it would be weird to hear otherwise.

Hell, you don't even need to look at Hemsworth.

There were two Kryptonians in Man of Steel who had European accents. Nobody was like "why are they talking like that."

They were just aliens with accents.

That said - I think people would at least be thrown for a second that she was speaking with a non-american accent. But then at some point it would kick in that she's an alien, and they'd roll with it.

No way. Smallville was long time ago...even on CW they;ve improved like hell as seen in the Flash.
Of course nothing on TV will be able to match 200 mln movie, but CBS can put more money into their series than CW. The superpowers will look good. You can bet on that. Especially if they will be able to get the same CGI scripts/shaders/routines that the movie division is using for Superman.
