CBS Orders Supergirl Series

And they are doing magnificent job. :)

BTW, shaem this did not land on CW. I want larger Arrowverse.
I also want one more show in Arrowerse..but Supergirl? She's light hearted and very highpowered, her stories would resemble Flash's ones too much. Sine Arrow seems to brighten up since launch, but not fully it would propably be best to hit the darker end of a spectrum hard, with something like Azrael. Or introduce magical (not sure if NBC doesn't have monopoly on occult side of DC though)

It's on NBC, on a Friday night. The last Genre show to be put in it's timeslot (Dracula) was canceled. While it's not likely, I will be shocked if it gets more than one season. Of course we'll know more about it's future after it premieres.
Friday is pretty easy spot to survive on NBC for a genre show. Dracula just did really badly and was propably expensive as hell. I think Constantine will do a lot better, especially since it should retain Grimm's audience a lot better than anything else NBC did in last three years.

So I'm going to guess they can't use Superman, hopefully that just means Kara's the "sole survivor" of Krypton until Zod et al show up.

Heck, they may as well just adapt MOS for S1. Flashbacks to Kara landing on Earth mixed with Zod et al showing up in present leading to a free for all finale.

Constantine/Grimm/Hannibal will probably be a successful enough Friday night for NBC.

Interesting news. Kinda happy it's not gonna be related to Arrow/Flash cause I don't want magic and aliens to jump in.

Well I mean Kara exists in the MOSverse. There was a canon comic about it.

Sorry, I meant take the ideas of MOS and do their own version with Kara. Not connected to the film, but spread out over a season in a reworked take. It wouldn't be canon to MOS. But would work similarly to how Arrow used Batman Begins as a template for Arrow S1.

If some of the guys from Arrow are doing it, there's damned good potential here, so I'm definitely gonna keep an eye on it.

I think CW is working on two more superhero shows that may(?) cross over into the Arrowverse. There will be Hourman and The Avenger (which will have a female protagonist)

According to Deadline, The CW is currently developing a series based on the classic 1939 pulp magazine "The Avenger." This outing, however, will update the source material and plant it firmly in biopunk territory. Audiences will follow Alice Benson, a young woman who discovers that she has the genetically engineered ability to transform her facial appearance at will after her parents’ murder. Alice will go on to use her newfound powers to investigate their deaths, all while tracking down the reasons for why her body was altered in the first place. Plot details are scarce, and no word was given as to when the series will debut.

It’s interesting, though not entirely unexpected, to see studios picking up on the lure of biohacking in the zeitgeist, especially with science fiction becoming so dominant in recent years. The idea of becoming more than human, whether through technology or genetic enhancement, has already captured the imaginations of underground DIY cyborgs and former military leaders alike.

Meanwhile, the familiar biopunk themes of shadowy corporate intrigue, genetic enhancement, and human experimentation can be all be seen in such recent films as Prometheus, Splice, and even The Amazing Spider-Man. The CW's decision further validates the fact that audiences crave outsized sci-fi stories, and keeps pace with Fox's decision to develop their own android-filled crime drama Almost Human.

i have the most faith in gotham's writers even though the premise itself is not very good imo.

oh and daredevil too cuz i loved spartacus and they're racking up a great cast.

Kinda hoping it's just Supergirl and they don't reference or try to do any more than playful winks about Superman. What if she was basically Superman instead? I wanna see that.

Boo, I was hopeing it was The Crimson Avengers

Will Comet the Superhorse be there? Or the Legion of Super Heroes?

Oh shit. That'd be a great idea.

Supergirl, completely divorced from the idea that she's first and foremost "Superman's cousin," but is instead, occupying the same place in the universe that Superman usually does. She's not one of a few superpowered near-deities fighting crime - she's THE superhero of that universe.

The good thing with DC shows so far is that they seem keen on opening up a lot of different parts of their universe so there isn't a ton of overlap.

Like Supergirl would allow them to bring in monsters and aliens. Flash meta humans. Constantine magic and the likes.

Arrow benefits from no actual Batman show.

When people ask for female superheroes, I tend to doubt they're asking for distaff counterparts of male superheroes.

People keep telling me that Arrow is quite good, but I haven't seen that in it. I watched one or two episodes when it first aired, while at a friend's. I think he stopped watching it.

Every commercial I see, it screams CW to me. Then again, Supernatural did the same and I avoided it as an X-Files geek who thought it was a 12 year-old girl's copy with hunks instead of substance. I was wrong about it.

I'm just not that big into superheroes. They don't make me excited, outside of video games. The movies/comics are cool and all, but I can take or leave them most of the time. Give me a good drama instead.

True, but considering the male superhero in question is off-limits to the television universe, and the television universe is being considered separate from the film universe by WB, you now have an opportunity for Supergirl to essentially replace Superman as THE big superhero of this comics universe.

She would no longer be the distaff counterpart, she'd be the sole representation of Kryptonian champion of their adopted homeworld. No Superman, only Supergirl.

Arrow isn't perfect, and it won't be for everyone.
But it really depends on the two episodes you saw, I would have to imagine early in season 1.

Or with the Huntress.

Thread got locked, so i'll post it here.
Amber Heard should play Supergirl, it's pretty much perfect.

Amber Heard isn't a very good actor, though, and that's taking into account Superheroes aren't particularly taxing characters for an actor to portray.

Someone else has been suggesting an actress who's already on Arrow I think, which is also not a great call, being as they're already on Arrow. :)

I can see Supergirl connecting with Flash & Arrow. Or at least them nodding & winking at it if they dont' have permission to overtly cross the network streams.

Berlanti showrunning makes me feel a little steadier about quality of adaptation. So I'm free to now start worrying about the two things everyone immediately starts tripping over when a superhero adaptation is mentioned.

1) Who do they cast
2) what does the costume look like.

Saoirse Ronan to the rescue!

I kinda want Zatanna to get her TV show.

The one on Smallville was superb.

I imagine it will be a possible unknown that CBS could mold into a big star

Also probably won't have to look like a model since not on the CW

Well...that would be pretty hard to do them. Most of the older ones were in some way created as female counterparts.
Well, there is that history of course, but there is also the chance to play it differently. Of course, foregone conclusion because CBS probably would not have given a season commitment if they didn't already have something in progress to show.
