CDPR officially apologises for hiding the console versions and promises quick updates and refund option

Cool to see the gen end on a scam. But hey, they said "sorry".

They announced the next-gen version months before the release so I assume they've been working on them for a bit already. In fact, I wouldn't put it past the current-gen versions being such a shit show BECAUSE they pulled people off of those for the next-gen versions. I haven't picked up the game and never intended to at launch because they say ages ago: "Don't bother, better versions are already planned".

Nah, they announced the patch months before release because the next gen consoles were announced months before release lol
They didnt even have an estimative for the next gen patch, even before all this shitshow. It was always "sometime in 2021". So I doubt that they have been working on it for some time.

Seems like they've spent no time at all with optimization on consoles. You see other games launching with no next gen patch?

Xbox received semi support already with the Quality and Performance option, and PS5 with the 60 fps. Something that wasnt informed AT ALL by CDPR before launch.
So that was probably something that they've accomplished weeks before release.

My point was simply most AAA publishers do stuff like this and I'm not sure any have offered refunds for anyone like this.

That is false the most AAA publisher don't hide the consoles version until release. Even Control we knew about shitty performance on consoles 1 week previous to the release. They intentionally didn't send consoles keys to reviewers, claimed copyright content on YouTube to remove PS4 leaks. They even hided the framerate drops on PS4 pro, on the preview video they showed, they switched to PS5 gameplay just in the persecution scene where PS4 Pro framerate is tanking

Different argument. But some have hid what the game looks like entirely, nevermind on specific platforms.

If I was a base console owner I wouldn't take the refund. You have a free ticket to the next-gen console versions coming next year and you're gonna want that.

Good move, I asked for a refund on PSN and if it goes through will invest that money in Death Stranding and Star Wars Squadrons instead.

I bought the game on GOG in Russia (VPN) for roughly 22$ and play it via Geforce Now on my old ass PC and it runs really good this way. Everything on High with DLSS on Balanced and RTX on Medium. Can recommend for people with base consoles and old PC but fast Internet.

Refund is not really an option, when you pay vat and get refund, you receive only money you payed to Valve/MS/Sony. So in my case 21% less, so I really don't even think about refund. If you refund to the credits on store you receive full amount, tho. It's weird.

It will be cheaper next year when it inevitably goes on sale and the shelves are littered with used copies of the game.

Go out of their way to hide last gens versions because they know it will harm their PR push.......and then apologize?......I mean,I understand why they did it,but this is hardly what you would call a sincere apology is it.....actually feels like they are taking the piss tbh.

This is a step in the right direction.

But I would like them to provide a more detailed roadmap. They halted Gwent for half a year to revamp the card game behind the scenes with Project Homecoming. It seems to have worked. I think they might need something of that magnitude to regain the trust of a significant portion of gamers.

Their message needs an overhaul as well. Because they were at the very least ambiguous about what sets Cyberpunk apart from GTA, not just bugs, but the disparities and shortcomings seem more striking. A CEO misspeaking about how the game performs on consoles, a dev claiming delays were necessary to deliver a "10/10" game and another talking about how wonderful the AI was going to be, none of that helps either. Think before you open your mouths. If not, better shut your traps.

But It's clear a refund is not enough for some people. Some feel they have been wronged personally. A personal nerve has been touched and it will now take years of intense courtship to mend the relationship.

I, for one, am willing to give them another chance. To all the predictable comments about how CDPR will get away, how some people are blind apologists, how CDPR are worse liars than EA, etc., sure. If that's your take then ask for a full refund and never ever buy one of their games.

Simple.

The drama surrounding this game is really something else. I sold my preorder Xbox copy and PS4 copy yesterday after trying it on PC and not enjoying the game at all. Not even because of the bugs and glitches.

Nomad path, I'm just going around aimlessly meeting people. They fail at making me care about anything they tell me. I gave up on the "braindance" Judy section. What is the point of this? All these side jobs, side gigs one after the other?

Give me a purpose, a main objective, something. I played many open world and I've never felt so disengaged about what's going on. All of it is so fucking boring and also Jackie is annoying AF. "Hellooooo? V? YO! V?" As soon as I'm not near him or he calls to let me know he's leaving the mission. Fuck off already. I hope he dies soon.

I'll keep my GOG version but I'm done with this game for now.

This doesn't make any sense at all. Not all the base console owners have the money to buy the next-gen consoles.

The braindance thing with Judy isn't a side mission. You literally haven't reached the game's title screen.

What I learned most from following the game industry for long time is that some companies can get a free pass for anything they throw at you (CD project, Rockstar, Nintendo, Steam)

You forgot to mention Sony and especially ND.

What does steam get away with?

The whole braindance section was so underwhelming, I couldn't wait for it to be over and down with, it was like the longest tutorial ever. Boring as hell!

Yes, good post, this is the central point.

CD Projekt Red did not simply avoid talking about current gen versions, they actively prevented anyone from talking about it, try it ,or recording it, right up until they got the money.

This is not an error made in good faith. This is a marketing strategy precisely built on bad faith and misdirection.

I pity CDPR developers because they'll most probably not be able to even celebrate Christmas because of the bad faith acting if their management.

This is bad all around. "First of all" you lied knowing EXACTLY what you were doing, and why.

What do they do with the VAT? They steal it? If there is no product sold there is no VAT. Every refund must include the paid VAT as well.

Guys, I was just wondering, how on earth did they come up with a plan to release it in April of 2020? Back then, there was neither PS5 nor Xbox Series S/X around.
It was only base consoles and enhanced consoles. Even by December 2020 they couldn't make the game run in a serviceable manner on base consoles, now they're issuing a public apology, to boot.
I mean just to think April 2020... They should have delayed the game for next year, altogether.

Maybe they payed it to bank account earlier and also if they send the vat to the GOV, then I am not sure if GOV will send it back. I am just saying that refunding does not seems to be they way to go. I did not studied how refund work in EU, I just refunded few games and then I felt ripped off, if the vat refund came later, that I don't know.

I'm glad I could see from a mile away that the best way to play this game would be waiting a year.

Even if I had a beastly PC that could max it out today, it'd still be better to hold off. When the real next-gen console patch finally comes out forever from now, the PC version will be at its best too.

It doesn't excuse them hiding the state of the console versions, but if they accept the blow of zero-consequence refunds and put in the work to get this fixed ASAP, (without forcing the teams to work stupidly long hours, BTW), then I think this'll work out.

I assume CDPR will probably have to talk to Sony and MS to work out some kind of compensation for ensuring the refunds get processed? Because MS and Sony likely aren't happy.

This is a mixed bag honestly.... On the one hand, they respond and show a willingness to fix things and present a clear path for the next weeks/months to come. But on the other hand, they admitted that they lied and holly fuck am I supposed to wait 2 months or even more before I continue with my game I bought for full price?

I´m on base PS4 and have around 30 hours poured into the game. Patch 1.04 helped a lot and improved but the game is still a broken mess. I can live with downgrades but the crashing is still present and kills the joy. Driving still sucks and the framerate still tanks way too often... I really hope they can fix these things with the patch coming in the next 7 days. I don´t want to wait for these essential things for another 2 months...

Honestly they shoulda just delayed the console release, but the suits at top wouldn't like that.

Theres so much more to it than that. They have marketing deals in place. Fans who have already had enough of delays, the christmas period, invested third parties that wouldn't be happy if the game went on a rival platform first (PC) so they lost sales, employees who have been crunching for months, funds to recover, accountability to share holders.

Honestly it's a buggy RPG that's hugely ambitious. I cant find it in me to be angry like some people are. This will 100% be fixed and more so amazing content added on top. The review embargo was shitty though and I feel like offering refunds and an apology is fair enough. Hopefully everyone learns from it.

This is what happens when you get too big and pleasing your shareholders becomes your number one priority. This is the definition of a sell out. I mean this is nothing specials and happens all the time.

But the difference here is that CDPR intentionally presented itself as "the good guys" for quite some time. All that talk about "it is ready when it´s ready" and "we don´t do all that bullshit like the others" was nothing more than stupid PR talk. If you put yourself in this position, you better deliver. Sucks it turned out this way. I was really rooting for that studio...

"Sorry we got caught, we hoped you would be so hyped to make excuses up for us for long enough to have us fix it with patches"...

Who could have thought crunch could produce a buggy game when management was trying to rush a holidays release showing as much contempt for their users as they do for their workforce ...

This is more an issue of bad management than crunch considering how many times this game has been delayed.

Yes, precisely.
I have no doubt the good will gained in the past will serve them well now.

Honestly, I think CDPR devs are an amazing bunch. But this is a case-history in bad management and the first to be let down are the employees.

"Now that we covered our bases and got the money from our sponsors, let us apologize for actively preventing you from knowing the real state of the product".
Gee, thanks.

I do think you have to give CDPR a bit of leeway with the fact that this game awkwardly straddles two generations. They had a PC version of the game with every feature they put in, and a struggling base console version temporarily ported to next-gen consoles. Of course, they're going to want the best version of the game reviewed.

Even the new PS5 games barely have any reviews for the PS4 versions. All the focus is on how the next-gen versions perform.

But then you still have the problem that they were happily selling the base console versions without being clear about how they performed, and there they have less of a leg to stand on. Regardless of the reviews, they should have been upfront about that.

Gee, thanks.

Do you have a figure regarding the money they got from sponsors?

Do you have a percentage regarding how much the dough they got from sponsors represents?

Do you have a total regarding what they're making on sales alone?
