CDPR officially apologises for hiding the console versions and promises quick updates and refund option

Resetera "CDPR issues "apology" for issues with Cyberpunk 2077; no mention of transphobic issues pointed out by multiple media outlets"

I assumed you had made that up.......but no......it's real

That place is getting worse.

What a colossal bunch of fuck nuggets.

"Yeah, I lied to you and cheated on you with your brother."

"But... but... you still love me because you've admitted it, right?"

"Of course... and it'll never happen again."

"I love you so much!"

...Jesus Christ, people.

Like i have been thinking for a long time for this game, shoulda been a focused PC and Next Gen release but investors and so on didnt want to miss out on the 150+ million install base on last gen.

Fuck this game. After all the crunch and delays this is what comes out. What is going on at cdpr?

Glad I canceled my pre-order cause I have a base PS4. Feel bad for everyone who bought the hype, which understandably seemed justified.

My experience on Series X has been fine (although I might just wait for a proper next gen experience), and I am happy to give CDPR the benefit of the doubt after The Witcher 3. Not gonna attempt a refund.

Nowadays you can release games in a poor state and then apologize.

The end result is people telling/thinking : "Good guys, making an apology is awesome, thank you so much CDPR !".

CDPR might as well added "Thanks guys. We took all of your money and ran..." after hiding the reviews and footages for the base consoles.

Do you have a figure regarding the money they got from sponsors?

Do you have a percentage regarding how much the dough they got from sponsors represents?

Do you have a total regarding what they're making on sales alone?

The people managing CDPR are not stupid. If they could have delayed the game again, they would have.

But they had investors obligations, marketing deals and the sweet sweet Christmas release window, together made the game un-delayable.

And you know what? I can understand it. Really, I don't agree, but i can understand.

What I can't accept is the disinformation towards their clients and the press, regarding the real state of the game. That's acting in bad faith, and there's no excuse for that.

They fucked up big time. I am happy to play on PC, but even then it is not smooth ride. It is a shame too, because for me this game is fantastic - even if far from perfect.
If they set the date couple of months later / divided release between platforms maybe they could not only fix the bugs and performance, but maybe take less shortcuts in some areas like city AI/systems....

yeah, especially that they not only apologise for the bugs, but also from hiding how the game actually looks on last gen. How bad it has to be for a developer to admit something like that.

What a bad situation coming from a well known company. Releasing a game that delayed many times without any optimization! Fuck me .. what the hell are you doing this whole time? Thank god I never ordered one cuz I knew there is something fishy about it. Better to just leave it a year then play it when everything is complete cuz I'm not going to buy a broken game in 2020.

Will you motherfuckers stop defending them now?

Since you asked nicely - and eloquently - ...

This is their second big mistake.

The first one was how they handled TW3 Downgrade. But sometime in 2021, 6 years after launch, six whole years, existing owners will get free updates for PC and next-gen consoles. To me, this kind of support redeems them from the bloody mess of 2015.

I think they've understood the seriousness of this second mistake. The conversation has apparently now moved on from bugs and performance to core gameplay and open world shortcomings. I think a roadmap is needed and would be greatly appreciated. How are they even going to market the expansions? I think they really need to deliver. Their reputation is on the line.

Their games are going to be under extremely close scrutiny from now on, bugs-wise, performance-wise, gameplay-wise and open-world-wise.

I do believe they deserve another chance. But maybe if you had used more Modafuckas I would have been persuaded otherwise.

This is more an issue of bad management than crunch considering how many times this game has been delayed.

Crunch is bad management and people's hero complex, making it feel like any endeavour is a critical battle for the ultimate prize.

CDPR knew or wilfully ignored the state of the game, forced crunch on their devs to hit a release date that was not practical and this crunch likely added its own bugs (but companies can count on other devs or customers who are also abused to justify the practice as a "well, I went through it so can you") as well as misled the public and a complicit press trying to get people locked into preorders.

CDPR was very close in fucking their employees out of 100% bonuses and users out of refunds if they had been a tad bit luckier and got more of their customers to do corporate apology for them and allow the company to release patch after patch and fix the worst of the worst bugs.

Hiding console versions was a pretty despicable thing for CDPR to do. This statement changes nothing.

Agreed. CDPR only released the statement because they got caught lying and outrightly obfuscating us. Cyberpunk 2077 does NOT run fine on last gen consoles. CDPR probably saw a shit tone of lawsuits coming there way from SONY and MS as well as from those 8 million gamers who pre-ordered the game. CDPR did not deliver a product that they said they would.

What did CDPro think would happen in the 7 years they were working on this? For the PS4 to magically change its specs? The target was locked.

They didn't have anyone on the team saying "wait a minute the PS4 can't do this remember guys we're making a console game".

Bethesda
EA
Activision
Ubisoft
Square-Enix
Bandai Namco
Deep Silver

Just to name a few.

People must be new to video games this week if they think this is some kind of unique thing.

Games like Avengers, Fallout 76, Skyrim(ran probably worst than this on PS3), Anthem, Mass Affect Andromeda to name a few launched in a shit state too. Assasins Creed Unity was a bug fest and also had massive frame drops on console. Valhalla has had way more bugs and janks for me on Series X than Cyberpunk, more crashes as well. Runs bit smoother tho in performance mode.

So you don't want them to also improve the game on PC?

Wtf is with "it's fine"? Why don't you take their cock out of your mouth.

Must be depressing knowing people actually enjoy the game. Try not to kill yourself when I say this, but despite the issues it has, I think CP2077 is one of the best games I ever played. I played it for 7 hours straight and did not even realize it and it has been many years since I managed to do that. Also you misunderstood my post, their PS at the end felt shitty as a PC user, as if we're just an afterthought, even if consoles suffer the most, the issues are on all hardwares. Anyway, I'll gladly suck CDPRS cock for this game and you can suck mine and cry me a river.

You keep spilling the same crap, but the truth is that none of those games you mentioned ran worst than Cyberpunk 2077 on the PS4 and PS4 Pro!!!

Good on them

Isn't that what they always do....Release a game in a sorry state, especially the console version, go on an apology spree because of the backlash, invite you to call them and contact them on forums, then start deleting posts and not responding to folk when they engage on CDPR forums.....

Oh we will fix it, Witcher 3 took years to fix, and that's just a way to put it, because it's still not fixed on consoles. The game still falls to the teens when you approach towns and the bog performance is still a mess.....People saying CDPR fixed Witcher 3 on consoles are straight out being disingenuous. If the bog fell to 19fps and now it's falling to 20fps with reduced settings or fog, that's not fixing Witcher on consoles.

These guys are so bad a regular modder was able to fix issues with AMD CPU's not fully utilizing the hardware within days, and people want to say this game is next gen "because it runs so bad", even on a 3090 you can't get 60fps at 4K, that people are using DLSS. It's not because the game looks so good, it's because CDPR is just awful with optimization and QA....

Witcher 3 runs well on the PS4. Yes you have some sketchy areas where FPS drop into low 20s but 98% of the game runs fine.

Got caught intemtionally hiding console versions from reviewers.
Releases apology statement.

I ain't buying any of your products again. Not waiting two months+ to play a game in an acceptable state. A game I paid full price for.

YEAH FUCK OFF.

Performance wise Unity honestly came pretty close to it on PS4, Control as well. I am not 'excusing' it just saying that this isn't a unique thing to happen in gaming, on the contrary. And like i stated above i think this game should've been a focused release for PC and Next Gen sometime in .. maybe march or so.

There's just too much money in launching for all the platforms at the same time. The bean counters just won't leave that money on the table. These people don't understand what unrealistic means. I guarantee you they're blaming the tech people now, people who couldn't say "no" to their bosses without repercussions or their qualifications being questioned.

A lot of these executives subscribe to the idea that it's better to apologize than to ask permission. They're generally into business hacks and "clever" slogans. Some of them like to discuss tricks for paying employees less, or making an extra dollar somehow, things like that.

I thought CDPR were one of the few good companies left in the AAA video game world. Very disappointing behavior by them.
I didn't play Witcher. I'm not even going to play this. But from the sideline I've been able to see how tremendous this company is. I don't see them as greedy. I don't see them as sneaky. I don't see them manipulative either. They look like they've aimed extremely high and did everything they could to make sure they would eventually, after so many delays, hit their target. They've not shown to be anything but hard workers. I don't think because of some issues this game has people should doubt the companies intentions - they've been, from what I've seen, extremely pro consumer. Is this right?

They didn't show the game running on the original consoles, even had a strict embargo for any reviews being uploaded prior to the release, with the CEO mentioning he's surprised how well the game is running on PS4 and XBox One.

How's that pro consumer? They basically knew people with OG consoles will be screwed, but happily took their money nonetheless.

Bethesda can go suck a fat cock with syphilis.

Let's not get crazy.

Anywho, I have faith CDPR will get this running to acceptable levels.

if anything, in the short term, drop the resolution to 720p on last Gen consoles as a bandaid solution to get some more frames. (If the CPU's allow for it) and then work on patching the rest of it and then bringing the resolution back up when feasible. Look at Wild Hunt.

or he'll look at Witcher 1-2 which both got MASSIVE free overhauls post launch.

these guys hearts are in the right spot but at the end of the day they still have to please investors.

I'm playing on PC and the game is fucking phenomenal. But I want them to get it to a spot where my console friends can play too.

Really though. If hypothetically I had only last Gen systems, even if it was 30fps locked at launch, I'd wait for the next gen versions/patch. This game just is best played at the highest possible fidelity.

they've provided a rough roadmap, and I'm certain they'll be working their asses off to get it to a much more playable state as soon as possible.

Most? Name me a developer(s) who last released the most anticipated game for that year, any year, on the PS4 that had frame rate drops to 15 fps, and full of crashes and glitches.
No man sky
Yet you will find who praise their act as the best Devs because they say " we are sorry

Or because they make some of the best games around

People like you are why CDPR, and any developer are stupid to apologize. The haters will always hate them, so why bother? They should have did what Hello Games did, just gone and start patching the game, and the let the haters cry.

What I learned most from following the game industry for long time is that some companies can get a free pass for anything they throw at you (CD project, Rockstar, Nintendo, Steam) while others can be massacred for the slightest blunders (all others)

Its good that they apologized but I wish they handled the launch a little better, this launch remindes me of Fallout 4.
Ehh, their rep turned to shit literally over night. Even with Bioware/Bethesda it took several years of poor releases and greedy practices to come to the same place.
Their biggest mistake was announcing release in April without having a clue of how well it will run. And then they backed themselves into a corner with delays even after the game went gold.

What were they supposed to do?
The ps4 and xbox one versions should just not exists. The game is too heavy to be released there... but too many preorders. They could not cancel it.
So they fucked up long ago

Well... they at least could have been honest about it, show the performance on OG consoles and stop releasing statements like "Wow, it's runs surprisingly well".

I agree with one point. They should have canceled the PS4 and ONE Version. But otherwise did people really expect it to run smoothly on next gen?

But it does. I never expected to run on it at all :P

As long as they hold their hands up (they have) and then fix things (hopefully they will) then it's all good.

People still ragging on them for apologising sound like the people on Era who dragged celebrities over the coals for something they did wrong, and then apologised - but too late, they are the devil and must be cancelled!

Life's too short to be feeling so bitter over a videogame. I'm waiting to see how XSX version looks and play before buying for that or PC. I'm in no hurry.

edit: I'm not defending them btw - no way it should have released in its current state on last gen.

Hmmm. Bit of a difference between a celebrity that posts a stupid tweet, and a video games company that deliberately lies to consumers over a large amount of time in order to get money out of them by straight out bullshitting about the quality of their product.

People like me are rational and not that stupid to praise a broken game or defend devs who fucked it up.

Indeed. It's been a shitshow of a year with the Covid and I dare say without that to contend with the game would likely be in a better state, which isn't making an excuse for it, but unfortunately, I suspect as many others do that the money men were reaching the end of their limits and much like Hello Games, CDP had to get something out. I don't think the developers are remotely happy, however, I suspect by the end of January the game will be significantly improved in terms of performance and bug fixes.

Well... they at least could have been honest about it, show the performance on OG consoles and stop releasing statements like "Wow, it's runs surprisingly well".
You have right they should.
BUT what you guys expect now?!

Now that the milk has spilled and the CDP has tarnished its reputation, what can they do?
They could, as you say, run away, hide or not speak back, then the entire internet would destroy them.
Now they did what they could and issued a statement, remember that we will not turn back the time.
The game is on the market and it's broken, but they have to move on.
After all, they won't commit suicide or shut down the company!
They offer a refund, which in my opinion is a fair step and I don't see many developers adopting this solution.
They didn't write a statement - people would destroy them.
They wrote a statement that they will improve and refund - people destroy them.
Situation without exit!

I play on Xbox One X and it's far from perfect, but I'm having a blast. People like me who were shocked by the graphics in Wolfenstein 3D many years ago are more understanding about the visual aspects. ;-)

Oh for sure. Big difference in preceding events, but exactly the same behavioural reaction. Each to their own but I don't get the point in being so wrapped up in bitterness and toxicity over someone else's fuck up. It happened. They addressed it/are fixing it. Move on. Get a refund and wait for improvements or don't buy it again at all. No point poisoning the well.

P.S. Don't preorder games. Wait til you know what you're getting!

Prob gonna refund my copy and wait for next gen version. Maybe it will hit Gamepass by the time it's in good shape anyways.

Maybe they payed it to bank account earlier and also if they send the vat to the GOV, then I am not sure if GOV will send it back. I am just saying that refunding does not seems to be they way to go. I did not studied how refund work in EU, I just refunded few games and then I felt ripped off, if the vat refund came later, that I don't know.

I don't know where you are, but in Sweden it definitely doesn't work like that. The VAT is included in the price (not added on afterwards like in the US), and if you get something refunded you always get the full amount back including VAT.

A friend of mine is playing on an Xbox One S and that has several problems with texture streaming issues, pop-ins etc. He said installing the game and running from an external SSD greatly reduces it and makes the game a little more playable. The usual bugs and performance kick ups will still be there until that has been patched.

So if you're on last gen consoles, look into installing to a game to an SSD. There's a reason why the PC version recommends to play it from an SSD.
