But it does. Especially the CPU.
The PS4 has those old Jaguar cores, with a 2-wide pipeline. While the Steam Deck has Zen2 cores.
On the GPU side, the PS4 has more TLOPs, 1.84 vs 1.64. But the CUs in the Steam Deck have much greater IPC,
The PS4 does have a big advantage, in that it has 176GB/s of memory bandwidth, compared to 88GB/s.
But this can be offset by RDNA2 having more cache, delta color compression and is using a tile based renderer.
The 1.64 TF is at the maximum clock speed of 1.6 GHz, but from what I have seen the actual clock speed is often significantly below that due to throttling. But it does. Especially the CPU.

Performance is slightly above Steam Deck, a 2022 portable handheld, and below that of Ally X and Legion Go. It's not impressive at all.
Steam Deck gives you OLED and way cheaper 3rd party games. The latter two vastly superior performance.
Switch 2 lets you play Mario Kart.
On 2 month vacations.Where's Sweettooth and James Sawyer? This thread feels weird… Only low quality Switch 2 haters here.

The Ally X is $800 and the Steam Deck OLED is $550 which is OLED yeah... but at 90hz vs 120hz, 800p vs 1080, 7.4" vs 8" and no VRR vs VRR. Plus the Switch 2 is more powerful than the Steam Deck and has DLSS, something the Ally X doesn't have... and a much cheaper price than the latter.![]()

It's not, only can match or slighty surpass PS4 at 1280x800 vs 1080p (SD screen resolution) but a 1080p SD is just slower than PS4. The SD GPU is more in line with the XBOX ONE GPU than PS4 GPU.What clocks does it get to?
But still, with RDNA2 having a 40+ IPC advantage, it would still mean the Deck is faster than the PS4.

Do we know the SW2 memory bandwidth yet?

It's the same history on windows (in fact some games runs better on steamOS).That is probably because the Deck has to deal with translation layers, as most games don't run natively on Linux and Vulkan.
But the hardware itself, it is more powerful than the PS4.
It's the same history on windows (in fact some games runs better on steamOS).
But yeah, the low-level optimization of the PS4's GPU will have an influence, although possibly the most influential factor is memory bandwidth. The point is that for all practical purposes it is not more powerful, in the same way that SX is more powerful on paper but not in actual performance vs PS5.
Is it using LPDDR5 then? I hope the hardware can compensate, from experience with a 780m at that bandwidth it gets horrible starved and never performs to its "8 TF" specs.102GB/s docked and 68GB/s for handheld.
Thought this is Ampere based, so it has great delta memory compression hardware and it's a tile based renderer.

NS2: 6x smaller than a PS4 with a form factor that has to consider built in controllers, a screen, a battery & appropriate heat management.
That's why it's impressive, and it'll be impressive when the NS3 matches the PS5 etc.
I don't think anyone is saying these things as a dig at the PS4. It was and is a great device. You are the one not using. Technology improve with time, period.
Never said is not impressive.
But there are like, vast years between those devices.
Not to mention the price of the hardware components get lower with time, thats what make possible creating those things, as impressive as they are.
I don't think anyone is saying these things as a dig at the PS4. It was and is a great device.
It's more a dig at the people who though Switch 2 would only be as powerful or less powerful than a PS4 or Steam Deck.

Correct. We know from the specs that its somewhere between a PS4 and a PS5 in performance, but we won't have a full idea until people actually get their hands on the final builds of games.Better wait the games release to give a proper judgment.
Yes actually Switch 2 is the start of the generation that PS6 will be a part of.PS4 was 2 gens ago?
Lol.
Consoles from two generations ago had raytracing, 4K, and 120fps, all in a handheld form factor?
It's going to do strong initial numbers. No one is arguing that. Presently, the economic environment for a big console release is extremely turbulent.ps4 210 WATS 20 pounds grills ns2 10 wats mobile techs ahahaha

That's the PS4 Pro & it's nothing wrong with him pointing out that it's 12 years apart. We have phones with better tech than our laptops from that time period now. Please use your brain properly next time.

Seems like a few people here are out of touch or something because we have a PS4 Pro & a PS3 being passed off as a PS4 in this thread for some reason. It's going to do strong initial numbers. No one is arguing that. Presently, the economic environment for a big console release is extremely turbulent.
So, when I said Wii U situation, I meant in the long run of the consoles' release. I was there day 1, but with all the added Nintendo fees for entry, I might as well just build a new PC, sell this one and maybe get a Switch 2, later, down the line. I don't see many games that I like for it, presently. I either have the games on PC or Switch 1 or not interested. The best thing shown for me was the new Mario Kart.
Also, what's with that picture? That's a PS3 grill trying to be passed off as a PS4. That's bad form.

Ps4/xbox one had terrible jaguar cores cpu's, hell ps4pr0 and xbox one x had them and thats one of the weakpoints of last gen consoles, despite 6tflop gpu xbox one x had.
Full disclousure i still got my old trusty ps4, og launch model, bought in march 2014 week before I:SS- it wasnt ez to get here in europe at launch, every store had marked up price first few months, i love that console, spent many k hours playing games on it and i can still be fair and critique that mashine for having old af and very outdated cheap 5400 rpm HDD(sony didnt even chose 7200rpm hdd, they cheaped out with 5400rpm one), 8gigs of fast gddr5 vram was very solid for 2013 but cpu with jaguar cores was terrible, it was actually weaker from ps3's cell, which we know coz back then ubisoft made a slide to describe that shit:You're not wrong, but CDPR is specifically talking about memory configuration here. Nobody is claiming that's the only upgrade from PS4.
PPeople haven't reckoned with what a disaster these CPUs were for gaming. Devs stopped tinkering with stuff like destruction and interactivity and moved to focus on fancy graphics because the console design basically demanded it. Maybe now with all consoles moving beyond it we can go back to this sort of thing but game devs are much worse than they were back in 2013.Full disclousure i still got my old trusty ps4, og launch model, bought in march 2014 week before I:SS- it wasnt ez to get here in europe at launch, every store had marked up price first few months, i love that console, spent many k hours playing games on it and i can still be fair and critique that mashine for having old af and very outdated cheap 5400 rpm HDD(sony didnt even chose 7200rpm hdd, they cheaped out with 5400rpm one), 8gigs of fast gddr5 vram was very solid for 2013 but cpu with jaguar cores was terrible, it was actually weaker from ps3's cell, which we know coz back then ubisoft made a slide to describe that shit:
Honestly PS4 was not a viable system for me without a SSD. It was changed the first week. I forgot what it was like to use a stock HDD until first time turning on the Pro. Completely insufferable. So the main attraction of PS5, getting rid of the terribly slow drive....I was there already.Full disclousure i still got my old trusty ps4, og launch model, bought im march 2014 week before I:SS- it wasnt ez to get here in europe at launch, every store had marked up price first few months, i love that console, spent many k hours playing games on it and i can still be fair and critique that mashine for having old af and very outdated cheap 5400 rpm HDD(sony didnt even chose 7200rpm hdd, they cheaped out with 5400rpm one), 8gigs of fast gddr5 vram was very solid for 2013 but cpu with jaguar cores was terrible, it was actually weaker from ps3's cell, which we know coz back then ubisoft made a slide to describe that shit:

Did I miss something or PS4 has raytricing, 4K, VRR, 120hz, DLSS, HDR, and a weight of 400g with a max TDP of 40W?
PS4 do have HDR.Did I miss something or PS4 has raytricing, 4K, VRR, 120hz, DLSS, HDR, and a weight of 400g with a max TDP of 40W?
Yeah, I'm just joking around.Did I miss something or PS4 has raytricing, 4K, VRR, 120hz, DLSS, HDR, and a weight of 400g with a max TDP of 40W?
You didn't disappoint, I'm glad someone pointed out the generation gap off the bat.PS4: 2013
