Cedar Point vs. Las Vegas

Yeah, so, this is the dilemma:

My gf and I are debating about a two-day trip to either Cedar Point (my choice) or Las Vegas (her choice).

Some background:

We've been to Cedar Point once (seven years ago), and we've never been to Vegas.

Vegas is way more expensive and doesn't include half the fun shit Cedar Point does.

Cedar Point is for children and is not nearly as exciting for grown adults as Las Vegas is.

I argue I want to do shit when I take a vacation, not see shit. Cedar Point wins this scenario.

The gf argues that just being in Vegas is enough, and considering we've already been to Cedar Point, this trip will be fun and "better."

I, too, argue that just "being together" is enough, and thus Cedar Point is wonderful, fun, and inexpensive.

The Cedar Point trip we have planned will cost roughly $300 less than Vegas.

So my question is, if you had to choose, is going to Vegas over Cedar Point worth the extra $300?

go to vegas, she'll just bitch to no end about how she'd would've rather been in Vegas, untill you wanna throw yourself out of the cart at the top of the millennium force.

Top quality restaurants, shows and bars. Plus gambling if you like it. All you do in Cedar Point is go on rides and eat fried shit.

It's more on what you want to do. Go see really nice hotels and gamble, or go to the best amusement park in the world?
It comes down to this. Complete with classification of Cedar Point.

Cedar. Las Vegas is more for singles I think.

But if she's really set on it you should probably spend the money, she'll probably hassle you about it.

edit: yes vegas is worth the extra 300

This man is right. Because of this, you can't really win either way unless you take separate trips.

That depends on how long you are staying in Vegas and what you plan to do here.. like someone said its more of a place for singles but there are stuff to do for couples too. Either way you will spend some money. Looking at the casinos is fun and all but that gets tiring if you stay here for too long or if its so busy you get tired of the crowds. I don't know anything about cedar point but if you come to vegas its best to have your own car so you don't have to buy overpriced water and food from the hotels.

I hate Las Vegas. Everyone I know keeps having "destination birthdays" in Vegas (btw when did this become okay? destination birthdays can fuck off - I need better friends) and I always come back dehydrated and exhausted. If you like booze, stupid large casinos, underground malls, tigers behind glass, clubs, parking lot vomit, and long-ass taxi lines go to Vegas.

Split the difference and go to Branson.

Over a decade ago, I joked to my family about visiting Branson after seeing a Simpsons episode.

Boy did that joke backfire on me.

I'd go to Vegas just to get it out of the system, and who knows, you may find it worth the extra expense. I'd try to schedule it when there are cool conventions or fights in town.

Is neither an option? Cedar Point I am assuming you will be going to the amusement park there? Vegas isn't that fun to go to as a couple unless you both like gambling, golfing or strippers. All of the shows worth seeing in Vegas usually can be seen somewhere else for cheaper. Look into Key West, it isn't expensive and the Key's are a good time. If you have a little bit more to spend I HIGHLY recommend Tortola, in the British Virgin Islands. Nothing is better than cool beverages with umbrellas on sandy beaches, with out a shit ton of people. That is the thing you need to think about. Out of all of the traveling I have done with girl friends and now my wife, there is nothing like vacationing to places with fewer people.

If all of that is too expensive look into some of the Carolina beaches, Wilmington is a pretty chill coastal city with a lot of good beaches around it and you can always head down to Myrtle Beach if you want more of a crowd as well.

Like?

If you're on a budget, go with Cedar Point. It's fucking awesome and reasonably priced.

I wouldn't go to Vegas unless I had plenty of cash to spend.

Cirque, Blue Man, Penn and Teller and many others play other venues through out the year. I have seen Blue Man in Chicago, Cirque in St. Paul Mn, Penn and Teller in Seattle. Vegas is fun, don't get me wrong, but of all the times I have been to Vegas (6 of my good friends used to caddy at some of the best courses down there during the winter) I have always had a much better time with my boys than going there with a girlfriend. My wife and I have not gone since she has no desire to go there.

I would say Cedar Point.

But I feel like you're already stuck with Vegas because it's what she's already set on and she'll basically bitch if you don't go.

Traveling Cirque shows aren't even remotely close to the stage shows. I wouldn't classify the other two as "worth seeing" in vegas,

But..what you said about going with the boys instead of a girl is totally true. But again...I would say that the shows and restaurants make it more couple friendly than a them park.

I reluctantly agree.

I feel this horrible itch coming on where even if we go to Cedar Point it will be this " ... okay, if you want" attitude the whole way.

Maybe we might change the topic to: Fun to have in Vegas when you don't really want to be there ..." cuz that's what I'm feelin' about now, lol. :)

I live in Vegas and it's too damn expensive in the strip! Not into gambling at all either. I still don't visit the strip very often in my adult life, yet when I was a kid I remember going to Treasure Island and Circus Circus. Nowadays? There's this arcade and I completely forgot it's name... it mostly has lame and old games though last I checked. Street Fighter 3 Second Generation but no Third Strike? Sheeeiiiit. It did have house of the dead 4 though.

I vote for Cedar Point, even though I've never heard of it til this topic.

I said that shit like 20 times to her: Vegas is a vacation we take when we have that extra $1000 to blow on nothing. Cedar Point is a vacation we take now, while we're poor up-and-comers. Don't know why that logic doesn't stick with her, ha.

If money is an issue, stay away from Vegas. Being frugle really restricts your fun in Vegas.
second post nailed it.

Cedar Point is amazing fun for the price. A couple hundred bucks and you'll be set (not including airfare and room).

Vegas is amazing fun if you pack at least $1,500 to blow (not including airfare and room)

I'd go to Cedar Point. I hate Vegas, it's basically the worst aspects of humanity all crowded into one city.

If you do have to go to Vegas though, bring hiking shoes and some water bottles and head out to Red Rock National Park. It's beautiful and has some amazing vistas.

This too. I would imagine that if really want to do Vegas right (watch a show, dinner at a nice restaurant or two, maybe even hit up a club for some dancing at night) it will cost a lot more than an extra $300. I mean, if you were just going with some guys, you could probably go cheap on the booze and food and save money, but that probably wouldn't fly on a couples trip.

This is actually a really strange dilemma. It's like trying to decide if I should to go Magic Mountain or New York city.

Vegas is not really built as a couples vacation spot. I honestly don't see what you guys will be doing there for two days as a couple. Go with Cedar Point, or suggest a different spot that you both want to go to.

Quality post, it is exactly like that.

And I'd agree, Vegas being $300 more is an estimate on the low side. Even more to the point: a $800 vacation vs. a $1200-$1500 vacation, then. Is Vegas worth the difference?

If you cant do vegas big, dont go at all. Go to cedar point, stay at the Breakers.

As a resident of Vegas, I would definitely say Cedar Point. If you don't have money, you really shouldn't be here because there isn't anything to do (as a tourist) but spend money.

Shows: Couple hundred
Gambling: Well, it's gambling. Vegas wasn't built off winners.
Food: Super over priced unless you actually rent a car to go to areas outside the strip, but really, why are you in Vegas if you're not at the strip?
Malls: We probably have all the designer brands in the world. So, if you want to buy 3000 dollar pair of pants...

Also, I feel like you would be more exhausted from going to Vegas than not at all, making a "vacation" pretty redundant.

Really, Vegas is just not that great.

White Sands resort in Jamaica on 7 mile beach has rooms for $57 a night flights are pry around 600-700 per depending on when you leave, so for 2 grand you could be in Jamaica for a few days.

We have no kids; that was "her" line, heh.

Aaah. Cedar point looks like more fun, honestly, but I do love me some Vegas. Sounds like money is an issue, so you'd probably be better off at Cedar Point. Having said that, your girlfriend seems pretty set on Vegas. What Baby wants, Baby gets, and all that.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I have a related question. Anyone know if Darien Lake is any good?
