Cedar Point vs. Las Vegas

I would go to Cedar Point, but then... I only live an hour from there. It's kind of crazy that anyone would consider it for, like, a weekend vacation spot, actually. I never thought about it that way.

That said, the folks who say listen to your old lady are correct. If she's that adamant about seeing Vegas, she probably won't be happy going to Cedar Point. Not worth the guilt, of you ask me.

You could try telling her that you would like to go to Vegas, but not only for a weekend thing. Thus essentially saying, we'll go to Cedar Point now, Vegas when we have more time/money. Make her feel like she's kind of getting her way, you know?

I just look at it this way, Cedar Point is for people under 21 and families. Vegas is for adults with money to blow and more fun enjoyed with friends, not a couples destination.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I have a related question. Anyone know if Darien Lake is any good?

Sorry Divvy, have not made it north of NYC on my adventures yet. We did go down to the Six Flags in NJ to go on that Kingda Kai or what ever it is called, but it was broke down when we were there.

I've been to both Cedar Point and to Las Vegas. Neither is inherently better. First let me just say that I don't know why you think you can't do shit in Vegas. Yes, there are plenty of shows but there's also rides here and there, gambling, some of the best food the world has to offer etc.

With that said, I'd pick Cedar Point. It's a two day trip and Im not sure you can experience Vegas right in just two days. Also, assuming you're going sometime soon, the weather would be more bareable in Sandusky right now. And if money is a concern, that's a definite pro for the Cedar Point side.

Cedar Point now, Las Vegas later.

Tell that to the world class restaurants and shows.

Contextually significant, my gf would call you "Mr. Serious" about now.

Just sayin'. lol ...

I lived in Chicago for 4 years, Vegas doesn't have any better eateries or shows than what comes there. I have been to Vegas 12 times. If you base travel on World Class restaurants and shows then good luck, I have nothing to add. We all know nothing makes your girl want to rock your world like an Amazing steak and Celine Dion.

If you want to go to Vegas, go to Vegas with the cash and the time. You'll burn 2 days so fast and so much money in two days that when you look back on it, it wouldn't have been worth it.

Put your foot down...

Hell, you wont go to sleep the first night and end up passed out half way through the second day. But it may be worth it, just stay away from the tables when your hammered or you may end up selling your girlfriend off to the bunny ranch.

Well sure, Chicago is amazing but it wasn't a choice that I was aware of. Also, outside of the Taste and the Blues Fest around the Navy Pier area, LV has a more festive, vacationy vibe. Love me some Wrigleyville though

As much as I love Cedar Point, the best time to really go is in May as soon as the place opens for the season. The weather tends to be far milder, and the crowds/lines/waits are a fraction of the size they are in June once school gets out.

I've never been there, but if I were like flying in and not a local, I'd get the VIP tickets that give you head of the line privileges. I love roller coasters and theme parks but lines suck, especially if you have limited time. I'd ride top fuel dragster/millennium force etc 10 times in one day.

Eh, if you go on a weekday it isnt too bad, they have so many rides and roller coasters that the longest you would wait is maybe 45 minutes. And all of their coasters are good, none are crap, so you can just keep riding the ones with minimum lines.

No, the absolute best time to go is the very last week of August, when all of the K-12 types have just started school.

Wrigleyville is fun, there and Rush street area is a lot of fun too. Last time we went to a Cubs game we sat in the bleachers when they played St. Louis, man was that a drunken riot.

It is no Cedar Point.
I have fun there though, there just aren't many unique rides there (Mostly just smaller copies of Cedar Point rides)

HAHAHA, this is so fucking not true. Go ride the Mantis and Mean Streak and then get back to me. Those two are physically painful to ride. And then they have the Red Dragon and Corkscrew which are the definition of boring. I love Cedar Point but it's not infallible.

Vegas always seemed more like a place to go with your buddies. I think if I went with my SO I'd feel like I couldn't do half the shit I really wanted to. Cedar Point can be a great couple's thing so it is definitely worth going sometime, I'm just not sure I would prefer it over Vegas.

Granted I live just over an hour from CP and can go whenever I want so maybe I'm a bit biased/jaded.

Somehow I don't think Vegas would be as fun with a significant other. Plus, Vegas is probably not merely $300 cheaper if you factor in all the money you'd lose gambling.

And if you're not going to gamble or delve into the heart of the party world, then it's probably not worth going anyhow. Going to a bunch of lame magic shows or cheap music reviews is not going to be amazing. Although I guess the one exception would be to go on a Grand Canyon excursion, which is totally rad.
