CES: PS3 Presented and Bluray Launch

Game I think will be show with new footage:

-Warhawk
-Lair
-Heavenly Sword
-Killzone
-Some more

Games that will be playable:

-Warhawk
-Lair

Because they're both launch titles!

Why? Because they both have a 3.2 ghz processor and 512 Megs Ram?

Would you say both of these processors are equal too between an Athlon 3000 and an Athlon 64 3000? They run at the same clockspeed.
No they don't.

Since CES is an electronics show and not really a games show, I don't expect any games to be playable to the public there. Maybe they'll demo an actual game or two (not tech demo), but that's it I think.

CES is the place where I'd expect more about the hardware and all of its multimedia capabilities. Perhaps they'll reveal the interface (OS / final controller?), more details about the Bluray player inside of the PS3, final PS3 hardware on the outside (little changes perhaps, launch colors if any other than silver) and perhaps some spec changes if there are any.

Other than that, perhaps they'll reveal more about the launch.

I think us gamers have to wait until february for a full games blowout.

I agree that we won't see ~much in the way of games. I don't think any publishers are planning on attending and I think first party titles are pretty well known.

However, with all of the media services the 360 supports, Sony might take this opportunity to introduce some functionality they've only hinted at previously.

Besides Blu-Ray, the PS3 has quite a lot of home integration stuff in there. The memory card slots, Wi-Fi, digital video, HDMI, SACD, Eye-Toy, Digital Dolby, online functionality that's not games, and maybe it's time to unveil a more "Sony-wide" software interface XMB on steroids (probably too much too ask for).

There is alot of PS3 potential inside the home besides just gaming. Of course, they promised alot of that for the PS2 which went nowhere.

There's really no need for Sony to rush it anywhere. The born pessimist that I am believes we'll see it over here in Europe Q1 2007. Hopefully I'm setting myself up for a pleasant surprise :)

You didn't even get RR6 360. Also , it's unlikely PS3 is gonna launch with a FF controller and foot pedals...You're jizzing for nothing again.

Pick your choice

A) This "news" is old, from early December
B) No other media has reported since the alleged "PS3 in CES" announcement
C) Believe :-(

But there's no reason the existing one wouldn't work, it's USB and force feedback is important to Polyphony.

I'm interested and a little frightful for what Sony may have in store at CES. I'm hoping I didn't buy a 400 dollar doorstep. If what Sony brings at CES is their E3 level movie quality then I think it is a tough road ahead for MS. If you read between the lines from developer comments about various games (Latest one being Fight Night), they are all hinting PS3 is going to be a step up from Xbox 360. Perhaps a significant one.

That's what my gut's been telling me all along.

I see. And if enough people get that impression so soon after a difficult launch, that's got to be a considerable blow to the 360 effort. It depends on whether or not the CES show is meant as a body blow.

I'm confused... does this mean FFXII will be released at about the same time as the PS3? What about that new Valkyrie Profile game for PS2?

PSOne had moderately big name games coming when PS2 released, I'm sure it'll be even more dramatic for PS2 given the success and level of games announced for it so far. I don't see any reason for that to stop at the moment.

I'm not quite sure what you're getting at though with this comment, so I'll let you clarify.

That's exactly what I was getting at, thanks. :) I know there were some fairly popular PS1 games that came out after the PS2 launch, but that a Final Fantasy game would come out on a last-gen console just blows my mind. *shrug*

The PSone's most succesful game in Japan (DQ7) came out after the PS2 was released.

Well they had some of those FF Anthology games that came out after, but naturally that isn't the same thing. And DQ7.

I think it's a matter of making sure your costumers are happy with the product they've invested in. It instills confidence for them to see that even after everyone is moving to next gen, there's quality products they can play until they're ready to move over.

And when they do move over, they won't have to worry 'cause they can play the games on PS3 anyway.

You don't even LIKE RR6. Or you would have it already.

I expect the gates of pre-order hell will be open once Sony announces official specs/release date/price etc etc.

I'm going all over town placing pre-orders on this one, PS2 and X360 taught me a hard learned lesson.

2 Eb & 1 Gamestop within a mile of each other here- thinking about pre-ordering at all 3!

QFT. I can only imagine the bundle rape. I will however wait for US version. I still think Spring 2006 is optimistic even for Japan.

Oh I dont know, maybe cause the only gameplay Sony has shown for PS3 looks like this.

Dont set yourself up for disapointment.
They will be pretty much equal in grafx, except maybe later in the PS3's life they will pull slightly ahead.

360 leaks were flying everywhere before launch yet Sony has been able to keep a lid on everything, from themselves to even developers.
Well devs are easy to shut-up - you simply don't tell them anything :P
But yea, Sony is very good at keeping a lid on things - too much so sometimes.

So you're saying I-8 looks bad?
No, not at all, I think it looks great.
Its just that I have come across alot of people lately who think the PS3 is going to be a huge leap from the 360 in terms of grafx. Nothing shown so far proves that.

Wollan said:

No, his point is the 'real-time' games don't look much better/worse than the 360 games we've seen.

Warhawk, MGS4, I-8, Fifth Phantom Saga, etc...

Edit: Beaten by the man himself

MGS4?

It's ok baby.

If Warhawk wasn't real-time, that was singularly the most unimpressive non-real-time footage I've ever seen.

Nevermind, you didn't list MGS4 either. You're just an idiot then.

Something I've noticed with I-8 is that the colour palette is effin great. Just look at that picture. There's depth to it. Love it.

I meant actual gameplay. Besides MGS4 is not really blowing anything away anyway.
Dont turn this into a flamewar I think the PS3 is going to be great, just not what some people are hyping it to be.

It's a matter of being real-time, which MGS4 factually is. Let's not trying to discredit it, cinematics or not. I'm not saying it looks much better or worse than 360 games, but there's no reason NOT to list it with the stuff we've seen real-time for PS3. Because it is, for a fact, real-time.

Err ... we're claiming MGS4 is gameplay footage now?

You do understand the term, right?

Rhindle said:

No ones saying it is. But its already been confirmed that the gameplay and cutscenes will run on the same engine so there's not going to be any difference between them despite what some have been hoping.

Rhindle said:

No, that it's REAL TIME.

Which it is. Since gameplay will look the same, as Solid games always do, it's easily the best indication we have of how games will look next-generation given talent and a decent development time.

Trailers have ALWAYS been representative of MGS in the past. There is no reason to doubt it now.

You keep talking about real-time. Rob and I are talking about gameplay. Two different things.

I meant games that are actually playable. Like I-8 and Fifth Phantom Saga, meaning games we have actually seen in action, being played by someone. OK Im done I dont want to derail the thread any furhter.

Now now, we don't want to spoil Rhindle's fun. I encourage everyone who doubts that gameplay will look exactly the same to continue doubting.
