Not sure how I feel about this trend of adapting stuff as a TV show, then moving into a movie for some random arc and then probably back to a TV show. Demon Slayer did the same thing.

Looks good though, and I'll definitely watch. Chainsawman just keeps getting better over time (the original run, the current manga is still fun but not as good IMO)

It needed to happen for Chainsaw Man. Part 1 of the manga is 11 volumes, and Season 1 adapted the first 4 and a half volumes, leaving six and a half volumes to be adapted after that. That would mean going straight into a Season 2 would either result in a rushed adaptation of 12 episodes that would zoom through scenes and/or skip scenes from the manga or an overly drawn out adaptation of 24 episodes that would have to really slow down scenes to a crawl to stretch the remaining material for that long.

The Reze arc is about 1 and a half volumes long, so this is perfect. Plus, they'll likely edit the film into episodes to serve as a "beginning" for Season 2, then use the reminder of Season 2 to adapt the remaining arcs of Part 1.

Anyway, full hype, the stuff we got so far was excellent in its adaptation but that was when the manga was "merely great". Now it's just going to keep getting better and when Season 2 hits and non-readers see how insane the remainder of Part 1 of the manga is, it's going to be nuts. This is a rare case where a shonen mangaka clearly did plan the entire story in advance, as revisiting it one picks up on so much foreshadowing. It's done in such a subtle way, but a major part of the ending of Part 1 is foreshadowed right there in one moment of the opening chapters, like it's so crazy.

Anyway, can't wait to see this.

I would feel more okay with it if these studios kept a decent schedule, but due to delays, multiple projects, and other issues stemming from business decisions out of their hands, we keep ending up with a delay of 2+ years between each, which really slows everything down and does a ton of damage to any momentum a show might have built up.

Black Clover is still on hiatus as I write this. And before anyone says it yes, I know BC was a weekly mediocre shonen, but I like my weekly mediocre shonen (Bleach, Naruto, etc.) because it's always reliably there, like a saturday morning cartoon.

What I've seen of Black Clover is pretty great IMHO, it basically feels like an actual well-executed version of some of Fairy Tail's concepts. But I'm not surprised they're not in a rush to bring the anime back as far as I know the manga was never a HUGE seller, even when it made the Top 10 Shonen Jump sellers of a year it was usually near the bottom of the 10.

Mind you, I don't know about the last two years or so as Youtuber Super Eyepatch Wolf used to make these great annual Shonen Jump Rankings/Sales/Cancellations videos, but he stopped. Honestly he lost my interest after that, now it's either wrestling videos or just really random topics and he rarely uploads anyway. I mean, he should do what he wants, I'm just saying I miss his older content focus.

The weekly show was helping the property build momentum.

Them overestimating it's popularity, then trying to chase Demon Slayer's success and suddenly stop the show in order to make a movie, killed all momentum. It was killed even further when this all happened during the pandemic of all times.

If they had simply kept at the weekly show, it would have been this generation's Naruto in terms of popularity, merch, etc. and they could have developed some movies on the side, like other shonen used to do. It was airing during the time where this distribution method was still viable.

All of it was wasted.

Regardless, I don't want to make this a Black Clover-focused thread. My complaint just extends to Chainsaw Man because I don't want that show to suffer a similar fate, even though it's not weekly and is seasonal instead.

Once any anime pauses a show to announce a movie, these companies have to keep in mind that the clock is ticking.

Wouldn't the anime have caught up to the manga though if they had just kept going? Especially as to my understanding the release of chapters is now in a biweekly or monthly release when it entered its final arc.

Regardless though, you probably should have checked something before making your first post because:

Not 100% official, but a lot of sites are reporting this, and the announcement is supposed to happen on the 6th.

Literally had an anime sequel announcement in this upcoming weeks Shounen Jump. lol. I read the first 100 chapters in 2018 and thought it wasn't very good. But whatever.

CSM the anime did not deliver, the CG sequences were god awful. This movie looks SO MUCH better visually, I'm actually looking forward to it. I am a CSM Part II enjoyer.

The anime had reached a perfect point to insert a filler arc, like Bleach and Naruto. That way the author would have time to complete more chapters.

Again, the traditional distribution method would have easily worked for this show.

The problem is that these rumors have been off and on for over two years at this point. Hence, my rant. I will wait for anything official before getting excited again.

I am hoping there are no delays.

Come on now, let's not go back to THOSE days.

It's especially why I have zero interest in ever returning to the One Piece anime. Their decision to apparently just make a ton of canon episodes just contain a ton of filler absolutely frustrated me. I'll just read the rest of the manga…..someday, as by this point I'd have to start over from the beginning as I've forgotten so much since stopping at the timeskip, and the amount to read by this point is daunting. I personally am glad that Shonen seem to keep it to 20-50 volumes in total these days.

Also, these modern Shonen anime just look much better because of this change. Chainsaw Man, Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, etc. all look better than like at least 95% of what the older long-running Shonen anime could pull off. Occasionally, an episode would be worked on by a director and team capable of doing something strong even with their rushed schedule, like the episodes of Naruto with the Rock Lee vs Gaara, Naruto vs Sasuke at the end of Part 1, and Sakura and Chiyo vs Sasori and his 100 puppets, but they were definitely the exception to the rule.

Again, I think that distribution method fits that anime specifically. Black Clover felt like it was just before the line of change, or on the line itself. I understand why people don't want to go back to this type of anime filler, but that's not what I'm saying should happen for any modern anime, literally just Black Clover it should have happened for, due to when it had come out.

I consider that show (and Boruto) the very last of the old guard-style of shows where they used to do these things.
