Chances of my TV getting fixed? Should I buy this new TV?

My uncle gave my family his old TV, a Samsung 52 inch after he bought a new 4K TV for himself and besides the fact that the screen flickers/dims/mirrors the image (not sure what the technical term for the problem is) for 20-30 minutes when starting it up, I think it's a great TV with good picture quality, plus plenty of inputs. Plus HUGE size upgrade over my previous 39 inch Insignia, I loved it.

Sadly yesterday someone threw a ruler at the TV, causing a crack (though I couldn't feel it from the outside), lots of dead pixels (bottom left-middle of the screen is fucked up) and vertical colored lines across the screen which brought much sadness.

Anyway I was hoping Sears' TV repair service would help out. Guessing they need to replace the screen or something. So I scheduled an appointment for next Tuesday, the diagnosis is $99, but I'm unsure if the dude will actually be able to fix the problem. The TV is from 2008 apparently and I'm not sure they make parts for it anymore, or how much it would cost to fix.

My other option was to get this 58 inch Samsung that's on sale for $500. Don't really want a screen smaller than 52 inch and this is the best deal I've found. Should I still go ahead with the Sears repair, or just buy this?
