Cheap games in Manhattan

All Hail C-Webb

Hailing from the Chill-Web
I was in Union Square earlier today, and the Toys R Us thwere is closing down. All games (they still have a decent assortment) are 40% off. They are even selling empty crates, so you could probably work the price down even further. I just bought Snake Eater for $14, but I can't say exactly how I did that. :)

Oh holy fuck I should walk there. I was actually gonna buy a new game today too.

Wonder if it's too late...

do they have RE4!?

DS GAMES?!?

I didn't see any DS games, and I'm not sure about RE4 either. Most of the worthwhile games are behind the counter (MGS 3, Hot Shots Golf fore, Thug 2, Metroid Prime 2, GTA: San Andreas... etc). They had a bunch of GBA videos, and N64 games aswell. I wish I had more time, because the store was a complete mess, and I'm sure I missed a bunch of great deals.

Is it worth the 20 minute walk there for me? Otherwise I was just gonna go to EB. I'm looking for GC games in particular.

I'm like 6 blocks from there... I should swing by, but the number of games I have to play already is keeping me in check. :lol

It's fucking freezing outside, so I don't know if it's worth a 20 minute walk.
There were quite a few GC games when I was there, but I don't know if they were quality games. I remember seeing Custom Robo, Metroid Prime 2, Paper Mario 2, and a some other games that i don't remember. Unfortunately I was high at the time, and there was some glare coming off the glass, I couldn't really see much more.

Reporting in.

The pickings were sadly slim - no Donkey Konga, no Snake Eater, no Baten Kaitos. :(
Apparently this place is gonna be a Babies R Us now.
However, I did get some chick's number/e-mail on the 1 train back to work.

WIN

I was there about a half-hour ago, and they had several copies of Baten Kaitos behind the counter along with Metroid: Echoes, a million copies of Crystal Chronicles, and even a few Phantasy Star Online's. Not much else GameCube wise, though.

Several copies of Baten Kaitos...but there were no Baten Kaitos to be seen? You guys aren't looking hard enough!

Also, if it's like my Toys R Us, you have to ask the employees if the game is in stock if it isn't displayed on shelves. Had to do that when I went to get Paper Mario 2

Donkey Konga...buy Wario64 a new Donkey Konga game...

I've got Donkey Konga, and I only played it twice. I have the box, Kongas, and game disc, but can't find the container the game came in (though I can still look). I can loan/trade/sell it tou you if you want it, though I had no clue it was so hard to find.

Yeah, they had tons of Baten Kaitos behind the counter.

I got MP2:Echoes, Pinball Hall of Fame & Trivial Pursuit for Xbox for about $50.

Oh it's not rare, it's just that I don't spend full price on video games :P

the day after that yellow banner weet up (which was the day after TRU annouced they were closing that store) the store was ransacked...nothing good. Oddly new games were priced 54.99 with (at the time) a 30% discount. Even if they did have good games the crowd made it not worth it.

This is what happens with pretty much any good deal / free thing in the area. NYC sucks for bargains.

How much was Echoes? Also, anyone note any good Xbox or PS2 deals?

It was $30 after the discount. They had a lot of PS2 games that I wasn't interested in (e.g. Rumble Roses, Call of Duty, GTA: San Andreas). The Xbox stuff was a bit more scarce.

I saw a few GBA games that might be worthwhile too like Pokemon Fire Red & those $15 Poker / Casino games (which would be < $10 with the discount).

It's probably worth a look if you're in the area, but it's inevitably going to be more picked down the longer you wait.

I keep hearing Echos is there I didn't see it when I went when the sale started...guess i'll stop by duing my lunch on monday...if they last that long....lol

It looked like they had something like 25 copies of it left this afternoon, so your chances are probably good that there will still be one or two left.

Yup they had 2 left as of 2 pm this afternoon. Odd thing is on the shelf there was a tag below Echos said 39.99 but it rang up at "49.99 - promo". Bagh but for $30 I'm not gonna complain.

They had a lot of Blinx 2's..lol and some Bards Tales for X-box at 54.99 orginal price. I saw a guy buy the GTA 2 pack for X-box and that was 20 something.
