Chibi-Robo: Zip Lash Announced (3DS, October, side-scroller, Amiibo bundle available)

Looks great, but I'd absolutely love for them to finally give this series the full budget treatment it deserves, give it a proper sequel, or even finally localise Happy Rich Big Sweep. Heck, I'd even take a 3DS port of the original!

While that would certainly be welcomed, I think this game (and the Amiibo) can at least serve as a means of expanding the awareness of the Chibi Robo franchise. Personally, I'm okay with them deviating from the usual formula in order to do this, as it can also provide a means to experiment, and later incorporate, new ideas.

If Nintendo had gone for another house exploring sequel it would have brought problems up with localisation, especially if it's following the story of the main games. Outside Japan Nintendo like to pretend that the 2nd DS game never existed, that would be quite the gap in the story.

Chibi Robo on the Gamecube was phenomenal. But the DS game was terrible and the series has not come back since. I really wish they'd make a return to the original formula instead of whatever this is.

Wasn't the second game on DS more of a return to form? Granted, it was left as a Japan-only game...

They already did

You can thank Nintendo America/Europe for shafting you. It took everything from the gamecube game and then expanded up on it with a whole new story and moves as well as new toys and things to explore, you could even upgrade the house by phone shopping hehe. The little dance chibi does on the buttons while dialling the number on the phone is adorable.

I'm pretty sure it was. And yes, Japan only unfortunately... I should learn Japanese and translate it myself. :p

As for this game, I think it looks like a lot of fun. Using the plug as a weapon with a lot of versatile use is a great idea for a platformer. It definitely looks more fun and fufilling than Photo Finder, at least. I'm excited for it and really hope it gets localized.

Also, that Chibi Robo amiibo will be fucking MINE. CR is one of my favorite Nintendo characters and he is the last character I would have expected to get an amiibo. Yet here we are, and I will stop at absolutely nothing to get him. I'm still in shock that it's being made

Holy crap, I love Chibi-Robo. So much for the idea that the Japan-only direct wouldn't reveal anything substantial. I still don't own an amiibo and probably will never own one, but they are at least tempting me with this one.

Though I would rather see a sequel similar to the GC game, I feel totally ok with this being a 2D platformer after watching the trailer. And it's got Umihara Kawase-style grappling/swinging mechanics- this could be pretty awesome.

Right, I do remember this coming and going. But I'm not sure 3D from the original DS would do justice to the series anyway. I'd love to see something on 3DS or Wii U in the same style.

yeah the ds really wasn't upto it graphically but it managed pretty well. Would love to see it on the wiiu in HD with a giant house or maybe even the factory where they are made.

That looks super cool, but then I remember what amiboos really end up looking like.

What's the last amiibo you've seen? The Peach/Marth drama from December is hilariously outdated. They look like what you see there. Chibi Robo will look exactly like that.

Hey another new Nintendo game thread, another cry for Metroid even when it makes no sense, this truly is a running trend.
E3 is gonna be great fun.

I bought a Yoshi Amiboo for a birthday present for a friend who loves yoshi, it looked really cheapy, even for 11 pounds or w/e.

When I first saw this in the direct I thought they were announcing a new game in the same style as the original. I was ready to buy a 3DS for it too. Oh well.

Massive bummer. I hope someone is able to get it done sooner or later. :'(

I dunno. I have a feeling the DS is a lot like the GBA, now; what major games will be translated already are, and you'll only get a trickling down sporadically every few years of some notable title.

I hope u won't be stealing Lorry for this Amiibo when they come out lol.^_^

I haven't been following the amiibo scene much, but I was under the impression that the non-Smash stuff was more consistent quality-wise. With the Smash amibos it seemed like the promo renders the figures were based on were not made to be converted into figurines. The later amiibos have the benefit of being designed from the ground-up with mass production in mind.
