I mean, I don't think it's an alien but it's clearly a UFO. A UFO is simply a designation for an airborne object that cannot be identified.

Why not? Something seems to be interacting with people, and it appears intelligent. If you really dig into Vallee, he looks at any "visitors" as more of a manifestation of reality itself.

What difference would it make? Any quality footage would be immediately shut down as CGI anyway.
As already stated, there is HD footage of the object. But it's so far away, that you can't really make anything out.
The "potato" quality video you likely are referring to is the IR camera. It's black-and-white because it only shoots in infrared. And without that footage, this sighting wouldn't have amounted to anything.

And filming far off lights at night? It's very difficult even with an actual camera without a tripod for true stabilization.

Well there is an interesting phenomenon that since the explosion of virtually everybody in North America carrying a super high quality image stabilizing video camera in their pocket with virtually limitless storage, and there being high quality cameras on almost every cop car, many civilian cars, and thousands of buildings around the US, somehow video of UFOs has gone down since that 1990s peak.
Fun fact: phone cameras actually can pick up near-infrared pretty well. I've used my phone when debugging systems with IR LEDs before.

It's the cliche and least-effort "not aliens you dummy" line; I don't think people really use "HD phones" and "swamp gas" as dismissals... well, maybe some ppl use the phone thing but they clearly have never attempted to shoot video of something distant and airborne w/ their phones.

I kind of wish they had the foresight to send out another helicopter just to quickly take air samples and quality. I'm curious what was that UFO ejecting.

It really seems that way, but I think its just white and blends in with the cloud cover until they switch over the infrared. Its interesting though how the camera targeting system couldn't hold target of it either, kept losing it when not in IR

Possible. Weird design for one, though, give the purported render estimates and flight uniformity.
It could be a test flight of some sort of stealth drone but I'm not sure why it would be flying where it was...

It's an infrared camera. And this footage was shot from "approximately 35 to 40 miles (55-65 km) away."
Can your camera phone do that?
