Chu Chu Rocket (DC) Appreciation Thread

Seeing how its been 5 years now since its release, I think the game deserves a thread. I spent hours upon hours playing this game! So much fun! People I've met through Chu2 have become good friends over the years. It was my first online game, so clans, tourney's, and trash talk were all very entertaining :lol.

While I probably did more chatting than playing, it still was a blast. I will never forget you chu2!

Man, I remember when some guy in one of my games defended his rocket against all of us when the game went into cat mode or whatever those orange things are...it was nuts

I actually enjoyed online play too. Because there was some lag (~1 sec between pressing a button and placing an arrow), you had to slightly alter your multiplayer strategy/gameplay.

Speaking of multiplayer, this is truly one of the best multi/party games ever. Try playing inebriated for some extra fun and challenge :) .

Friday Night Chu2 sessions with pals from a DC message board were the best. I bonded with one of my best friends over Chu Chu :)

It's a shame there's no way to play this game online anymore, because it was one of my favorites. My first online game, too! If a game ever needed a quick PC port with IP play, it's Chooch.

Hmm.. It could probably be done in Flash real easily.

I didn't like the GBA one much either. I barely played it.

The DC one was wonderful though! It was the first console game I ever played online, so it will always have a place in my heart! I loved the puzzle mode!

There was a flash demo for the game too, from what I remember. Someone should find the link! :D

Chu Chu has to be one of the best 4-player multiplayer games.

The button lay-out on the DC, where each button is assigned an arrow direction, worked great, better than GBA button lay-out.

CCR was great! I used to play it online to but after that died I mainly used the disc for its great Dreamkey web browser hehe! CCR still lives on to this day in PSO where the Chu's appear frequently!

i remember i ordered Chu-Chu Rocket online, and when i got it that first day, i played it online all evening...

the next day i ran out in a fricken rainstorm to get a dc keyboard from the Software, Etc in King's Plaza...

A DS version with Wifi online multiplayer would be too much fun. The GBA game is great for now, if only for the extra 2500 puzzles.

I rather liked Sega Swirl. Was it online playable? I just remember playing chu chu all the time when it came out
You played via E-mail. Set up your DC Browser to use Email, and email your moves from one person to the other.

Swirl rocks too. I have it for the PC :D

DS version of Chu Chu could also use the touchscreen, which would probably work far better than cursor/buttons.

Just touch the square you want to place a tile in, and drag in the direction of the arrow you want to place.

Naka hinted that Chu Chu DS might be in the works, going so far as to mention Nintendo asked him for it specifically.

Sega Swirl was free with the Official Dreamcast Mag GDs.

But I don't think was online in europe I might be wrong. The only thing that Europe got in the way of an exclusive online game was Planet Ring - first online console game to use a mic?

This was my first online console game, and the first game I owned that I could play online. Man I remember getting earthlink the day it came out and sitting on tech support to get it working. I could not put this game down. It now sits as a trophy on my desk at work as a Great game, next to NES Final fantasy, Shinning Force 3, Toe jam and Earl, Nes Zelda, and Incredible Crisis. Chu Chu Rocket We Love you!!!

Nothing but good memories about this game. And the ad :lol
Definitely the first console game I took online.
Met a lot of stoners, many of whom did not play the game so well. Afterwards in the chat lobby they'd be like "OMG WE ARE SO HIGH RIGHT NOW!" and good stuff like that.

Chu Chu Rocket is Sonic Team's one flash of absolute brilliance. Then something happened to them and they released tripe like the PSO series.

whoops, sorry. you are incorrect. bye.

the puzzle mode in this game is easily the best puzzle game to come out since.....the puzzle mode in Tetris Attack.

this easily ranks in my top 3 puzzle games of all time.

DS version would be damn godly.

and oh my god, how the fuck has it been 5 years already?!

Japanese DC version > US DC version

For no other reason than the voice samples. In the Japanese version, a Japanese girl would scream "CHU CHU FEVER!!!". It made the game for me. I can't believe they changed that voice for the US release.

Seriously, if SEGA start churning out the compilation games on handhelds, they'd better make a puzzle collection with Chu Chu Rocket, Columns, Baku Baku Animal and SEGA Swirl. Heck, many could have straight up seperate games.

ah....those were the days...

I got my then gf to pick it up for me and when I got online, I totally ignored her.
