Soothsayer
I remember some members of the board digging this band. I love them too. They played some concerts last month to benefit Japan, but they just listed an upcoming one on their Facebook (like 30 minutes ago) and the first reply was "You guys back together?" to which Yuka Honda (keyboard/vocals) responded with "Si senor".

I love this band.

If you've never heard of them http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cibo_Matto

(they had a song on Jet Set Radio Future called Birthday Cake)

Thanks guys!

OP fails to mention "Sugar Water" as the reason people actually heard about this band, thank you Buffy Season 2, Episode 1.

I think he's trying to say that the song was on Jet Set Radio Future, not Jet Grind Radio.

edit: gaffers are always fast as fuck

SHUT UP (and eat!) I know them from Jet Set Radio Future. (YOU KNOW MY LOVE IS SWEET)

I heard about them earlier than that actually! There was a show on MTV back in '95 called Squirt TV and they played on one of the first episodes :D
I heard about them in a CD included with a music magazine (NME I think?) and grabbed Stereoype A because of that. After listening through it, I was hooked!

Also grabbed this if you want to add to OP:

Cool, but is this just for touring or is there new music in the works?

For those who haven't heard of them yet, check out Yuka Honda's other new band with Petra Haden, If By Yes. Very pleasant stuff.

That, I have no idea. I would hope that they're working on new material. Still, I never got a chance to see them live back in the day. Just hearing them play their old stuff would be awesome.

I would love a new album, though.

And If By Yes is pretty cool, yeah.

Wooo! I have their 2 albums and would definitely like more... same with Pavement, but I don't think that'll ever happen (it's like hoping for an Arrested Development film) :-( Still a 3rd studio album by Cibo Matto would be awesome! :-)

Dope news... I felt like the raddest kid at school listening to these guys.

Their "Black Hole Sun" cover makes me feel like a 8 year old kid eating a big bowl of cereal on a rainy Saturday morning. No cartoons, no siblings, just me and the cereal and munch munch munch

That makes no sense reading it, but that's the mental space that song puts me in.

I'll be at the Bowl with bells on. Last I saw they were going to be playing with Buffalo Daughter, who I was beginning to despair of ever catching live.

Sean Lennon is kind of a shitty bass player though and a douche, I hope he's not returning

Agreed, and his voice is annoying on Stereotype A - I don't want to hear him singing on any new releases. When I want to listen to Cibo Matto, I want ONLY Yuka and Miho.

There's kind of three Cibo Matto albums if you want to count Butter 08, which is essentially the same line up and fits pretty well stylistically between Viva and Stereotype.

I won't get my hopes up about a new album (it'd probably be far removed from the original Cibo Matto vibe by this point anyway), but it's cool that they're doing some shows for now.

Trying to decide if I want to go to that show. Also playing Buffalo Daughter and Yellow Magic Orchestra.

Why not? Although the music isn't really up close and personal there, that's one of my favorite venues, and a true perk of living in this teeming megalopolis.

Plus, Buffalo Daughter. :D
