Cities: Skylines 2 "absolutely cannot" have the decade of DLC features that the original game added

Cities: Skylines 2 launches next week, following up a beloved predecessor that got a veritable pile of DLC that dramatically expanded the game's scope over the years. The sequel can't match that at launch, so the devs at Colossal Order set some particular priorities for what to include this time around.

"We absolutely cannot have ten years of Cities Skylines 1 content done" for the launch of the sequel, Colossal Order CEO Mariina Hallikainen says in the latest issue of PC Gamer. As a result, the studio decided to focus on "those things that we feel should have been in the original Cities: Skylines, but we didn't have the time or manpower."

Some of the features added in post-launch updates for the original game that'll be here on day one include natural disasters, day-night cycles, and snowy weather. One feature that the devs particularly wanted to expand on from the original is specialized industry. Hallikainen explains that

if the management part of [Skylines] is your interest, you can definitely go and see detailed information of how it affects [yield] when you support a certain production.

Was really looking forward to this, but according to reviews it seems that it could have used some more time in the oven.

Maybe this is a Paradox issue, their management seems to have gotten pretty bad over the last few years.

I'm happy Cities: Skylines II exists, but this is the type of game (along with some 4X titles) where I would wait the length of at least one expansion for things to be cleaned up before considering buying it.

I think that is perfectly fine (apart from quality of life updates they did to the base game). No one expects Forza Horizon 6 to have the Lego DLC content included :)

This reminds me of when people bought Sims 2/3/4 for $60 and complained that it didn't have as much content as the previous game combined with it's $400 of DLC.

They cant have 10Y of DLC content in base game because they need to sell new DLC with the same content as the old DLC for the new game...Not rocket science.
