Civilization 6 announced, out October 21st

Is it just me, or is the music in Civ 6 a step up from previous incarnations of the game? It seems like I'm really loving every piece of music I hear from the game. The Civ franchise usually has good music, but Civ 6 just seems better so far.

Also, the French medieval theme is fantastic. Wow do I really like that one.

Ooooh, one of my fave late medievla tunes. Nice rendition too.

I think this is a little tease of the opening cinematic:

I'm with you regarding the music, Mengy. This is seriously inspired work. I love that each civ will have its own breathtaking theme that evolves with you.

I hope the AI Battle Royale would show the actual AI in the game and that the preview build wasn't final as far as AI is concerned.

So despite hundreds of hours in each iteration, I've never played online. Is it fun? How does it work?

It can be a pain in the ass. You have to play on quick speed, there is lag, the game might take 5+ hours and you can't leave in the middle, it can take a while to get all the players in the game without dropping, the games can time out in the middle, etc.

It's one of those things where you have to invest a lot of time on the front-end learning all the strategies and nuances before it really gets fun and interesting.

For some resaon I had it in my head multiplayer would be a relaxing time, where you just sit back and wait for people's moves to come in, like maybe you'd get an email notification that it was your turn, lol. Jump on the computer, submit your moves, then go back to what ever it was you were doing.

unless there's war you can set the game to take turns simultaneously. It can be pretty chill with friends. I played a bit and we'd just use skype while playing.

Depends on who you play. I have a friend that's learning the game and we are sharing a game and having a blast. I also used to play with other players a weekly and it was great fun aa well. Although it was far more grindy than your regular game (some were using your typical maximised tactics in the earlt stages and all that stuff I never cared for).

Has anyone who ordered a 25th anniversary edition on Amazon got release date information yet? Mine still says "We'll email you when we get release date information".

My friends and I would get on skype and comp-stomp all the time in Civ IV. It was pretty relaxing and lots of fun. Civ V was a lagfilled shitshow, at least initially, we hadn't tried it after the second expansion so maybe it got better. Hopefully Civ VI is much improved in this regard. Basically you do simultaneous turns and then hit the button and let the AI go.

You know, Baba Yetu still gives me chills when hearing it, even after all of those Civ 4 games and after all of these years.

Same. I wish they'd remake the Civ 4 cinematic with modern technology. The camera panning thought the arrows was great. The small segment of raising the American flag to the Lincoln Memorial is very powerful. I especially like the end transition of space station to cave. I think they don't need so many wonder building clips, though. The time could be better spent showcasing non-Western civ history.

Multiple leaders is a good thing. Me and my friends who into these games have discussed on the bad, and conservative leader pick for a while now. There should be no more bemoaning of Gandhi among us now.

I had ordered from cdkeys in August and now it turns out the key is for EU (various region locked subs were added to steam database 11 days ago) and other websites now show region locks while before they didn't.. I was able to get a refund (customer service was actually pretty great) but now it seems like there are no sales for the game in North America.

gamesplanet.uk has it on sale, but is EU locked. Not sure about region locking on GMG, but Europeans are able to see a 20% discount on the game, but in NA you have to pay full price and are given a 20% voucher you can use on top of VIP savings for a future GMG purchase.

fucking 2k

You could try Bundlestars, maybe? The only version I can see there is an EU version, so not sure if it's any help (they might have a NA version if you're looking at it from a NA IP), but it's worth checking. :)

I checked there also because I remember it having a good discount there, but the price is $59.99 and $79.99, which is same price everywhere else.. Also it says it's region locked to USA and Canada for me (which is fine) so I guess it's tied to your IP.

I just pray the game won't outright prohibit me from trying with an old-ass, 320M equipped notebook. I plan to play on Strategic View on it during LAN parties, so I don't care about smoothness or resolution in those settings.

Buy it from Amazon or Best Buy then and get 20% off.

50%+ of the cities in each remaining Civ need to be converted to your religion.

And all City States

I've put 50 hours into this early build & done 2 religious wins and I don't think it requires all city states -- just that you're the dominant religion among civs. Mind, once you achieve the former the pressure spread means most city states flip anyway.

Also - every time you defeat another unit in theological combat you get a big pressure boon worldwide, which really speeds up this whole meta.

So I just talked to Amazon CS, and they said they don't know if they'll have the Anniversary Edition for Friday.

Have we heard anything about it?

Does anybody know what the "25th Anniversary Soundtrack" entails? Is it Civ 6's OST? Is it a retrospective of the series, redoing old music? A compilation of music from the series?

Damn. Thanks for the heads up. I pre-ordered the game back on September 1st and just sent a CS email to see if my key will activate in Canada or, failing that, get a refund. There's a big difference between getting a game for $50 or $80 CDN.

is there any footage out where this game doesn't look a full generation behind civ 5?

i can happily plug away at utilitarian paradox interfaces, but this clash of clans heinousness is too much.

any footage of it in motion looks worlds better than 5

I preordered the physical copy off Amazon for the prime discount (which is still basically just a Steam code anyway but whatever), but Amazon is still showing Delivery Date Pending. I hope it gets here on Friday.

I was with you till I watched some twitch gameplays. Leader models are great, Lighting is miles ahead of 5, and I do think that the new style improves visibility, something that bothered me a lot in beyond earth. Far from perfect and not the direction I wanted the series to go, but it's clearly an improvement tech-wise. Civ 5 UI is still miles ahead, though.

doesnt really seem like theres any reason not to let people who haven't bought the game through steam to pre-load regardless

i mean you'd still need to put in the code to actually play the game
