Critic Reviews

Checkpoint Gaming - Elliot Attard - 9 / 10

It can't be denied how impressive Civilization VII is as a complete package. This is a franchise that finds a way to continually satisfy, even when compared to its already glowing legacy. Amongst a sea of strategy games, Civilization VII stands tall as a title that understands its identity, shows incredible attention to detail, and lives up to lofty expectations. Future expansions will undoubtedly fill certain notable absences, but even before then, we still have a formidable release that's deservingly ready to eat away at your free time.
Gamepressure - Przemysław Dygas - 5.5 / 10

Right now, Civilization 7 is an incomplete and reduced version of the game, which is plagued by many issues. However, you can feel that under all this mess, a good game might be hiding.
IGN Deutschland - Markus Fiedler - German - 6 / 10

Even if it has great looks: the interior of the latest instalment of the Civilization series is not very inspiring. Some good ideas are counterbalanced by a lot of bad ones. The biggest problem: it no longer feels like a Civilization-Game! Here, the developers have definitely made too many radical changes.
Spaziogames - Daniele Spelta - Italian - Unscored

Civilization VII – just like every chapter in the series – is a game that should be appreciated over time, especially in a case like this, where the radical desire to take a step towards the future is evident.
XboxEra - Booth Babe - 8.6 / 10

The core elements of the game are there, they work and it’s fun to play. The incentives and dynamism that the new approach to Civilization switching with the legacy paths will keep the game fresh both across games and within them. Abandoning games after about 80 turns was a big issue for me in the last few titles. I’ve not had the notion to do that yet.

I'm hoping for high 80 low 90s score. Lets go but probably not from experience MC Score goes even lower after time.
R Randall365 Dude, its not Switch exclusive, that would be insane.

Switch timed exclusive!?

If you had a time machine and told someone waiting for Civ V that Civ VII would be a Switch timed exclusive you would blow their mind.

It has one of those early access special edition things. It comes out on the 5th for people paying for the like $120 dollar edition.

Personally as much as I’m feeling FOMO right now I’m going to just finish up the last achievements I have in Civ 5 and then start on Civ 6.

I’m not a huge fan of how they keep “streamlining” certain systems. It also seems like they are flirting with some sort of loot box or battle pass system or micro transactions with how there is some sort of level up system for the leaders that was locked out of all the review/preview builds.

To be this is one of those things where the game will launch broken day 1. Day 3 they are going to launch some sort of monetization scheme once reviews are out. Even though the “complete” edition is $120. I’m doing what I normally do and just wait at least a year for them to rebalance the game and for it to come down to a reasonable price

The changes didn't sound appealing when I read about them. You don't always need to reinvent the wheel. Just make sure the fundamentals are outstanding.

I'm surprised by the amount of low(er) scores. This entry didn't look appealing to me at all, but I expected journalists to eat it up. Will be interesting to see how this develops.

Ichave a feeling that since Civ V every game releases barebones, with less countries to choose and a lot of add-ons from the get go or planned for future releases.

Not cool

It feels funny to say this, but I don't think people buying this game cares about the initial review scores that much.

Edit: Wait, what in the fuck, why is it a timed Switch exclusive. Ok, it's "just" a few days. But this is a classic PC gamer's game. Why would they try to piss off their main user base. So bizarre..

I don’t like the idea of separating leaders from the civs and being forced to swap as it breaks from history and limits the amount of players, but I’ll have to try it first.

What bothers me is the amount of content and how there is seemingly a cut contemporary/future age that will probably come in the form of a dlc. The last game in the series came out NINE years ago, that seems unacceptable.

Civ 7 is coming out?

Means it’s time to finally check if Civ6 is complete yet and I can maybe purchase it.
Civ6 is almost finished.
i would wait a bit longer tho, for all the bugs to go away

I was already a bit worried when I saw all the pre-order dlc options and the woke choice of leaders.

But I want to see how it runs on a Switch 2 first.

This quote from the Gamespot review sounds absolutely terrible.

Another factor to consider is that each era transition is basically a soft reset for all players. Once the progress meter hits 100% due to turn advancements or Legacy milestones, all construction projects, wonders, and related missions end abruptly--for everyone. One moment, you might be actively participating and enjoying tasks like sending out treasure fleets or spreading your religion far and wide, and the next, those mechanics are gone for good. Even all your units, regardless of where they might be, are removed from the map, only for period-specific variants to spawn randomly across your empire at the start of the next age. The concept itself would be the equivalent of Mehmed the Conqueror arriving at the gates of Constantinople, only to get magically teleported to Edirne because the Aztecs discovered the last holy relic that they needed.

Is it really woke? Or is it a rather educated spin on the history where you find leaders you like as a dev?

I have the strange feeling i will like this Civilization, i don't mind choosing different Nations each age and i like the idea of having 3 different ages.
Also having less clicks and more important decisions sounds also awesome to me.

It's cool if you're not interested in the game or are willing to wait but I still believe this game is going to deliver and will let you know one way or the other. I don't really trust these journoslop sites to tell me about strategy games.

The fuck? Part of the whole appeal of Civ is that you seamlessly go throughout the history of the people you're playing. It suddenly switching things up on you like there's been a time skip sounds like it would feel as if you are playing a series of vignettes.

Not surprised. Civ V was an absolute mess at launch, but became excellent after several expansions, namely from the Gods and Kings expansion. Civ 6 is just boring and ugly and they never managed to fix that. Beyond Earth was awful.

Not surprised by these scores.
