Hope something like this occurs for Madeline McCann at some point. And of course all the other abducted children, but Maddy McCann is the big one. I remember I was in Spain whilst that happened. Very scary.

Still don't get how Amanda gave birth in a house and no neighbors heard screaming during the birth, only thing I can think of is soundproofed walls or something.

I can't wait for an update, this is just baffling.

Phillip Garrido was sentenced to 431 years imprisonment
As someone who isn't well versed in the justice system, what the fuck is the point in giving someone 431 years over 331? or 400? Clearly the piece of shit isn't going to live 1/4th of that so whats the point?

I know i must be missing something because it just sounds absurd to me.

Thats what that German guy did when he had multiple kids. No one knows it cause he soundproofed it.

The guy who's house the women were kept in is a musician. He could have had sound proofing through the house with the explanation it was for his music. Might explain why no one heard them.

Also during the news conference the police said that chains and handcuffs were found in the room the women were in.

I think it's because in the US you'll be charged for each crime individually. So he'll get 60 for that and 30 for the other one etc. etc.

The sentences run consecutively mostly to prevent any possibility of parole (sometimes life without parole isn't an option for the specific crimes) and perhaps to a lesser degree to send a symbolic message. When you apply sentencing guide lines to all the individual charges and add them up, that's just where you end up.

To everyone in this thread boggling over the fact that they gave birth in the home: childbirth existed a long time before modern medicine.

I understand that, but conditions were not optimal, no midwife, no doctor, no prenatal care. Kinda crazy still.

That's part of why there are rumors that it may have not been the only birth in the house. This one girl may have just been the only one that survived. I really hope they aren't true.

Terrible story with a positive ending. I just can't imagine how they were able to get away with it for so long. I keep thinking about Holly Bobo that disappeared two years ago and wonder if she's being held somewhere.

Who the hell is Sylvia Brown?

Shes the "psychic" who cashes in on other peoples pain and suffering.

I shitty scam artist that Montel put(s? not sure if it's still on) on his show constantly.
Also add quack to the list.

It's not the fact that they did give birth, it's that no one in the neighborhood heard it. But the guy above made a good point about soundproofing since the guy was a "musician". Also it's a wonder there were no complications considering I doubt these guys are medically trained or knowledgable and if they are goddamn.

thank god they were alive. what an ordeal...10 years.

i hope those scumbag brothers spend the next 100 years in prison. fucking lowlives.

hopefully she gets exposed for the liar she is. people like her are disgusting.

She still got attention after telling a woman her husband was under water somewhere and that people were searching for his body in the wrong place. He was a firefighter that died on 9/11... When the woman said where he died Sylvia tried to say he was trying to put out a fire and drowned.

Holy crap. I lived in Cleveland for 27 years and I don't ever remembering hearing about this. But I never pay attention to local news so I probably just missed it.

Thankfully these girls were found alive.

The apparent daughter of Ariel Castro is serving 25+5 year sentence for slashing her 11-month old baby's throat

Before she was sentenced to 25 years in prison, Emily Castro wanted a judge to know she was a good mother.

But the 20-year-old could offer no explanation for why she slashed her 11-month-old daughter’s throat last April, leading to charges of attempted murder and battery. The girl, Janyla, has since made a full recovery.
Speaking on behalf of his sister, Ariel “Anthony” Castro described the torturous last 10 months, in which his family nearly lost both a grandchild and her mother.

“What happened to Janyla was serious, unthinkable and irreversible,” he said, reading from a statement. “What happened to my sister is no less serious.”

Emily Castro’s mental illness was something the family saw every day, and it was regrettable it failed to meet the legal definition of insanity, her brother said.

She was not an “animal who tried to kill her daughter out of revenge,” he said, describing his sister as a proud mother who put together scrapbooks in anticipation of Janyla’s first birthday.

Charles was just interviewed by the local NBC affiliate. This guy is awesome. Some choice quotes:

"I'm not a hero. I'm just an American and human. I heard a woman in distress and went to help, like anyone else would have."

"I got my entourage over here. Believe me, if we had known what was going on over there, the police never would have gotten a call. We would have taken care of that ourselves."

"I'm ok. If I could get my hands on this guy, then I'll be alright."

This guy needs his own reality show.

Have the girls spoke yet?

All we know so far is that they're in "fair" condition, and at least one of them had a child?

This story is going to get worse and worse as more details come out. More people (e.g., family of the kidnappers) must be involved at some level.

With all this horror, it almost feels wrong to have too much focus on the Charles interviews, but in a way it's cathartic. He's definitely the inspiring, America Fuck Yeah part of the story.
