Crazy story. I'm just glad that they are safe now but that must have been a hellish decade for them.
Weird, but I felt she was implying every nice guy is a rapist you need to watch out for.

Nothing with what she said, just how she said it.

I just wanted to point out that not all males are rapists. Of which there are plenty nice ones of.
okaaaaaay....

thanks for enlightening us

There are rumors this morning from some Cleveland media that police will or have begun digging up the backyard where the women were found.

Man, listening to a local radio show there is some pretty crazy stuff that is getting rumored or alleged.

RMG? :lol (same thing I was listening to)

Oh God that interview. Reporter couldn't get away from him fast enough as soon as he started in with the 'Deeead Give Away' stuff.

Man...wtf

I just don't understand how this kind of shit happens. How do you not get to know your neighbors at all? Christ I can hear my neighbor's infant when it cries sometimes and their house is much much further removed from me than these houses are from each other.

I mean I kinda understand the Jaycee Dugard one...it was 1 girl. The property was huge and they were living in tents out back. This though is a neighborhood with houses one on top of another. How does this go on for a decade with no one knowing or even questioning? A whole family being a part of it? Goddamnit, it pisses me off and scares me and I don't even know....

It's great they are free now, but how do you move on with your life after something like this? I can't even imagine

No, that's probably the worst possible interpretation of what she said. She was saying that preconceived notions of criminals, i.e. they must be sneaky/weird/evil/"other" people, are foolish, since any "nice" person can be a criminal deep down.

Seriously.

You sound like a nice guy.

Meh. I mean, where I grew up I knew pretty much all my neighbors. Here in the city though I tend not to give a fuck.

I understand not giving a fuck...when I lived in a downtown area I didn't either. But living that close to each other in areas like that (no yards between houses), you hear things. It strains credibility to believe nothing unusual happened in over a decade.

I have lived in my house for almost nine years. I know the first names of my neighbors on one side, the full name of the guy on the other side (only because he's a distant relative of a good friend of mine), and the last name of the family across the street. I don't know anyone else at all.

Apparently the cops were called to the house in 2004 for some reason. No details as to why yet.

Edit: Children and family services were doing an investigation on Ariel in 2004 dealing with leaving a kid on the bus when he took the bus back to the depot. When the cops went to the house in 2004 there was either no one there or they didn't go in.

As a bus driver in 2004, he left a kid on the bus. Police went to his home to follow up. No contact made.

Kind of a strange coincidence but last nights Hawaii Five-0 was about a girl who was kidnapped and held in a house for 10 years. Eventually they kidnapped another young girl and killed the older one to replace her.

I guess it could have been a rerun they switched to at the last second when this story from Cleveland broke.

The one reporter pretty much blaming a lack in questioning in 2004 for the girls not being found is just dumb. The two cases had absolutely nothing to do with each other.

Some of these comments praising Charles by calling him a blessing are fucked up. Where was god while these girls were being held captive?!

Man how horrible. I think at one point I would have been completely shocked this kind of thing happens but considering where I volunteer at, I'm not that shocked.

There was a case here where the abuser kept his victim locked in the house (as in there were locks both inside & outside the house.) The victim managed to escape thanks to this one instance where the perp did not have time to lock the door like usual. That was her one window of opportunity. It was a really fucked up case. Police almost fucked it up too.

I'm glad these girls managed to escape.

Jesus, a year ago the city followed a lead from an inmate that said he knew where the body was. When the local fox news station did a segmant on it the brother of Ariel, one of the men in custody, was asked for a comment and he said it was a waste of money.

Slight chance it's not the same Pedro Castro, but it seems likely it's him.

Way to be glass half empty. The girls were rescued, that's a positive thing.

Wonder what other details will come out. Pretty pathetic act.

Hey Charles, come on over for a BBQ. We don't have a police force here, so everything's cool.

It's a shame the little girl is probably too old to be sheltered from the truth.

Crazy story. Charles is awesome.

I was trying to read around about these women, there seems to be a ton of stuff online about Berry and Gina, but not Knight for some reason.

Wow...

And here's a news story quoting him:

Amanda Berry's mom died during her captivity? Man, like losing 10 years of your life isn't enough. :(

I can't imagine how difficult this must be for the families of these girls.

Your sister disappears at age 14 a decade ago. You know nothing about what happened to her, and you have to accept it. But everyday you think about her, even if you try not to, and there's a palpable void in your heart, your home. And slowly you just have to accept that she's probably dead, but without any closure it's hard to completely come to terms with. You don't want to.

Then you find out she's been held prisoner in some sicko's basement all this time. Alive. What does she look like? What's she thought about? Has she prayed you'd save her?

It's all so overwhelming I'm getting emotional thinking about this story.
