Back in the day he used to remind me of Bruce Willis, you know what? We need some Tom Hanks up in here.

I'm not sure even Tom Hanks would be able to portray such a complicated character.
"Ok, and in the next scene I want you to look tough and fire a gun."
"Which scene are you talking about?"
"Doesn't matter."

Fixed because it's Hollywood, guys.

Sci-fi alien movie? Gotta hit your go-to guy, right?

I actually like most of his action movies.

still wrong for the part

for a movie that should never ever happen

gayest thing I've ever posted

I could care less who they get to play Marcus.

However, if Terry Tate does not play Cole, there will be...consequences...

Seriously, Tate does the voice for Cole, and can at least act enough to pull off the part. As far as I'm concerned, Cole is already cast

After seeing Shoot Em Up I'd be all for Clive Owen in a Gears movie.

As long as he plays Carmine.
After seeing Shoot Em Up I'd be all for Clive Owen quitting acting altogether*. Not even Monica Bellucci's tits could redeem that cinematic atrocity.

I don't know how anyone could consider Clive Owen to be a good actor. He is completely incapable of displaying any emotion. Like Roger Moore without the eyebrow skills. Actually, talking about eyebrow-based acting, maybe Ross Kemp could play Fenix?... He's used to playing Super Army Soldiers.

And Robert Downey Jr. should play Cole.

*Thinking about his performance in Extras, I take that back.

I just realised, instead of giving an actor 6 months of bodybuilding lessons, why not just give a wrestler 6 months of acting lessons?

Acting lessons with Patrick Stewart :p

"Dom! Make it so."[/QUOTE]
He's been in pro wrestling for almost a decade now; has no charisma and can't say a line without flubbing it... the only way Patrick Stewart can improve his acting abilities is to wear a muscle suite and pretend to be him.

Or the writers can keep his lines to 4 or less, then heavily dub over it, and any action scenes involving him not have any cardiovascular activities ('cause he can't even walk down the ramp without gassing out).

The dude from Prison Break would be decent enough but IMO they should make a movie set in the Gears universe but not featuring Marcus/Dom at all. There are so many different squads in the COG army and I'm sure there are many different stories to be told. I think they should simply tell the story of Echo squad or Bravo squad etc. Just have the game set around Emergence day and show the day from the perspective of other Gears, we're already seeing the stories of Marcus/Dom, show us some other soldiers instead please. It would also be cool to see the reaction from the governments of Sera to the sudden Locust emergence, as well as the reactionary formation of the Coalition of Ordered Governments. Epic have actually created a great universe with a lot of untapped potential (hopefully Gears 2, the upcoming novels and comic books will get the ball rolling.)

There are tons of actors in Hollywood that could play cool Gears. Why limit your choices to those that sound or look like Marcus? Create new characters and cast your net wider, that way you're not limited by the source material.

Also Marcus Fenix probably isn't even that large. He'd probably be your standard 6'0 190lb guy. The armour is incredibly bulky and makes the Gears look bigger than they actually are. The only Gears that are incredibly large are Cole, and maybe Dom who has pretty ripped arms.

Saying that a Gears movie shouldn't focus on Marcus, Dom, Baird and Cole is like saying a Justice League movie should focus on Booster Gold and Plastic Man instead of Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and Batman. I mean, if you're not any of the primary characters that audiences are familiar with and have empathized with, who the hell are you? Besides, I don't see what characters they could add that wouldn't just come off as carbon copies of any one of the established characters.

The grizzled leader? Marcus.
The best friend who keeps the grizzled leader in check and also acts as a shoulder to cry on? Dom.
The guy who thinks the grizzled leader is a moron and he should be the one in charge? Baird.
The one minority character who is almost a racist stereotype but isn't? Cole (:D)
The superior officer who doesn't take any crap from the grizzled leader? Colonel Hoffman.
The hot chick? Anya.

If anything, I would actually argue that fewer people who be interested in the movie if it didn't center around Delta Squad, and instead focused on characters that no one has ever heard of.

What is Cliffy thinking?

GoW is an awesome game, but its unlikely the sort of title to yield anything approaching a serious, dramatic script. I can't imagine he thinks Clive would be interested.

I disagree.
While I'm a huge fan of Gears, and personally love the characters, I know a LOT of people that do not give a flying fuck about the 2D stereotyped characters. They are there for the OTT blood, guts, action and Locust enemies. For a lot of people the best 'character' in Gears is the Lancer :lol

There are many other different types of war film character.
The quiet soldier just trying to survive
The young, optimistic, carefree rookie
The psycho who's in his element among the chaos and gore
The good honest all American family man who acts as a father figure
etc.

I know some of these elements are in already established Gears characters, but the point is that they certainly haven't exhausted every avenue as far as war charters are concerned, and I think so long as the movie still contains the weapons, Locusts, and violence it'll still very much feel like Gears. When you watched Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, or The Thin Red Line did you care that you didn't know the characters before hand? If handled correctly Gears could be a proper war film, not just a mundane sci-fi action movie based on a game (which is unfortunately probably what it'll end up being.)

Clive Owen did do "Shoot 'Em Up", though, so you never know.

Love how you play Cliff as an ignorant and then you take a sip in your own pool of ignorance.

Since when does Clive Owen only do "serious, dramatic" stuff? :lol

Have you seen Shoot Em Up by any chance?

the story in Shoot Em Up makes Gears look like it should win a Pulitzer.

They should just get Hanks and Spielberg to do a sci-fi version of a Band of Brothers. They could parallel it with the war in Iraq and sidestep the acceptance issues that have been plaguing all the other films based on that war. I think the Starship Troopers Chronicles would make a good template.

What about John Di Maggio - the guy that doies his voice? It's kind of like asking who I would want to play Snake. I can't imagine anyone else but David Hayter.

Holy shit, he was Wakka and Kimahri in FFX? And a Brute Chieftan in Halo 3? And Dr. Drakko from Kim Possible? :o *Mindblown*

A "real" actor?

Quit talking Clifford, the more you do the more you resemble a hollow product spokesperson and less like a respectable game developer.

Very much so
Cliffyb is close to becoming a joke(reading recent interviews make it worse)

rofl like they would use the characters from the game.

it's bad enough they are acceptable if not even high quality by video game standards. In film....it would be laughable.

but to be on topic..Clive has way more class and presence than any video game character has or can be given.

Homeboy from Prison Break (Dominic?) would in fact be the perfect choice.....especially since he's GOTTA be cheap.

Mickey Rourke is actually a phenomonal choice as the Marcus Fenix lead. Mainly because he not only fits the role perfectly but also sound like Marcus F as well. Give him a shit patch under his lip and a bandana and commence win.

The thing is is cliffyb sees GoW as something incredibly serious and shoot em up never even tried

Stop being such a tool.

He describes his game as the Jerry Bruckheimer kind of gig, so stop spreading bs. Seriously, here's a guy that does nothing wrong and gets shit from some people, but then you have these fucking wackos like Kojima and shit, that get their dicks sucked.
