Clock Tower 3 underrated? I think so

i got up to the scissorman/woman stage and got sidetracked into other games

but i did enjoy what i played. enough to be buying haunting ground next month...

perhaps i'll go back to CT3 in preperation

I agree that despite the stale gameplay this one is worth playing. The sheer brutality of the murder scenes is shocking. It's as gory as Manhunt, though perhaps even more disturbing because you're watching women and children get knocked around!

I too thought CT3 was pretty decent. The controls sucked, the camera sucked, and the level layouts were bad...but the whole running away from a variety of crazy psycho killers while solving a mysteries plot was kinda fun. It kinda reminds me of a crappier Eternal Darkness.

I don't really like the way they went with CT4/Demento though. Big dumb guy <<<< any of the CT3 villians and making gameplay revolve around using a dog is going to be awful >_<

Clock Tower series is underrated imo as well. If you like the clock tower games, take a look at the upcoming game Demento by Capcom.

I'm about a few hours into it and it's very similar to the clock tower game plus some new neat gameplay elements and effects that are very much based on the clock towers game. I'll write an impression sometimes if someone makes a thread about it.

The cinematics are pretty kick ass, and that's because they were done by Battle Royale director Kinji Fukasaku (RIP). The movies compelled me enough to keep on playing the game until I finished it--something I might not have done given how average the actual game play itself was.

If you're a fan of his work, CT3 definitely belongs in your collection. A movie viewer option pops up once you complete the game, though I'm sure you can download someone's save game off the net somewhere.

Although it's horribly, horribly dated today, the original Clock Tower is the scariest game I've ever played. The acting was bad even back then, but the adrenaline rush you got hiding from scissorman was amazing. I will never forget that game.

CT3 was a decent game, but some of the later enemies just got a little too cheesy. It would have been scarier if they didn't talk, or talked less. Alot less. Although I do have to admit some of the death scenes in CT3 were totally awesome and brutal. The girl getting bashed over the head with a giant hammer comes to mind.

I'd talk more about the game but I really don't remember much of it-- it's been forever since I played it.

I have one of the first two for the PS (I think it was 2). It was just not fun... scary as hell tough. Well, maybe not, I played it when I was 10 or 11 I think, and I wasn't brave :lol

I remember never finishing it (got to the level after the hospital. I think it was the morgue?), anyone care to tell me what was in the end of it? :p

I'll pick up CT3 when it's cheap enough. I guess it's 20$ right now, but I'll wait for 5-10 (if it is in this range, link me up :D)

Actually, it's not that bad. I managed to play through it about half a year ago, and I loved it.

Now, the prequel on the SNES... It might even be freakier. I don't understand how, but one of the scariest games I've played is on the SNES, and this was just a couple of years ago (when the English rom patch showed up).

That's something that sticks with me even now, when I saw that hammer scene i was like "wtf?!" totally sick and brutal. I also never finished the game, but similarly got sidetracked by other games at the scissorman/scissorwomen stage. they were kind of corny in comparison to the previous stage villains, though the voices of those characters might have had more to do with it. The whole hide and chase concept was kinda fun, though a little tiring afterawhile.

You must have a stronger tolerance than me-- although I probably could have played through it again if I pushed myself, just the overall package felt dated to me and I chalked it up to a fond memory. And I never knew there was an SNES clock tower--- what was it called? Any info?

That's funny because that's the EXACT stage I stopped playing on.

Yeah, the brutality in the game is pretty extreme. Of course, so was the control. It was enjoyable though, but nothing too memorable.

Clock Tower. Japan-only, so I guess it'd be a Super Famicom game, technically. The Clock Tower we got for the PSOne is technically Clock Tower 2. US Clock Tower 2 was a side-story in Japan, and CT3 evens things out.

The original plays very much like PSX Clock Tower, only with less random encounters. And it might look better from the artistic viewpoint, since it isn't first-gen 3D. Some group released a rom translation a few years back.

To make matters even more confusing, the original Clock Tower was also ported to the PSOne in Japan.

Not two days ago I was thinking of buying Clock Tower 3 from EBgames.com but then I checked out the review from IGN and it completely turned me off on it. I really enjoyed CT1. Never beat it or made much progress but (at the age of 11 or 12) it scared the crap out of me like no other game.

The game had great scares/atmoshere as mentioned, but I swear to God you could NEVER get away from the guy chasing you. You'd get away, and then one or two screens later, he's back. My girlfriend (who loves the series) and I couldn't stand it for more than a couple hours.

Great production values...that's about the only thing special about CT3, IMO. I felt the changes to the gameplay, making it feel more standard with a standard boss encounter at the end of each segment, took away from the more interesting feel the first (PS1) games had. CT on the PS1 is still the best, IMO. It should've stay that way, minus the mouse control. I really dug the cinematics in CT3...that's really it.
