Cloud's lame. In fact, nearly all of Square's characters suck ass.

Yuri from Shadow Hearts on the other hand, now that's badass.

Or maybe Edge, I mean, the guy did kill his own parents. Thats pretty badass.
 
Cecil *was* a badass before he turned into a paladin.

I liked Squall for the most part. He hated his friends (rightfully so, they were all goddamn annoying - just looking at Zell's face would be enough to piss me off on a regular basis) and got shit done.

Auron might be a halfway decent character but he's in the worst Final Fantasy game ever. Decent battle system, everything else is shit.

Thank God somebody said Barrat.. Not only does he have a gunarm put he can replace with a ball of metal that he...get this... hits you with...and it does more damage than a gun!

They go out of their way to befriend this emotional cripple, and he repays them for it by treating them like shit for most of the game. that's why i just couldn't play the game.

Why would i want to play as a total cockface?
 
Cloud is my favorite character in the FF-verse, but for pure badassedness...Auron is the king.

I'm not sure that I agree with Squall hating his friends. That's going a little far. He was isolated and insular and did his best to seem apathetic, but I think he did care. Yeah he was emtionally scarred, but some people are. At least he came around in the end.

I think he was perfectly justified in hating his friends. They were the most annoying Final Fantasy cast until FFX. I only liked Squall because he thought that same thing about his friends that I did.

He couldn't just avoid them like I would in real life. They just joined his party and I don't remember there being an option to kick them out. Can you imagine being forced to travel around the world and fight evil with 6 incompetent and highly annoying people? I'm still surprised he didn't find a way to off Zell early on in the game.

Seriously, you could even see in the movie Sephiroth was more powerful then Cloud. If it wouldn't be for his limit break (just like in the game), Cloud would lose.
 
True, the FF8 side characters were really annoying. Almost as annoying as Squall himself.

I still contest that Square focused the game on the wrong crew with FF8. Laguna and co. would have made a really cool game.
 
Squall did not hate his friends.

He just doesn't like inane and worthless conversations, or doing things that are a stupid waste of time so he shrugs them off in hopes that they will just leave him the fuck alone.

This man speaks the truth. Kain conquers all. And the fact that it was damn near impossible to trust the bastard as well. How many times did he betray you in the game just to keep coming back and kick asses from here to right over there?

I loved when he would jump early battle, a few turns would pass, then out of nowhere he comes crashing down dealing death and judgement.

I think what this thread should be is who was the most badass PER game, not overall.

FFIV: Kain
FFVI: Sabin(man beats bitches barehanded)
FFVII: Cid
FFVIII: could care less
FFIX: Vivi
FFX: could care less.
