Code Warrior for PSP Leaked!

Source: psphacks
It would seem that someone at Metrowerks got careless. On the public FTP for MetroWerks' site, there is a link which someone accidentally left the admin's username and password embedded in the link. Using that link brings up nothing, however, visiting other metrowerks' ftp sites allows login and download (and probably other permissions too) of all the files on the site, including, yes, CodeWarrior 1.1 for the PSP. Some (if not all) of those files probably are not meant for public view.

I guess it's pretty useless without an actual hardware kit, but I'm sure people will get a better understand of the unit's operation.

I think a certain system admin is getting themselves in trouble right now.

Cheers,
bbyybb.

Wait, so official development software for the PSP has been leaked? :lol

Considering the many buffer overflows that occur when doing JPEG|MP4 browsing I would say it's just a matter of weeks.

As soon as someone figures out how to execute homebrew on the memory card, all of my spare time goes to figuring a way to play SNES games on the PSP.*

*That's not to say I'd actually work on an SNES emulator, I'd just salivate staring at the monitor until someone else did it.

No sir, YOUR BANNED!
You might want to edit your post again. Simply hinting at the banned phrase like that will also get you banned.

I can already play Beats of Rage, Mame and ScummVM on the go. It's called a PDA. They've existed for years and do all the extraneous functions of the PSP. Heck, with MMPlayer you can play divx files natively.

Maybe the dev suite is for the most part useless without a kit, but might it contain the secure key (or a key generator) that could be used to validate homebrewn software for execution? Or would that be handled by a seperate program or device?

you cant play psp games on a pda

Of course, along with homebrew stuff, hackers could eventually write new firmware to replace the current bootup menu to automatically include RSS feeds and email. That would be nifty. And humorously enough, even a possible Pictochat-compatible program. Someone's already broke the encryption on it.

It would be foolish to download those files. And even if they downloaded the sdk, i'm pretty sure that executables must be signed with sony's key to work

How many times do we have to go through this. Developers don't produce their own production discs, Sony does, so all software goes through Sony before going to production.

Now guess where it gets signed.

Reminds me of Microsoft's XDK leak, I bet they're still kicking themselves over that.

They must be kicking themself really damn hard, because there's a whole bunch of versions of the XDK out now. One just came out that was a special release for in-house developers only (think Halo 2).

A touch screen is used for most interfaces.
That's the worst thing. Using touch screen instead of regular buttons is very yucky. I play emulators on PDAs for years now, but even I would love to see those emulators on PSP, as it has better screen and better gaming controls than any PDA.

Snippy. We are talking about a development utility, and I doubt developers ask Sony to press new discs every time they change a line of code and want to test it out. So my thought pattern was that maybe it could generate the key for testing on a normal PSP.

But then again, most likely the games are tested on a Dev PSP (the hardware mentioned above), not a normal unit, so my thought is probably invalid. But it was just a question.

Is this actualliy the XDK equivalent on PSP?
Nope.

Wait, so official development software for the PSP has been leaked
No, official development software for PSP is made and distributed by Sony.
Metrowerks is one of the 3rd parties that provide alternatives.

This is just a compiler suite - if you want the rest of the SDK (hardware docs, libraries etc.) you'll have to wait for someone at Sony to leak.
Not to mention you'd need to crack Metrowerks licensing scheme before you could use this to begin with.

Well if you want to test with an actual UMD disc, then yes, that's exactly what you have to do.
