Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller and Alison Sudol are starring in the Warner Bros. film.

Colin Farrell is ready to cast a spell.

The Irish actor has joined the cast of Warner Bros.' Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which will star Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller and Alison Sudol.

Farrell will play Graves, a wizard that Newt Scamander (Redmayne) meets in New York. The story centers on Newt's adventures in the secret community of witches and wizards as he attempts to document magical creatures. The events of Fantastic Beasts take place 70 years before Harry Potter reads Newt's book in school. Dan Fogler also was recently cast in the film.

David Yates is directing the return to J.K. Rowling's wizarding world, and Rowling wrote the script.

Potter producer David Heyman is back as producer, this time accompanied by Rowling. Steve Kloves, who wrote seven out of the eight Potter movies, and Lionel Wigram are also producing. The film is set for release on Nov. 18, 2016.

Great casting.

He is going to think Ronald is his real son?

I really wish it wasn't David Yates directing.

Cool cast though. Hope the story is more of an adventure with fantastic beasts rather than battling bad wizards and witches featuring 10 minutes of fantastic beasts.

i'd be cooler with new york wizards and american hogwarts if it took place in modern times rather than 70 years ago tbh

yeap

i'd be okay with this if it was literally anyone else. so fucking uninspiring

as it stands, with yates, hate-his-face Redmayne, and all the other bits... yeah.. this is just lame to me

It wouldn't fit the HP lore though.

As for Yates, he did great with the previous movies, so why not.

I didn't know they were doing a spin-off. I haven't read the books yet but are they good enough to warrant a movie adaptation?

cause it's supposed to be different from the HP movies, it's a very different setting and a very different cast of characters

they were already cool at first with mixing it up during the first HP movies

if it werent for Alfonso Cuaron making the best of the bunch the later ones (and the image of Harry Potter in film today) would look as dreadfully boring as any Chris Columbus thing

just really safe and boring

so much potential in this universe to make things even look cool and very different. it'd be great to get some other directors take on this stuff. a lot of untapped shit.

Lots around here seems to label everything "safe and boring." Maybe this stuff isn't just for some of you? It seems like it has to be some Malick arthouse thing to be considered good or something. It's a Harry Potter spinoff.

The movie isn't really based around the book (which is actually a 100-something page textbook based on the ones in the HP series), but a story about the adventures of the author.

Yates work on HP5-7.2 was just so... bland. They are decent adaptations but lack any flair.

That said, excited for this but I too thought it was farther away. Hope Farrel wears mustache.

The book is literally a whimsical little encyclopedia - there's no story to adapt. The movies are an entirely new story by Rowling about the fictional writer's life.

Nah.

7.1 is wildly underrated, the second best directed in the film series, and the dance scene is the best scene in the series.

Come at me bro.

They're fantasy novels. Is it really too much to ask for a little imagination?

i'd say safe and boring about any director doing 4 films out of the same book series and then announcing the new one is by him too

specially when it wasnt the case at the start

when do I mention good or bad? I specifically said "I'd be okay with" "I'd prefer". They might be great movies but I can't get excited about them this way and help to feel like wasted potential.

Good acting and tremendous atmosphere thanks to his direction and cinematography as well, and I could say the same about the others he made too.

I get you, but I think he's did good so far and he's had a four year break from the series. Who knows what he might bring to the table. :)

I don't have a problem with Yates. He's no Cuaron but he did good work on the latter half of the Potter franchise.

lets hope

I'm actually just waiting on a trailer and stuff. I really don't know what to expect from it. I'm not automatically hyped just because it's a Harry Potter thing. I think the directing will be fine as well as the acting obviously, but it could either interest me or not. I liked Harry Potter because of the story that was being told there but with this I just have no idea.

I actually thought they deviated from the books more than the prior films. I really disliked the last 3 movies he did. OotP was decent.

The cast for this film is pretty cool, but under Yates I'm not expecting much.

My only thing was the omission of the Voldemort backstory stuff in HBP which I felt made the book, but it was still an extremely well done film. But then again I don't really give that much of a shit about changes or whatever as long as the core story is there.
