In my experience, all of those places have much wider range of opinions than NeoGAF. People here are claiming Colin has made, and I quote, "blatantly" racist comments, without providing any evidence that could remotely satisfy the definition of blatant. A lot of people around the Internet are talking about this and yet NeoGAF is the only place (except for the Twitter accounts and blogs of professional game journalists like Arthur Gies) where anyone is making such forceful condemnations, let alone writing short essays about it and patting eachother on the back for doing so.

When the rhetoric here is so extreme, with so little evidence, and so far out of line with the rest of the discussion, I call that an echo chamber.

I can use a euphemism if you'd prefer.

I think you're picking out certain posts and then falsely claiming that everyone is calling him a blatant racist which in turn fits your narrative that GAF is an echo chamber. I've seen very few if anyone claim he is just as bad as say JonTron or Richard Spencer. He does however voice support for some blatant racists though.

Just because you claim the rhetoric here in general is so "extreme" does not make it so.

Colin was there to bring everyone to ground level, and in most cases, offer a polarising opinion, which in turn, makes for interesting content. His injection of data and statistics also gave their videos a more critical outlook.

Colin is effectively what keeps me watching their videos, but I'll see how they cope with him gone.

Can someone catch me up on what else he's said? I stayed away from this thread because I felt there wasn't anything to discuss about his departure because it's done.

Anyway, from watching/listening/reading his work for year, I at the very least respected him because I could sympathize although disagree(on games as well) with what seemed to be a fiscal conservative/small government viewpoint but at least a more liberal stance on social issues. Another gaffer alerted me on Twitter when he made his shitty joke on #ADayWithoutWomen and told me that he doubled down on it when I asked if he had apologized yet. It wasn't surprising to me that he doubled down because I felt like he was the type that complains about people being outraged and there is also a lot of arrogance there. I'm disappointed in him but that's fine and I'll wish him the best of luck either way.

As for KindaFunny, Colin is a big loss for them even though Greg has always been the most popular one. I do kind of feel for Greg(and everyone else) because I know this is/was hard on him and I hope he is able to understand both sides of the whole ordeal not feel bitter.

In the end, I won't continue to follow him from now on but I wish him no ill will.

The guy has issues and needs to talk to someone. Becoming so angry and offended over a blog article and written by someone who's marginalized, is very alarming. Regardless, stop sticking your head in the sand, because his actions should be a clear indication of how much support he's actually willing to give to marginalized groups and the things he wants to advocate.

There is no us vs them, I am not part of any gaming community. I play video games. That's it. This bullshit us vs them mentality gots to stop. This is why you have so many issues everywhere.

To be honest I'm kinda disappointed of some of the statements. I thought thought NeoGaf stood for something else. People attacking him for writing a article in 2012 about criticizing the industry for self-censorship. There has been so many people who have fought against us and tried to censure video games inside and outside of the industry. And now some of us trying to portrait Colin as bad person for trying to debate this. It's okay to be provocative but using a opportunity like this against one of us is ugly. As a reminder he is a part of or community.

There's no one trying to portray Colin as a bad person, It's how he's protraying himself. The only one that is at blame is for what happened is Colin himself.

For all the things that Colin Moriarty claims he is, and all the defenders, moderates and supporters who claim similarly, I've yet to see something that supports this narrative of being in support of oppressed people. His actions speak louder than whatever things he claim to support.
