Maybe it's just me but I think marketing it as a beast handheld for $300 + $70 pro controller/$80 joycons is worse.
Colin is a cynic, but actually well thought out on this. Nintendo will just always stay oldschool. This is a better analysis IMO. I understand Colin's frustrations, but I think it's a bit premature and not thinking everything through.
More and more I think about it they should have just offered you a $200 mobile only option and a $300 bundle with the dock.
What facts did he get wrong?
Switch hardware seems good
launch line up is abysmal
too many ports
X1 and PS4 launch line ups were actually good, despite spin
3rd party support is critical to hardware success
EA announcing only Fifa is bad
hand waves Project Octopath Traveler
thinks Skyrim isn't the special edition (which is incorrect, I believe)
$70 Pro Controller is stupid
$80 Joycon set is stupid
$90 for a dock is stupid
online services are shit
people still care about achievements/trophies
Muppet is the apt form he has chosen there.
I was done with the video after the muppet got excited about unknown people presenting at the conference, USB-C, and capacitive touch screens.
Talk about grasping at straws.
This is exactly why people like myself were super bummed when we found out the Switch (contrary to every executive quote before its reveal) turned out to be a true hybrid and not just a family of devices using the same OS.More and more I think about it they should have just offered you a $200 mobile only option and a $300 bundle with the dock.
Ehhh... not really...
I have a super PC, PS4 and plan on getting the Switch, am critical of Nintendo and what Arlo pointed out is BIG for Nintendo, ANY kind of transperency from them is good. Or would you rather have Reggie as your mediator to what the company is doing everytime you tune in to their goings on?
This dude just ruined muppets for me
I would rather have western dev support than "new faces" telling me about the 5 games they're gonna have for launch.
The only problem for me is how they will handle online and the pricing of online.
I came to terms with the pricepoint when I sat and thought on it.
I think they would be better off marketing it as a beast handheld that can also output to a TV rather than a console that is handheld. That saves it from being compared truly to PS4 and Xbox and more compared to 3DS(which it is a big jump up from).
He said best of luck to the guy. What more do you want?
He just started doing it like a month ago. How do you think you get better? lol
Some people have it and and some don't. I gave my opinion on his delivery. That's it. I've got nothing against the guy. Maybe he'll get better, maybe not. Currently, I think he sounds amateur and robotic. I'm not sure why some of you are trying to make excuses for him or act like I'm being a dick for having an opinion. I don't really care if he's new at it or who he's trying to be like.
Ya fuck improvement, if your first attempt isn't perfect you just don't "have it".
I responded to your opinion. If you don't like it perhaps a message board isn't for you.
For him to have realistic expectations for someone new to this kind of thing? Saying "best of luck" has nothing to do with anything lol.
Finally someone with the courage to complain about Nintendo on the internet. What a unique, interesting and brave soul. *YAWN*
The worst thing is these blowhards that are all captain bring down on their videos or in their articles but then don't go hard at Nintendo when they have interviews with them.
The topic is Colin's opinion so why shouldn't people talk about him?Edit: It's also really annoying that people are just talking about Colin instead of the actual topic if the video which brought up A LOT of really good points, was well worded, and seems like a perfect foundation to start a really good discussion about the Switch
You tried to downplay my opinion because apparently, I can't have one since he's gotta do more vids to get better. It's not my job to worry about the whether or not he needs to do more stuff of these to get better. Currently I think it sounds amateurish and you're over here telling me a story about how needs practice to get better. Yeah. No shit people get better at things with practice. As it stands now, it sounds like it sounds and how much practice he may or may not need to improve doesn't mean a thing to me.
Also, I'm perfectly fine on this message board and differing opinions. I don't try to make snarky statements about how they need practice to get better or tell them what board they need to be on. I'm not trying to convince anyone who thinks it sounds good that they're wrong. Get over yourself.
You don't get to tell people what expectations they're allowed to have.
The topic is Colin's opinion so why shouldn't people talk about him?
You're comparing him to his inspiration when he just starts. That's ... uhh ... pretty dumb. But sure I'll "get over myself" lol.
I couldn't stand listening to this guy after a few months of kinda of funny. This was the first thing I have listened to him in over a half a year, about few minutes in I clearly remembered why.
I feel exactly how Colin feels. Like I'm crying because I love Nintendo but at the same time wanting the switch feels like I want to fuck myself and just like with the Wii U I'll just get all distressed about it.
People just get testy when others criticize their favorite personality I guess.
People just get testy when others criticize their favorite personality I guess.
Happens all the time in Angry Joe threads. Maybe Colin threads are the new Angry threads.
Edit: Why doesn't Arlo have his own thread btw?
Seriously. Hell, with a title called "Colin was Right", I'd say he is aware of the criticism and invites it.The topic is Colin's opinion so why shouldn't people talk about him?
I get why he made this video as it's going to get him a lot of views. The funny thing is that he made this video without ever touching the system. Yes there are a lot of things that Nintendo fucked up at launch and the launch library is not as good as it should be. But people don't buy consoles based on its launch library. Early adopters take a risk because of the potential of the system.
Nintendo has already showed that the potential of this system is amazing. I can take some cool ass Nintendo games and play them anywhere. Plus, unlike Sony, I know more games are coming even if the system doesn't do well. The same can't be said for the PSVR or PSVITA.
I didn't buy a PS4 at launch because of its launch library. I bought it because of its potential. There were a ton of games on PS4 at launch, but I only ended up playing Resogun the most. And I could have played that "new" Call Of Duty, Assassins Creed, and the other ports on the PS3, but they ran better on PS4. It took awhile before the PS4 library starting gaining momentum. Just like it's going to take on the Switch.
There was nothing even close to Zelda. Yes, it is one game and you can play it on the Wii U. But can you play it on the toilet, on the plane, or wherever the f--- you want? That's pretty f'ing amazing. The selling point here isn't the launch library, it's the fact that you can take Nintendo games on the go.
And how many people actually have a Wii U? Pretty much nobody so the point is moot. Even Colin doesn't have a Wii U. The fact is if you want to play what is shaping up to be one of the best Zelda games ever, you have to own a Switch. And if you are a "core" gamer, you are going to want to play it somehow. And people who say they are going to play it on the Wii U are acting like its Nintendo's last great game. It's not. If you are going to want to play more great games like Zelda, you are going to have to get a Switch. Period.
Nintendo showed us a fucking cool ass Zelda game and Mario game. These are game of the year contenders not just ordinary games. The changes in these games have shown Nintendo is indeed listening to core gamers and I'm excited what other franchises they are going to overhaul.
The Switch already has the best Mario Kart game ever made, potentially the best Mario game, potentially the best Zelda game. Even if these games don't live up to the immensely high expectations at least Nintendo is trying something new with them.
In its first year Nintendo is giving us Zelda, Mario, Mario Kart, Snipperclips, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Splatoon 2, and Arms. That's not great but it decent for a console's first year. I would argue that is much stronger than Sony's first year even with 3rd party support.
It is clear that 3rd party support right now is not that great, but do you really expect 3rd party to be there in day one after the Wii U?
Nintendo is making an effort. Skyrim, Fifa, Sonic Mania, NBA 2k18, Fast Neo Racing, Dragon Quest , No More Heroes, Puyo Puyo Tetris, Rime, Super Bomberman R, Project Octopath Traveler, and Minecraft are coming. If the Switch does well, I'm sure 3rd party will open up a bigger catalog of games.
Also, Colin seems to just throw out false speculation to make his argument that Switch can't support 3rd party games. Given the fact that he gets paid to do what he does, he could have at least taken the time to research his wild claims instead of spewing out misinformation. Skyrim doesn't look like its based of the 5 year old version. Peter Moore already confirmed that Fifa is not based off a PS3 port.

From a developer standpoint, the fact that the Unreal Engine will run on the Switch means that it is much more powerful than the Wii U. Sure it's not as powerful as the PS4 an Xbox One, but you can't take those consoles on the go.
Also, I don't understand the argument that the peripherals cost so much. Unless Colin is getting his stuff for free, they have always been. I bought an extra dual shock 4 at $60 dollars at launch. My additional wireless Xbox One Controller was also $60.
Right now the online doesn't sound promising. The fact that you have to use your phone is pretty stupid. I don't think it is fair to complain now. When Nintendo formally announces all of the features, then we can complain. RIght now everything is based on hearsay and not a lot of information. One positive thing is Nintendo has said that Virtual Console purchases are going to be tied to our Nintendo account. That's a start.
I believe that the Nintendo Swtich is going to be great and Nintendo could have done a better job with its presentation. How you present something matters. They should have started with Zelda and ended with Mario and skipped the gimmicky stuff.
Someone said that's who he's trying to be like in a reply to me. I don't think he sounds anything like the guy and said so. I didn't originally bring the other guy up. You're way too invested in the whole thing. Telling me what expectations I should have, how I should just be cool because the guy needs more practice. You sound crazy...
You'd think I called the guy a scumbag or said he shouldn't produce anymore vids. Anyhow, I've wasted way too much time on your rubbish. Had you just said you don't agree and think he'll get better with time, we'd both have saved some time. Anyhow, you have a nice day.
Never seen this thing before but in general I think more information should be delivered by Muppet.
??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Could not be more wrong about that dude.
I think you totally misunderstood the whole point of the video... at no point does he say do as I say, not how you want. He's always been all about the free market. He's illustrating points to where they are going to fail on because as he's mentioned countless times, he wants them to succeed.
