College Football 2017 Offseason: We're Not a Football School Anyway

I think the state of Florida has higher ranked recruits than Texas this go-around. That helps Miami's cause. A quick look at 247 shows the highest ranked recruit in Texas is ranked #13 overall. The state of Florida has 3 recruits ranked higher than that.
Florida has been extremely hot on the recruiting trail recently, especially on the offensive side of the ball with Corral, Copeland, Chase, Pitts and a few more in the pipeline.

Look, we all know that Duke has a superior football program to UNC and NC State. It is historically, the top football program in North Carolina. Coach Cutcliffe is an amazing head coach who is a Duke institution.

Excellent post, Sir Pops-a-lot. I might add as a reminder, there has been ONE TIME in the history of the prestigious Rose Bowl that it was played anywhere other than southern California. That one time was at Duke's Wallace Wade Stadium. In fact, there are many who say that this single game is actually the source of all of the Rose Bowl's prestige.

This has to be true.

Draxal - Are you following this Nick Suriano wrestling situation?

What are your thoughts on the matter? Was Cael Sanderson right not to give him the waiver to come to Rutgers?

I don't know.

LIke I would be absolutely livid if Ashnault went to PSU and we gave them a waiver. But apparently, in non big 2 sports, you're supposed to give the waivers as a courtesy.

I do think this makes PSU look scared, when they shouldn't be. They're the dominant wrestling school in the country right now.

Any Last Chance U fans in here? I've been watching season 1 today, and Coach Buddy just comes across as a huge asshole to me.

His assistant coaches all seem like great coaches though.
And it gets worse, fyi

Suspended? Oh you sweet summer child.
He's not? Good for Bama then.

I'm aware. I have already resigned to the fact we won't be catching tOSU. I want us to catch Miami for that second spot

Golden Domers are chickenshit!!
I don't know what Bateman was promised, but Barnett was the starter in the USC game, he just shat the bed and looked scared and slow with any action he saw. He had the job by a slim margin and didn't perform, so boo hoo hoo. If Hurts hadnt played well either, Blake would have had another shot, but I think the season's results speak for themselves.

That said, Hurts is our only non true freshman qb (scholarship), so Saban is going to have to reap the rewards of being unable to keep Barnett and Bateman happy.

Thanks for Chattfield. He's an important recruit to us for many reasons

I know you guys think there are better options for you
I mean.. they're are?

He should be solid. But if it came down to Parsons or Oweh.. then yeah I'll take one or hopefully both.

Edit- Kamryn Babb was injured apparently.. that sucks

"There are guys who have no business being in school, but they're here because this is the path to the NFL. There's no other way. Then there's the other side that says raise the SAT eligibility requirements. OK, raise the SAT requirement at Alabama and see what kind of team they have. You lose athletes and then the product on the field suffers."

Brutally honest.

That top 25 game list is incredible. I hope we get a three peat of Clemson/Alabama this year in the title game. Those last two games have been so incredible.

Hey guys.

Brutally honest.

He's got a point, but I still found this response hilarious.

Ehhhh, what Saban and Kiffin did in the USC game was clearly premeditated. Blake got a mediocre couple of series; then Jalen entered the game and turned over the rock his first snap and went 3 and out the next series. Kept going back out there, though. Not exactly a great example of Saban giving the snaps to the better performer in-game. I think I followed Alabama closer last fall than I ever have because Jalen intrigued me in the spring. He won the job during fall camp. Saban's pretty much said as much himself after the fact.

That said, I don't feel sorry for Blake or Cooper. By all accounts, Blake was a head case who showed occasional flashes, Cooper was consistently mediocre, and Jalen was the only QB moving the offense without making many mistakes. And the team loved the hell outta him. Easy decision, especially given how the season played out. Blake looked better in the limited time he got after Jalen's coming out party, and I hope for his sake that that carries over at ASU. He's clearly talented.

He's not? Good for Bama then.

Yeah. I question some of Saban's discipline decisions, but I think he made the right call here. Da'Shawn didn't drive drunk. Decided to sleep it off in his car, but as some people may not be aware, you don't have to actually drive to get a DUI. It'll probably get plead down to PI.

Yeah, not giving a shit about a guy who bails after 4 games says about "communication"

Nor much about a guy who literally said he checked out after the 1st game. Guess Bama's fortunate a stressful holder situation never arised, because the holder stated he "didn't give a shit."

Mug, your twitter link is broken.

Guys, when do we tell Mugiwara that he has been reassigned to Vanderbilt?

Pshhhhhh

I do appreciate that Cooper at least stuck around for us through the natty, whatever he had going on in his head. Can't blame him for losing the job and thinking "yeah, I'm out after this season".

I hate Blake cut out the way he did, but again, I get it. This is a business (albeit one where the employees aren't paid, but that's another discussion).

And dammit, now I can't find the original tweet. Ahh well.

I have no idea what happened behind closed doors, but the way Saban talked about the kid to the press was incredibly dickish. However, I'm sure bama fans will tell me why he was justified in doing so.

Nah, I'm with you. He'd already left. He's a kid trying to maximize his potential for the next level. Say you wish him well and leave it at that.

It was weird because he's handled stuff like that better in the past. Kendall Sheffield's sudden transfer only elicited a "I think he's a good kid and I hope he changes his mind" from the man. I think he took exception to doing it midseason, but still.

Saban was justified in doing so because fuck you.

Barnett's issue that he was told he was the starter and Hurts was only being used for specific plays. Then the game happened and he was out after 2 series. Now whether or not that was premeditated by Saban or not we have no idea, but Barnett thought it was.

Bateman is a classic case of an over abundance of riches and one guy realizing he lost out. Happens at every blue blood.

The only team with multiple 5 star QBs that didn't get butthurt and leave was Ohio State 3 years ago with JT Barret, Braxton Miller, and Don't Play School Cardale Jones. Urban knows how to say the right things to keep his backups on board.

Feels different considering injuries played a part, and Braxton was such a dynamic athlete that he was able to produce in other ways.

Still think Cardale should've cut and run after that title run. He was third string for a reason.

It's strange how a Vanderbilt fan knows a lot about Ohio State.

psssst, none of them were 5 stars, in fact 1 was a 3 star!

This.. I think the two of them knew that Braxton being hurt and possibly switching made it an easier sell.

Cardale had actually beaten JT for the number 2 spot before Braxton got hurt and then the coaches reset the competition to decide who was starting and then JT won. Before the season, Cardale was debating on transferring before Herman got a hold of him and convinced him to stick it out.

Obviously, we're glad he did.
