Nope, not picking up House of Shit #4. I'm still trying to rid my mouth of the bad taste left by #3. There sure are a lot of good Marvel books out this week, though.

God damn, thats alot of books for me. After Action Comics, I need to read Adventures of Superman to see if the ending is really true. Looking at my list, I'm such a whore for company wide crossovers. But I can't help it, I got to know whats happening or I'm not content.

Oh and just for the hell of it, I'll risk embarassment and check this out in the store if I see it.

ANAL INTRUDERS FROM URANUS #1 (A) (O/A)

Never say I didn't take one for the team!

Hmm... week #2 for me.. Well, considering I havent read anything and can choose from a infinite backlog, anyone have any suggestions for what's been the most amazing stuff of '05? Think what I'll do is pick a few more Seven Soldiers comics up, grab 1-7 of Ultimates 2, and add any suggestions that sound good into the mix. Gonna take a thorough look at some art and stories too of various stuff. Make take a chance or two on good vibe.

If you have the money, I'd pick up the first Astonishing X-Men trade, "Gifted," then pick up Astonishing X-Men #7-11. It's really, really good.

Astonishing Ex Daredevil Machina! EEP! Looks like a solid week. I've actually been enjoying this last Daredevil arc despite the total lack of DD himself.

I think it's
Loki, posing as somebody else, perhaps Fury. That way, after he convinces Hank to join him, Hank will end up being the only Ultimate who actually commits treason. And paralleling some of 616 Hank's history as pariah as well.

I do wanna see what happens (sooner or later) with "Vision" and "Ultron."

Spoilers (verify?) of Adventures of Superman #642 from the DC Boards:

More spoilers...

The battles with Brainiac, Darkseid and Ruin were actually Superman attacking Batman in the Watchtower. The mysterious figure that keeps interrupting is Wonder Woman. She saves Bruce by engaging Kal in battle. Kal tries to kill Bruce with a blast of heat vision, but Diana deflects it. She then ties her lasso around his neck, but the lasso cannot free Kal of Max's control. Superman, in an attempt to free himself of Diana's grasp, punches two holes in the Watchtower hull so that Diana has to decide whether to save Bruce and repair the tower or combat Kal. Kal escapes. This is all captured by the JLA surveillance systems that J'Onn retrieves.

J'Onn tells Diana that he needs her help to enter Kal's mind to determine what the origin of the mind control is (the implication is that her truth powers make it easier to discern fact from fiction). They discover that Max is doing it. None of the JLA (John Stewart, Black Canary, Wally and Hawkman) wants to believe it. They ask if Diana's healing ray (which she has been using on Bruce), J'Onn's telepathy or Zatanna's magic can help. J'Onn says that Kal's mind has been "fundamentally subverted" and that his telepathy cannot reverse the damage without creating even more damage. The healing ray only works on the body, not the mind and the League does NOT want to use Zatanna (for obvious reasons).

Bruce awakens and Diana carries him back to the Batcave, via teleporter. Kal then wigs out and attacks the League. He tosses J'Onn into the teleporter and J'Onn is trapped in a perpetual teleporter loop. He goes after Flash, but Flash is too fast. John traps Kal in an energy construct. Kal waits until all members of the League are in position and then, with all his might, he hits the construct and shatters it. The force of the punch is so great that it rips a hole in the Tower. GL and Hawkman asphyxiate and are out cold. Flash rounds up oxygen masks for him and Dinah. Kal escapes.

Diana returns. Flash said Kal waited until she left and then attacked them. Diana speeds down to Kal's location at Max's lair. She encounters Max and asks where Kal is. Kal puts a move on her from behind and forces her to kneel before Max. Then, to be continued next issue.

So not the end!
Damnit! I want to see this, but I've gotta hold off until the weekend to go to the shop. :(

Yup, that's pretty much how it plays out.

I'm still reading Lapham's ongoing story in Detective, but I don't know about it.
Defenders
Adventures of Superman
Jekyll & Hyde
Birds of Prey
JSA Classified (damn that cover is sweet)
House of M (come on nobody else is reading this still?)

Jesus fuck - I just dropped $5.99 on *A* comic book. I'm a fucking sucker. >:|

It's that new book by Brian Stelfreeze and Jason Pearson, so it's worth it; since those guys rarely get work off of covers. I just hope this isn't a long running series with such a hefty fuckin' price. >:|

Also picked up an issue of Invincible and some Marvel thing with Black Cat from the 50¢ bin. :X

I have been off the grid for some time now. Is there any Web site that lists, in advance, everything that's coming out for a given week?

Thanks in advance.

Definately pick up some more of the Seven Soldiers titles - that's looking to be the superhero highlight of the year. Again, I'd recommend some other recent Grant Morrison minis such as We3 (available as a trade collection) or Vinamarama (3 issue mini, issue 3 came out recently).

I also second Nomo's recommendation of the first Astonishing X-Men trade, which was damned entertaining all around. Other trade recommendations:

walkingdead.jpg

The Walking Dead Vol. 1: Days Gone Bye - There's a fair number of zombie comics out there right now, but this one's the best of the lot by far. Solid writing (with heavy emphasis on characterization), excellent art, and an ongoing series with plenty of twists, turns, and extrapolations of life in post-zombie America. The first volume is a steal, collecting the first six issues of the comic for ten bucks.

Ex Machina Vol. 1: The First Hundred Days - What if the mayor of New York City was a superhero...in a world without superheroes? When Mitchell Hundred obtains his powers he tries to serve his beloved city by putting on a costume, until he decides that he'd be better able to serve the city as mayor. I won't go into details, but rest assured the results are fantastic, blending current politics with a touch of the fantastic. This volume collects the first five issues for a mere ten bucks; it's not quite as much of a steal as The Walking Dead, but this is still damn fine reading for a bargin price.

As for what I'm pulling this week:

Birds of Prey #84
Ex Machina #13
Astonishing X-Men #11
Ultimate Spider-Man #80
Ultimates Vol. 2 #7

Not too shabby!

Wonder Woman is going to
kill Maxwell Lord to save Superman from his mind-controlling influence,
thus creating the rift between DC's "holy trinity." They've telegraphed it so obviously, it's hard not to come to that conclusion.

And I can't wait to read more about the incredible adventures of the GLX, Wisconsin's premiere mutant superhero team! :D

Wonder Woman #219 SPOILERS from the DC Boards:

Diana slashes Superman's throat with her tiara. She demands Max tell her how to release Supes from his control, to which he replies that the only way to do that is to kill him. So she snaps his neck.

Y'know, I thought Max would be around for Infinite Crisis, but I was wrong. His influence will be around for a while though (see Omac #4).
Jesus.

you know, I thought the first two issues of sacrifice were poorly paced and confusingly written. but I enjoyed the premise and stuck with it. BOY AM I GLAD I DID!!!

Adventures of Superman finally brought the concept to fruition and was an absolute pleasure to read. I love how
Max is pushing Superman along now and Superman thinks he is doing the right thing. He knows he's fighting the Justice League but he thinks he's doing it to protect them. BRILLIANT!!

needless to say, if the story sounds interesting, get to your local shop and buy the books. DC just announced that parts 1 and two sold out, and part one has been gone in my area since last week, and I imagine two will be missing from the shelves this week already.

Only one I could get was the Adventures of Superman issue.
