Written by Geoff Johns; Art and cover by Carlos Pacheco and Jesus Merino

Strap in and hang on as one of DC's greatest icons, Hal Jordan returns to the forefront of the DCU in a new monthly series by red-hot writer Geoff Johns (TEEN TITANS, THE FLASH) and stunning art by Carlos Pacheco & Jesus Merino (SUPERMAN/BATMAN)! GREEN LANTERN challenges your imagination and leaves you breathless as you witness the adventures of one of the greatest heroes in the DCU. From the runways at Edwards Air Force Base to the darkest corner of Space Sector 2814, the Green Lantern will proudly shine his light!

This special 40-page debut issue kicks off the 3-part tale "No Fear." Spinning out of the pages of GREEN LANTERN: REBIRTH, Hal Jordan returns to the DCU as the Emerald Warrior, ready to reclaim his life and the light of the Green Lantern. But the forces of darkness have already begun to rise, looking to claim the power of the Green Lantern for themselves!

This week, I'll be getting:

BATMAN #640
FLASH #222
GREEN LANTERN #1
JLA #114
OMAC PROJECT #2 (OF 6)
SLEEPER SEASON TWO #12 (OF 12)
CAPTAIN AMERICA #6
ULTIMATES 2 #6

Captain America #6 is my last issue, unless things shape up pretty fast. If the Winter Soldier ends up being
Bucky
, I'm flushing Captain America #1-5 down the toilet. You can do better than this, Brubaker!

Point of interest: Sleeper is almost coming to a close after one very good season, and another pretty lukewarm season. Season Two has been a endless "blah blah blah, whine whine whine" drag so far, so I'm hoping it ends on a high note. #11 was probably the only stand-out issue of the entire season.

And I usually don't condone this type of behavior for overhyped Marvel mini-series', but word of warning: RESERVE YOUR COPIES OF HOUSE OF M #1 NOW. House of M #1 is already sold out at Marvel, so don't expect to find it in shops on June 2nd. If OMAC Project was any indication, fans are actually rushing to the shops to pick up these hot books. There's a good chance that House of M will be total garbage, but at lease you'll then be able to resell your copy for $25 on eBay!

DC SPECIAL THE RETURN OF DONNA TROY #1
UNCLE SCROOGE #342
WALT DISNEYS COMICS & STORIES #657

totally unrelated, but what did you guys think of the Stan Lee DC comics thing? where he "reimagined" Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and a few others? I see them from time to time but I've never had a chance to actually look at them. How are they, story/art-wise?

The art is generally good, but the storylines are diabolically bad.

This week is dead quiet:

Sleeper Season Two #12 (of 12)
Runaways #4
Ultimates Vol. 2 #6

I've been enjoying Sleeper a lot more than Nomo, but I'm not exactly tearing my hair out at the roots to see it go. It was good, it's wrapping up, good enough. If Brubaker makes more I'll buy it, but if this is where it ends we should have a perfectly decent stoping place. Runaways has been excellent, Ultimates has been...well, at least it looks nice. It's fun eye candy, but that's about it.

Meanwhile, here's what came out last week that I still need to pick up from the shop:

Birds of Prey #52
Ex Machina #11
Seven Soldiers: Guardian #2
New Thunderbolts #8
Ultimate X-Men #59

Solid superheroics, inspired madness from Grant Morrison, and the consistently excellent Ex Machina. All in all, that's a fairly modest pile of comics for two weeks worth at a go. Which means the next two weeks will be completely insane.

Finally, I look forward to ignoring both DC and Marvel's big event comics for the next few months. Whee!

APR050005 PREVIEWS VOL XV #6 $PI
FEB050057 KING OF WOLVES TP (MR) $12.95*
MAR050364 BATMAN #640 $2.25
MAR050403 GREEN LANTERN #1 $3.50**
MAR050415 OMAC PROJECT #2 (OF 6) $2.50***

* Hopefully this isn't another waste of money like Baron Gong Battle. I can't afford it right now...

** Gotta be worth something someday, right? $$$

*** If I can actually get my hands on a copy, that is.

I haven't been to the shop in about three weeks either, so I'm sure there's a hefty backlog of titles waiting in my pull folder as well. My wallet will not be pleased, that's for sure.

My "getting back into comics but trying not to spend anywhere near what I used to spend" list is:

MAR050364 BATMAN #640 $2.25
MAR050403 GREEN LANTERN #1 $3.50
MAR050407 JLA #114 $2.25
MAR050415 OMAC PROJECT #2 (OF 6) $2.50
MAR051881 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #520 $2.25
FEB051901 CAPTAIN AMERICA #6 $2.99
MAR051871 FANTASTIC FOUR #527 $2.99
MAR051900 INCREDIBLE HULK #81 $2.99
MAR051913 RUNAWAYS #4 $2.99
MAR051878 ULTIMATES 2 #6 $2.99
MAR051927 X-MEN #170 $2.25

$30 before tax.. quite a bit better. would be better if I got my 20% off from my old shop, but until they can get their permit situation worked out they can't even get new books (bad move). :( oh well.

on a note of money.. it still kind of pisses me off that in japan I was paying $2 an issue for like 400 pages of Shonen Jump, and picked up a bunch of My HiME volumes for 500Y each, cover price... US comic publishers have to get those prices under control :(

Regarding Captain America #6:

It's Bucky. Flush Brubaker's run so far down to toilet. What happened to the Bru, man? His work hasn't been good since he signed that Marvel exclusive contract.

I'm trying to adhere to my new TPB-only policy, but it's just hard to ignore all these summer events. Even when you suspect they'll suck. Oh well.
